I went for late lunch and stood, waiting 4-5 minutes at the front, waiting room be sat, while 2 bartenders and a 3rd man cleared at the bar, with only 3 people sitting at the bar and maybe 10 people in the entire restaurant. At least 2 of the people at the bar looked at me and did nothing. The thicker lady looked focused in the one guy sitting at the bar, chatting. The muscular man came out to the bar twice, looked at me and said nothing. A group of 4 people came in behind me and we waited a few more moments before the lady at the bar finally came over. Service was slow, friendly early on, then sheisty. The egg rolls took way too long and we're lukewarm, bland and slimy. I took a bite out of one (total of 4), and set it down, waiting foe waitress to come back so I could return ot. It was 7-8 minutes before she returned. I respectfully said I wanted to return it because it was slimy and lukewarm. She took it. I expected it removed from my bill because I'd only eaten half of one of the four. I ordered VIP sushi, which was tiny. Then ordered crayfish roll... They don't seem to care about presentation and flavor, as it was not flavorful and the last sushi roll was a tiny afterthought. (Photo wouldn't upload). Here comes the shady part...Time for the check and my waitress has the little card machine in her hand and TELLS me it's $34. I never see my check. I give her my card and she inserts, shows it to me for me to add a tip, (but didn't show me my original bill). I did not put a tip. She said a farewell pleasantly and I walked out. She did not give me a receipt so I went back in, to the bar and told her I never saw the bill nor a receipt, and why was the bill $34 when the egg rolls should have been taken off. She went to print receipt and a blonde lady with a tattooed neck asked if I was being helped. I figured she was manager because I saw her talking to waitress after I returned the egg rolls. I explained everything and she said they did a 50% discount of the egg rolls instead of removing it. I shared that I only ate half of one. She was professional and went and removed it and showed me the receipt with it removed. She made a friendly comment to.the effect of not allowing the situation to ruin my mindset on the place. Frankly, it was my first and last time eating there. The practice of charging me 50% of food i barely ate, not showing my bill nor giving me a receipt is shady as cab be and bad, unethical business. Overall the food was ok and service was mostly good. The music/vibe was the star. The disappointment came when we tried to use our rewards to redeem free rolls. Was told the manager would have to redeem at checkout. At checkout we we told they hadn’t been trained on the new system so unable to redeem the rewards. I’m sure the intention wasn’t bait and switch but that’s what felt like happened. We did get an apology but wish we were told they couldn’t in advance of the order being made.
I appreciate feedback received after the fact. I may give another shot but we will see… Their recovery made a big difference in this scenario. Thank you.
Previous review: Got JB roll and it was small but tasted decent. Wait time for our 3 rolls was on the ridiculous side of the spectrum but we gave an extra ten minutes before we left and they brought the rolls out. The presentation of the Beetle was very pretty. I didn't try but was told it was good. The third roll was a veggie roll and it was ok. My JB roll had bits of other rolls on the rice which leads me to believe that they didn't clean up after each roll. Total time in and out for three rolls and edamame was about an hour.
