Great food, genuinely. Authentic to the max, as someone who's been to Mexico several times there is no distinction apart from the fact that they use flour tortillas by default (which I generally prefer, personally), and I'm sure you can ask that they use corn instead if you'd like. HOWEVER, the prices are completely absurd. If they got knocked down by ~30%, I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. I'd be coming here all the time. Instead, I don't feel like I can justify coming here very often, despite how much I love the food. El Jefe's and Yallah Taco, while also expensive, are still a good bit cheaper, and open later daily.
It should be mentioned also that the menu can be deceiving. In the first place, for some items they only list their price with a medium soda. That can go upwards of $12 for an amount of food which would cost ~$8-9 elsewhere. They also don't tell you that to have Carne Asada in your taco adds an extra charge of $2.50, so for just 3 small tacos (the average grown man could probably eat 6+ before getting full, my appetite is generally on the lower side and they were not filling at all) and no drink I ended up paying $12.50, despite the menu indicating that 3 tacos costs $9. One would think that that price listing would include a choice of meat, and that it wouldn't cost extra to add meat to a very small taco, but whatever.
If the food weren't this good, I'd have gone with 2 stars. But it really is great. I've come back to this place a couple times despite how expensive it is due to that fact. Definitely the best Mexican food in downtown State College. Just not by nearly a wide enough margin to actually recommend to anyone over the aforementioned El Jefe's and Yallah Taco. Pita Cabana is also sublime and much more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've had much better. I've been to Mexico multiple times and these are half made tacos. The meat was made right and so were the corn tortillas but authentic tacos have salsa and/or guacamole on them and in Mexico they'll serve it with radishes on the side. I understand in Pennsylvania sometimes maybe avocados may not always be available but anyone can get access to salsa ingredients and cheese or even crema. At least do something to make the meal filling. Maybe the overhead is very high because I also noticed they don't even have burritos on the menu. Ok fine, add fries and/or rice to that burrito with a little carne asada and salsa or crema. This is what you would call a California burrito. If the rent of the shop is too much maybe perhaps create a menu that has something cheap and filling like say carne asada fries or something. If carne asada fries were on the menu I would have bought it over the little tacos. I paid $17 and some change for 4 tacos with only onions and cilantro on them and a drink. I felt like this meal was more of an appetizer than a meal. I don't know why everyone else in the restaurant was smiling š. I sure wasn't. I could've spent 17.00 on a nice filling pizza but bought half made taco snacks. My advice is: make a cheap, filling, tasty, Mexican meal that will fill the stomachs of these drunk college kids after a long night of drinking because that is your...
Ā Ā Ā Read more(SPRITE WAS THE BEST THING I GOT:D) I don't know if it's because the time I showed up, but the food was awful. Very greasy food. For a Mexican place there isn't much seasoning on the food that we could taste. I love Mexican rice, with steak or chicken. Not much choices on food. I don't know for 47.00 everyone I ate with (3 people) said the food they got was awful, cold, and greasy. We went to eat around 11ish pm. Felt like getting served food from earlier in the day to be honest. I even thought about asking for my $ back. That's how bad it was. I only ate not even 1/4 of my food. Other 2 people ate almost 1/2 of there food. I also asked if we could sit down and order it , the guy behind the counter said "you can do that but just order here". Very Very Very disappointed in wasting money on food. 1 thing I hate is wasting money on food that is suppose to be good for its...
