You know when you enter the Stonington side of Mystic, and the confusion of navigating around a flagpole in the middle of an intersection is either setting in or subsiding? Right there near that cloud of confusion is the sign for Lighthouse Bakery. Not just a bakery, its a full blown cafe, family owned and operated. I have driven past that sign one hundred times, yesterday, my bride and I pulled in. First we were pleasantly surprised there is a bit of parking back there so you don't have park on the street. There is a sizable outdoor space to sit, and decent amount of indoor seating as well. The young men behind the counter were very attentive directing us to menus and alerting us to the pastries of the day. Then there is the menu, bigger than we thought and more than baked goods. Sandwiches, Wraps, Pancakes, French Toast, Salads, and all the coffee drinks. After some deliberation we ordered lattes (latti?), one with almond milk one with cow's milk, and breakfast sandwiches. We ordered the Big 55 and the Mystic Melt. First the latti, they were probably the best in Mystic proper. I will go to Lighthouse Bakery for my caffeinated needs whenever I am downtown, from now on. The sandwiches were delicious! Fresh ciabatta, delicious chipotle aioli, egg done to perfection. We will be visiting again soon! They have a running club too!! So skip the train station, get out of the throng of tourists on the Groton side of Mystic and get a tasty sandwich and some of that black liquid gold from Light...
Read moreA hidden bakery in the back part of the lot. Small selections of baked goods and drinks available, but it seems like they definitely make what they are good at. Less food waste and fresher food, so I am all in for that!
This place has probably one of the BEST tiramisu desserts I’ve had!!! We saw two fresh batches being made in front of us in the open kitchen concept, on a Saturday morning. It could probably use a little more coffee flavor. Otherwise it’d be PERFECT!
Their raspberry bars were very light and airy, with a shortbread cookie texture. Not over the top in sweetness and without the artificial flavoring.
We brought a fresh baguette too and it was made to perfection. My husband says it was like some of the fresh breads he’s had from Europe.
Unfortunately, the homemade cinnamon bun was very dry, and wasn’t rolled with enough cinnamon/sugar for flavor. As you can see in my photo, it almost looked like a sugar brioche. However, we did buy the last one so it was probably a fluke in the batch .
Otherwise, definitely give this place a visit it you are in town. They also serve a humble breakfast menu with coffee opts too. Available parking at the back. Great...
Read moreLighthouse Bakery is more than just a bakery, it’s the heart of the community. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the love and good vibes that go into everything. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff are genuine and welcoming. It feels like home in a way. The food is amazing. Every pastry, every loaf of bread, every cup of coffee just hits different! You can tell it’s not just about baking and food and coffee. It’s about creating an experience for the customers. The breakfast sandwiches are out of this world, my personal favorite “ The Big 55” it was delightful. I would eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner if I could. But what really sets Lighthouse Bakery apart is the man behind it. Kamal pours his heart and soul into this place, and it shows. He’s one of the most genuine, passionate people you’ll ever meet, and that energy 100% reflects what he’s doing with lighthouse. He truly cares about every customer that walks through the door. If every business owner had a Kamal, the world would be a better place. If you are in mystic you HAVE to stop by lighthouse and experience the...
