Were brought in by my cousin who is a PSU student and claimed this is the best authentic Chinese restaurant on campus. But as a Chinese I can say the overall favor is average at best. And don’t be too excited about the menu price which seems fair - portion is pretty small. I wish I took some pictures, but an example would be the cumin lamb 孜然羊肉which in most traditional way is just meat however here it I is really 50+% onions and cilantro. Four of us basically finished it with two tastings each.
The worst, however, is the steamed fish 清蒸鲈鱼 recommended by the waitress. They seemed friendly so I let my guard down and not checking the price ahead, but a mid size fish (branzino?) which I can get in bulk at Costco for $10 was charged for $58 and it was horrible. You can still taste earthiness in the meat. And the sauce is just plain soy sauce, just bitter and salty. It was really worse than my own cooking. Coming think of it, it is likely their sly pitch to out of town customers. They also recommended lamb chop. I’m glad I didn’t take the bait. It probably gonna cost $50+. At that price I might as well eat at fine dining, not a college town, mom and pop restaurant.
if you’re from out of tow, stay away. Don’t expect an authentic place in a rural college town. If you are PSU students stick with basics not fancy dishes. I’ve heard their lunch specials are OK and because you are a frequent customer they likely wouldn’t do any...
Read moreThis place always makes the best Chinese food in State College and probably of the entire Centre County. Fresh and delicious, with sauces that are seasoned perfectly. It keeps me coming back for another order.
Dining-in is a good experience, while ordering to-go or delivery can be frustrating when they're busy. Once I had to cancel a delivery that was taking over 2 hours, and another time with pick-up I had wait to in a crowded entryway for 40 minutes beyond when the order was supposed to be ready. Fortunately the cashier felt bad for the 40 minute wait and comp'ed me with a gift card (especially when an order after mine was packaged and brought to the counter 10 minutes before mine was ready).
Lesson learned: don't order from here on Friday nights. I saw up to 3 Grub Hub delivery drivers waiting for orders at one time. They need to pause with taking orders when they're 40 minutes behind on pick-ups.
I still can't bring myself to give them less than 5 stars because their food is absolutely top-notch. And while the service those couple times were slow, the hostess and cashiers were still friendly and polite, apologizing for...
Read moreThis was my first time eating here, and the food was SO GOOD. My friend and I got the House Spicy Chicken, the Braised Beef Noodle Soup, the DanDan Noodles, and as a food experiment, we also got the spicy Duck Tongue appetizer since neither of us had ever seen anything like that on a menu before. I'll admit, neither of us cared for the texture of the duck tongue. They have a really hard bone-like spine down the center, so that made them difficult to chew, but the sauce they were in was quite good. The other dishes were fantastic though. The House Spicy Chicken was something several other reviewers mentioned, and it was my favorite thing we ordered. The DanDan noodles were also quite good. I loved the tingly spice of the Szechuan pepper in that dish. Our waiter was also very sweet and super attentive. All the staff was very friendly. The portions were pretty big too. We ended up taking home a couple leftover containers because we couldn't eat it all. I would absolutely...
