This is the ER from Hell! We took my mom here at 6:30 in the morning because she was complaining of chest pain. They got her in pretty quickly, so we thought we would have answers soon. WRONG!! They did an EKG and a CT scan and then just left us there to wait. The nurse came in to administer benadryl through an IV. We asked her what the benadryl was for, and she said SHE DIDN'T KNOW! She would go ask the doctor and tell us what he said. The nurse started an IV on my mom, and please see the attached picture of how much blood was left from her simply starting an IV. My mom told them she was hungry and asked if she could eat something. The nurse said she would find out. She came back and said that the doctor said it was ok for her to eat and she would bring her a sandwich. My mom asked for a blanket, and she said ok. It was an hour later before we got that blanket. I told her my mom was STILL hungry. She leaves and comes back saying they didn't have any sandwiches, so she brought graham crackers, jello, and pudding. With no spoon. Oh and about a 1/4 cup of water. At 11:30 am, they decide they're going to admit her to the hospital because of something they saw on the CT scan that had nothing to do with the chest pain she came in for! They also stated they wanted to do an MRI and an ultrasound on her heart to rule out stroke. We just have to wait on a bed to get ready so we can be admitted. We've been here 5 hours at this point with my mom in severe chest pain, and they're JUST NOW wanting to rule out stroke?! At about 12:45 PM, another nurse comes in and leaves gowns on the bed for my mom to change into for the MRI. She has about 5 wires hooked onto her chest, one going into her finger, and they expected her to get out of her clothes? It took me 15 minutes to get all the wires unhooked, my mom in the gowns, and the wires hooked back onto her chest. Oh and the window had to be taped up because the curtain was stuck and we couldn't close it. At 1:15 another lady wheels the ultrasound machine in. She is bumbling all over the place trying to get the machine in there. Another lady came in, and I could tell by their conversation that she was training the first lady. The experienced lady handled the ultrasound, explaining everything to the other lady along the way. When she finished, she pretty much told the other lady to play around with it so she could get comfortable. It was an over an hour before the ultrasound mess was finished so she could go get her MRI, 3:00 PM by the time we made it to the bed they promised. Meanwhile, my mom is still experiencing pain, and no one is addressing it. The neurologist came in and explained the results of the MRI. I inquired about her chest pain, and he ordered a second MRI to look at her neck and chest because the first one didn't address those parts. By 9:45 we still had not received the results of the second MRI or the ultrasound. We finally got a nurse to come in and we asked what was going on. We expressed our frustration at the lack of communication, and her response was pretty much, "Well visiting hours are over so only one of you can stay to talk to a supervisor." Yeah we refused to leave. Had they come in there to check on her and give us some communication before visiting hours ended, we would have been gone anyway. They brought the charge nurse and the hospitalist in to finally explain what was going on and let us know that all of the results were not in and that we would have results in the morning. All of this confusion could have been avoided had they just shown a little concern and compassion for their patients, and also learned how to communicate effectively. The staff at Memorial Hermann is completely incompetent and uncaring. Never will I ever advise anyone to seek help at this facility, as they clearly do not know the first thing about patient care. The only reason they get 1 star is because I am unable to review them without leaving something. Ridiculous that they are allowed to...
Read moreSo where do I begin, this was the hospital for my daughter’s delivery. When she called to get an opinion if she should come in because she possibly had started her labor and was having contractions, the nurse laughed and did not give a definitive answer. Not major but rude.
Second a nurse came in during her labor and requested to speak with my child alone. She is 22 but forever my Babygirl. The nurse then told my daughter she had tested positive for heroine!!!! and then suggested the test showed high levels in her system. . My daughter doesn’t do drugs, just graduated college, and we were confused. A second test was requested but denied by the nurse. My daughter was terrified of losing her child for false accusations. Then about an hour later, the same nurse came in and explained there has been a mix up on the test results and an error. Obviously because my child doesn’t do drugs but the energy had been changed by the alarming incorrect information. The stress of thinking she might not be able to bring her newborn home, stressed her and the baby out during that hour timeframe affecting her labor. This caused the baby stress and he had a bowel movement in the womb. This was discovered when they broke her water. My poor child was crying at what was suppose to be a happy time in her life. Unacceptable.
During labor which my child had requested to be natural. Epidural was suggested and strongly pushed multiple times 4 or 5 times. Even suggesting just a consultation 2 or 3 times, it made for a stressful birthing environment and experience. She already has back issues why increase them with an epidural. Not what she wanted, why keep asking. The nurse kept saying the epidural does not cause back issues, I know more than a few women including myself who would disagree. But we also did not want the baby exposed to the drug or my child’s body.
