First time of coming in, will definitely be the last.
Let me start off by saying that they were INCREDIBLY busy and I tried to have a little grace, but after our entire visit being 3 hours for very subpar food, I just can’t excuse it.
First things first, we came in and were told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. Not a big deal, we waited but it was more realistically an hour for us, with people being there before us definitely still waiting by the time we were called.
It is a big building, but it was super crowded in terms of seating. It felt like everyone was pretty close to each other. Not a huge deal, but if you prefer having space between tables, you may find this unpleasant. Our waiter was very nice and seemed informative.
Ordered the fried mushrooms, which were ok. Pretty much a plain vessel for ranch. If you like Hideaway fried mushrooms, you’d like these. Me and my boyfriend ordered milkshakes, I got a chocolate one and my boyfriend got a strawberry one. Both were very good, my only complaint was that mine at some sort of hard bits in it? I am assuming it was crust from the chocolate sauce but I am not sure.
This is where things started going downhill; We had ordered our shakes with our main meals, I ordered a burger and my partner, the pulled pork sandwich. Both of our meals took damn near a whole hour to get. Like I said, they were busy so I get it! But a table who ordered not shortly before us not only got their food basically 30 minutes before us, they had already left and sat a new group down before we had even paid our ticket. The wait times for a burger should not have been that long, let alone a pork sandwich that was probably already prepared for the day. Not only that, but a majority of the time the waiter was pretty much absent, which made me almost think he had forgotten us. At this point, we were both just ready to eat and leave. We did get informed that both of our meals were comped because of wait times per the manager, which was nice.
This is where I had really formed my opinion on this place; My cheddar and sweet pepper bacon burger was JUST ok. There was really not enough seasoning on it and I didn’t even get the mayo I requested, I ended up putting some of the BBQ sauce my boyfriend had gotten on my burger. My burger was just incredibly greasy, but since I was starving at this point, I just ate it. My boyfriend’s pull pork sandwich was alright, the pulled pork was a little dry in my opinion. His mac and cheese, however, was terrible. Incredibly mushy and the cheese sauce honestly tasted kind of off. For a $1+ surcharge, had we actually had to pay, I would have been pretty upset with what we had got. My fries were really dark, but also did kind of taste like it was fried in old oil. Overall, for the long time that we had waited, this food was a major disappointment. Not only that, but as I am typing this, I have a very upset stomach and have thrown up a couple of times.
At this point, we were both just so irritated by the whole experience that we had and were ready to leave. I just want to emphasize, I know it was a very busy afternoon for them, but it took probably close to 30 mins to not only get our ticket but then rang up for our discounted appetizers and shakes.
This being our first impression has left a bad taste in my mouth. Our server basically ignoring us, our food being mediocre, and our total time being there going up to 3 hours really solidifies that this place is not worth it at all. I am assuming this is more for those with nostalgia and tourists, but even still? the food is a rip off. I hope that the kitchen and staff in general get more attention than the marketing of their...
Read moreNeat iconic place to visit due to the history and hype but not so much a place to visit for their food. The Bacon Cheese Fries were made with overcooked soggy heavily greasy thick potato fries that were coated in yummy cheese as soon as they came out the fry grease and had some great tasting bacon sprinkled on top. So for about $10.69 the cheese and bacon were pilled off and were salvageable. The Joe's House Salad was 90% spinach but was labeled mixed greens and my wife doesn't like spinach so all she was able to eat were the toppings. The Messy Pig which is a pulled pork sandwich was pretty good and was loaded with meat and paired well with their BBQ sauce. There is an option for an additional dollar to add coleslaw but the sandwich comes with one side and coleslaw happens to be a side. So instead of paying an extra dollar my side was coleslaw and boy am I glad I didn't have it put on my sandwich because the coleslaw was disgusting and had a strong soured milk type taste that lingered on my tongue for a minute or two. Service was horrible to non-existent at times, the waiter never gave us silverware even when we asked twice for silverware. We already had our entrée and had to wave down a different waiter enable to get our only drink refills and silverware. My wife enjoyed the atmosphere with the loud music playing from the speaker directly above my chair. She also enjoyed people watching the massive number of college kids pouring in and sitting at the bar or going upstairs. It made it entertaining while passing the time while waiting for our food and check to come. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean and quiet considering the number of college kids present. We appreciated that the souvenir and clothing store were connected directly to the restaurant so that we didn't have to go outside. We also appreciated the various colored drinking cups that we were able to keep and FYI the white cup with barely visible letters are actually color changing letters, and we were lucky enough to receive one this visit. Lastly there is a time capsule plague directly near the front outside entrance that is scheduled to be opened next year in 2025. It will have been buried for 33 years when it is finally opened during their 50th year...
Read moreProbably the worst visit I've had here. When we walked in the lady at the hostess station had her feet propped up and she handed the menus to someone who in turn handed them to the person on the other side of the hostess. When we sat down the waitress asked for our drinks and my daughter asked for a strawberry lemonade (which she does everytime we go here) and the waitress stated I can't do strawberry lemonade, in a condescending tone. We both ordered a salad and my daughter ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered a cowboy classic. After a time we started to wonder why our salads were taking so long. Finally our food was brought out, minus the fries. When my daughter asked about the fries the waitress got hateful and started blaming it on us that we didn't get any fries saying we should have told her that we wanted fries. From our point of view we ordered a salad and a meal, never once did we say we wanted to substitute a salad for fries. She finally brought out the fries and when I got the ticket she charged me extra for the fries plus the upcharge for the salad, which ended up costing me more. After we left I told my daughter I should have talked to a manager, but unfortunately now days that doesn't seem to help. Next time I guess we'll just ask for a different waitress if we get her again.
Was there today and the service was better, but the unfortunate thing is that no one from management reached out to us about the above incident. I don't know how to leave a separate review without erasing that one so I'm just adding on to that review because people need to know about that type of service. I will also leave the star ratings from the previous visit even though they were...
