Last night I ordered 2 combo platters over rice with extra meat. The bag was stapled shut upon pickup and I opened up the bag after I got home to discover they did not include the correct sauces. They gave me only orange sauce, order was supposed to have both white and orange sauce. Ok, this is kind of annoying but whatever, mistakes happen. I drive back to the restaurant and politely explain the white sauce that was missing, they apologized and give me the white sauce that should’ve been included. When I got back home for the 2nd time I unpacked the entire bag only to be extremely disappointed to see that they skimped very badly on the meat. AGAIN. Well, my fault I guess for not checking throughly enough the first time I opened it up. When I peeked in the bag the first time to discover the missing sauce, I glanced through the clear plastic top of the platter container and it appeared to contain the proper amount of meat. But unfortunately it seems that the napkins, utensils, orange sauce and “Gyro Republic” sticker on the top of the clear plastic lid were deceptively covering up enough of the lid to make it impossible to see how little meat was actually included with out taking the container out of the bag entirely and removing the lid.
Other gyro places never seem to have this issue with skimping on the meat. Gyro Hut and Gyro King both cover the rice completely with meat even when you order a normal amount, and EVEN MORE SO when you order and pay for extra. Gyro Republic used to be the same way but not anymore it seems. Not sure if it’s due to management trying to cut costs or if it’s inconsistent employee training. But either way, this is twice now where I’ve paid for extra meat and received a dish of mostly rice and lettuce with a very small amount of meat. Definitely not enough to constitute paying for “extra” let alone the normal amount of meat it should have. I’ll stick to Gyro Hut from now on unless this meat skimping problem is addressed...
Read moreI stopped in to grab some lunch before work to test the waters of this new place. Since most Greek street food places have either closed down or are deeper into Houston, I was eager to try it. I think the only downside is finding parking at the strip center it's located in. It's a notoriously busy place. But the inside looked great, very fresh and modern. I was greeted by the staff and proceeded to order. There's not a lot on the menu but that's probably for the best. It streamlines a lot of issues other restaurants have like indecisive people or having to cook billions of different ingredients.
I ordered a large rice bowl with mixed Gyro meat and the white sauce which I forget what the actual word is and how it's spelled. It also came with a side salad that you can top with a variety of things, but I got nervous and only ordered a topping or two. The lettuce in the salad was nice and fresh with a slight crisp crunch and already pre-shredded. Honestly, with just the white sauce and cucumber, it was pretty great.
The rice in the bowl actually has a great flavor and isn't too salty. I could probably eat it just by itself. The meat added in though is the icing on the cake, which is always my favorite part. All of it was nice and warm even when I got to my job and man did it taste great. And just for kicks, I ordered a side of falafel which was good too. Could use some white sauce or some salt, but good nonetheless.
All in all, I may have to stop by here at least once a week before work cause it could stuff me for about 10-15 dollars for what I consider quality food. Keep up the awesome work,...
Read moreEDIT: Came back the second time and honestly the experience was NOT as good. The bowl was not filled and they seemed stingy with the portions. The music was ridiculously loud so I had to ask them to turn it down since I could not properly head my friend when we were eating there. My mother also complained that her rice bowl was significantly low. Honestly I thought this was normal until I went to the newly opened GnB grill and I got a fully LOADED packed to the brim bowl for for a lower price. Ill be taking off 2 stars due to that. While it is true, Angel is friendly but both him and the other employee were not as generous compared to GnB grill in terms of value for money. What agitates me even more was that I paid for the large bowl during my second visit and still got less compared to the regular bowl at GnB. I doubt I will be returning here.
Amazing service. Angel provides very welcoming and friendly service. He is honest and upfront instead of some places that try to get you with small hidden charges. I appreciated this as honest businesses are the best. The bowls were delicious, both chicken and beef gyros taste lovely but it is clear the beef gyro meat is the specialty. The restaurant was in pristine cleanliness condition, the employees seem to take the mask and glove etiquette seriously. I also appreciate that it is a halal business and the prices are very reasonable and amazing portion sizes. All the veggies tasted tasty and fresh. This place was way better than Donor and Gyros that is located nearly across the...