A few more issues happened but I am tired of typing at this point and exhausted from the thought of this hospitals handling of the birth of my grandson. Did I mention they didn’t call my daughters doctor until she dialated to 10, as her doctor was on call. Who waits until it’s tome to push to call the doctor. The nurses almost had to deliver. Then just pulled some random lady doctor to deliver the baby. All wrong!!!
Upon leaving the hospital with our healthy baby boy, unfortunately the new parents forgot blankets in the babies bag. My grandson was wrapped in a hospital blanket over his clothing. The nurse actually wanted the blanket off the baby because the hospital does not give out blankets or anything else. We offered to pay for the blanket, actually offered to overpay for the blanket as the weather was not the best outside on this day. The nurse informed me that due to the affordable care act “ObamaCare” blankets are to be left at the hospital. She said ACA was the reason, but we didn’t want a free blanket, we offered to pay at that time or bill it. Anyways with an attitude they let us have the blanket. We got major attitude at this point. The nurse explained the budget was tight due to ACA. By the way my daughter has insurance through me and it isn’t Medicaid, but that should never make a difference in how a person is treated. Not sure what the nurse was suggesting, but her attitude was demeaning and unnecessary.
Bad experience, some of the nurses were great, but overall too many issues to ever use them again.
Simply frustrated about this experience, hope no one else is made to feel this way during their delivery. People just don’t love and care for one another anymore, or babies either I’m guessing. The willingness to send a newborn baby into rainy weather because of a hospital blanket rule is sad and unloving for any human being let alone a nurse in a...
Read moreI used to sing praises about MH, but I’m never coming back here again. My husband went to the ER on 8/29 because he had a high grade fever due to COVID which made his sciatica flare up so bad that he couldn’t walk because of excruciating pain. They attended him just fine however in all the hustle and bustle, the intake person entered his address wrong in the system. Now this wouldn’t be so bad except they gave him a strong narcotic prescription to help manage his pain. He was discharged early the next morning expecting to get a prescription filled as soon as Walgreens opened up.
I go to Walgreens and ask for his prescription and they tell me that they can’t fill it because the address the prescription came for doesn’t match his Walgreens profile. Fine. We’ve moved a couple of times so I name off a few addresses and none of them matched. So I was told to call Memorial hermann to get the info changed and then resubmitted so Walgreens could fill it.
So I call the ER, which is an ordeal in itself. I got voice mail box after voice mail box. When I finally got someone, the lady told me that they don’t submit addresses with prescriptions. I ask if there was a way they could fix the address so I could get it filled since my husband was dying from pain at home. For context, I also had COVID and my baby had COVID and I had to lug her around trying to get this filled. I told her as much, and I asked her if there was anything she could do and she told me to try transferring the prescription to another Walgreens. Big help.
So I told walgeeens what they told me that and the Walgreens lady, who was very kind, told me politely that what memorial hermann said was wrong. They LEGALLY have to submit prescriptions with an address. Otherwise anyone could walk out with a prescription that wasn’t theirs. Okay. So I call memorial hermann AGAIN, and I get a very rude woman on the phone. I explain the whole ordeal and she puts me on hold several times. She explains to me the address she has. And it sounded familiar but was completely off. I asked her if she meant X address and she told me that’s not what I have. I told her that it must’ve been entered wrong and if she could fix it and resubmit it. She told me that Walgreens would have to call them. So I told her to please give me a direct line to avoid all the holds. At this point I had spent nearly 2 hours trying to get this darn thing filled.
Walgreens then calls my husband and informs him that they can’t fill it because MH told them that they need someone to go in person and get his address corrected. And it can only get corrected in person.
So off I go to memorial hermann. I have his ID. I have his discharge paperwork. I get there and the lady at triage, who was also very kind, tells me she can’t do anything. That my husband either has to come in person, and when I explained why that’s not possible, she tells me he needs to WRITE A LETTER to GIVE ME PERMISSION. When I asked if he could call since o already had all identifying documents, she told me the law stated it had to done this way. When I argued that you couldn’t verify a letter she told me that’s simply what protocol was. Why couldn’t they tell me they needed this letter A LONG TIME AGO??
So Memorial Hermann, I refuse to believe that patient care is the first priority. Clearly, none of your staff gives a flying fudge to be helpful. It seems that over the past few years, the reputation of this hospital has seriously declined. I don’t recommend...
