Grannys Soul Food — Restaurant in Stockbridge

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Granny’s Soul Food, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. I ordered the turkey wing plate with fried okra and green beans, the fried chicken plate with three wings, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese, and another fried chicken plate with a breast and wing, accompanied by sweet corn and macaroni and cheese.

The fried chicken was outstanding. Each piece was incredibly moist and seasoned to perfection, from the crispy skin down to the bone. The turkey wing was equally impressive, falling off the bone and smothered in a delectable gravy. While I personally would have preferred a bit more spice, it was still an excellent dish. The macaroni and cheese was cheesy, well-seasoned, and incredibly satisfying. The collard greens were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of acidity, making for a delightful side.

The staff at Granny’s Soul Food were very friendly and took my order promptly. Despite the fried items being made to order, they came out in minimal time, which was impressive. The price is a real value considering the generous portions and great-tasting food. As a Caribbean-American, I might not be a soul food expert, but I certainly know flavorful food when I taste it. My daughter ordered the beef tips and rice. She said they were not her favorite but not bad. I tasted them and I liked them way better than my food. I got the bbq chicken. I was very disappointed that it was a leg quarter only. I prefer thighs only. I feel like an option would have been nice. Then the chicken was a little tough and the flavor just wasn’t great. Me and my daughter got Mac n cheese and collards. We both agreed the Mac n cheese is bland. She said the collards were ok. I feel like the collards were way too salty. Then the lady that checked us out kept asking what we were getting to drink and still got it wrong. I don’t know what she was thinking. There’s only tea and lemonade where she fixes it. The rest are bottles or cans. My daughter wanted tea and she asked her if she wanted lemonade. My daughter said no sweet tea. Then she fixed her a lemonade. The food was cooked to perfection. The BBQ was smoked and moist. The Turkey necks were awesome as well. The sides, collard greens, Mac n cheese and the potatoes salad were delicious. They have just made me a permanent customer. The best soul food I have had since being in Georgia. I grew up on soul food and know good food when I taste it. The food was not as tasty as my first visit. The collard greens had to have come out of a can and the Mac n cheese was dry and had no flavor to it.
