I enjoyed the service the 1st time even though the atmosphere was a lacking character. The tacos were so so and the drinks as you can expect. The server was great (pre-med student) can not remember here name. We tipped her well though. Spent about $150 between the 2 of us. This night was 3 plus stars.
The second and the last time that I will ever go was yesterday. The server Rachel was very kind. We ordered chips and salsa and couple of drinks. I always order a glass of water with a slice of lemon in a real glass. The server brought it a plastic cup. I asked for a glass she went back to get one but was told they are not allowed to server water in glass. She was sorry and said maybe I should talk to the manager. Okay, I said. Manager comes out ask what the problem is. I replied no problem my wife and I are out for a nice dinner and I prefer to have my water in glass but not a cup, not plastic. She told me it was against TABC rules to serve water and alcohol in the same glasses. I questioned this and even quickly researched on my phone to find out that there is not a TABC policy stating that you can not serve water in glass that is also used for alcohol. I shared this information with her and then she offered me a to go cup made out of paper. Wow that's classy... There was no talking to the manager about this. We just left and went to Pappasitos has the best meal best service best atmosphere, best drinks and Ice Cold water in a glass!
Perhaps Gringos does not properly wash their glassware. This may be the reason why I was denied a different drinking glass. They must have been concerned that I would notice they served me a glass of water that has beer in it still.
Here are the TABC Guidelines Public perception and liability: For businesses, serving water in a glass previously used for alcohol without proper washing presents a liability risk. A customer might be concerned that the water is tainted with alcohol, leading to a complaint or a lawsuit.
Virgin vs. alcoholic cocktails: Some bartenders have noted that TABC rules may suggest that even non-alcoholic cocktails should be served in different glassware from their alcoholic counterparts, though this may not be universally enforced.
In Texas, it is a common practice at bars and restaurants to use new, clean glassware for every serving, including water after an alcoholic drink. While there is no specific statute that directly prohibits a person from drinking water from an unwashed glass that previously held alcohol, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) regulations and general health codes make this an unacceptable practice in a...
Read moreFunny thing is, we live by a much closer Gringos but decided to go to this one instead to meet our friends for double date night. Upon arriving there was a 30 minute wait for a table, no biggie we showed up at like 7 on a Friday evening. We were in good company and we stood outside and talked until the table was ready. Upon being seated one of our party started cracking jokes with the hostess because, well, that’s what we do 😂. She played along and set the tone of the evening. Our “guardian Angel” greeted us very promptly and more jokes were cracked and we knew we had a good one. We didn’t yet know how good… we ordered drinks (me with my difficult margarita order subbing and adding the way I do). The drinks took a little while to come out but Angel checked on us consistently to make sure we were aware of the wait times and to make sure we were ok and to see if we needed anything. We ordered chips and queso and Angel kept the chips filled. We placed our order while still waiting for drinks to come out and he memorized everything and wrote nothing down. (Spoiler alert: the entire order was right). When we ordered the queso he was told I had an allergy to pork and he remembered so when we ordered dinner he knowledgeably let me know that the flour tortillas are made with pork lard. Like my goodness! Super impressed. Mind you he has a full section of customers and everyone seems to be happy and getting the same treatment! My friends and partner’s drinks come first. When my drink comes Angel explains that the bar made my drink wrong and he brought the one that was wrong incase we wanted to keep it. (They we’re both still good). Angel makes a joke “So are y’all ready to order” we all look confused and are like dang he was doing so good and then are promptly meet with someone carrying our order 😂 great joke! We loved it! Angel then brings us some of the best sauces we didn’t ask for or know about and we had a salsa mini tasting! It was just next level! Once our first round of drinks was done we opted for a second round and he suggested a tequila we had never had or heard of. Let me tell you something 🤤 yum!!! On top of all this he took an amazing group shot and I probably skipped over a few things because that’s part our experience and you just have to make your own 😂. All this to say Angel has gone down in history as one of the best experiences I have had at a restaurant EVER! I even told Angel I love you at least 3 times 😂. Angel should be training and running a Gringos because Angel is top shelf, A1,...
Read moreI like details so this will be long-ish (mostly for the owner and managers to see.)
Just got back from Sugar Land River Park Gringos 7/13/24. It’s 6:41pm. Party was 4, myself (mom) my husband and two daughters. (11 and 16).
Suggestion: Please tell your hostess to wash her hands in the bathroom for 30 seconds before returning to work. What I saw today was nasty. But she’s a hostess, so I didn’t say anything.
Rest of the restaurant:
I always have an amazing time at this Gringos. But today blew me away. The food was above and beyond delicious. I don’t know who’s A team was in the back cooking but they were on it this evening! The bar made me a watermelon margarita. It was with the basic taquilla and still they somehow made it taste top shelf. I had it on the rocks and it was the best margarita I’ve had in a LONG time.
The managers made frequent rounds making sure the tables were good and the wait staff didn’t need extra assistance. Everyone was on their game. It was what you’d expect from a 5 star restaurant!
All that was amazing but the person who prompted me to write this review was our writer Josh.
I use to be a Hooter girl and I’m now a school psychologist. I say this to say I know how to wait tables and I know how to watch people’s behaviors. Josh was so on it. Food was out fast and hot. Two bites two minutes, he’s rushing over asking how is everything tasting!? Constantly attentive, never let our drinks go dry, every time he came to the table he either was delivering or taking something out of the way. Many times he looked over at our table while waiting on another table to avoid disturbing us but still stayed attentive. He pre bused the table at the end. It was all of that and more. I have not had service this good in a long, LONG time.
I have gone to SEVERAL high end and wanna be high end “Instagramable” restaurants where I’m paying $85 a plate or a tab for just myself alone hits around $110.
The food and especially the service at those places are no where near as good as we had today at Gringos. Bravo and hats off to Mr. Joshua. I don’t know what you plan on doing moving forward in the future but if you can split your attention and wait on several different people’s wants and needs getting them right at the same time, and with a smile on face, take it from a former Hooter girl lol you’re going to make big things happen. 💵 Keep it up!
I’ll be requesting Josh next time I go to Gringos.
Adding pictures of my receipt just to prove I was there and Josh...
