Pappasito's Cantina — Restaurant in Sugar Land

I was in this establishment today for my birthday. I made a reservation through the scheduling office on Wednesday, some minor details were left out, but my questions were answered, and my requests were honored.

Today, on my birthday, I spoke to Mindy about my seating reservation. Mindy was quite stern regarding the reservation which, partially I understand. I kept her in the loop about any changes to the party size, and I accommodated all of her requests as she asked me to do in a short period of time. Each time I spoke to her (twice via phone), she was extremely rude. She made up a lot of rules about seating and me giving up tables. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was told by the hostesses that Mindy wanted to speak to me. I told them ok, please let her know that I'm here. When my family started to arrive, she did not speak to me at first, instead, she spoke to one of my family members who happened to be a tall white man. When my aunt and I tried to let Mindy know that I was the person who she needed to talk to, she had an attitude and said she needed to talk to my white relative about something else. Moving on, she asked how many people were currently at the restaurant? And there was 8 out of 27, she flexed the rule that she had about all 27 people in my party needing to be seated to being ok with 10 being seated immediately. However, she continued to push for me dropping tables soon if people were not on time. Before we moved to the table, Mindy said something rude and snippy to my mother. I didn't appreciate that, and it was unnecessary. I was not shy about letting Mindy know she was rude...later I found out that she has a reputation for being rude to patrons and her coworkers.

We were sat in the back in the party room area, and thank God, we worked with another, more even-tempered manager Leti! She was more engaging and helpful! Her focus was on my party having a wonderful experience...which she made happen! The two staff working the table, Jackie and Carlos were absolutely AMAZING! I am so glad that the horrible experience I had over the phone and in person with Mindy today was completely different from what the staff at the back of the restaurant provided. Mindy did continue to walk back to the table where my family was, but her expectation that we would not fill up the tables quickly was defeated.

I'm going to report Mindy to the highest level as possible. She is rude, clearly racist, and unprofessional. Pappasitos, please consider helping Mindy find new employment! She's an embarrassment to that location.

Please keep and promote Leti, Jackie, and Carlos! They are amazing staff...

It could have been the best night ever but something happened that I really wished I had talked to the manager before we left. We were celebrating 3 birthdays Saturday night and was having such a GREAT time with the food, drinks and mariachi band the atmosphere was perfect....until we had a table come in later that was seated next to our table, which we didn't even notice or paid attention to until one of the ladies came up to our table as she was walking by and yelled out some racial slur! It was so shocking that I thought she was talking to someone from her table as a joke so I turned to look and noticed she gave our table a dirty look as they moved their party to the other side of us behind a glass wall. My friend who was sitting across from me said the lady looked at her directly when she yelled out her racial slur so it was intentional. We were sooo upset but didn't want to ruin the night so we just ignored it. When the waiters came to sing the 3 Happy Birthdays, we all sang as loud and happily as ever bc we were having the best time ever. However as we were leaving and had to pass their table, the rude racist lady nudged the rest of her table to stare us down (so immature bc this was a table of 6 seniors!!!). My friend had enough so he turned to ask them what the problem was. Of course the racist lady started yelling some more slurs...we had to pull him back from walking over there. It left us all with a very ICKY feeling and basically ruined our awesome night bc that's what we ended up remembering and talked about the rest of the night. I wanted to go talk to the manager to let him know but my friends said there is nothing they can do so don't waste my time. Unfortunately it was still bothering me so I felt like I had to post it here. I don't know WHY they were even at Pappasitos Saturday night when there was loud music and lots of people enjoying themselves. If they wanted peace and quiet, they should have went somewhere else! Maybe Luby's was closed?!? Anyways, I would still highly recommend this location despite what happened, can't let the negative energy and ignorance of some immature people stop you from enjoying and celebrating the positives in this world, life is...

Pappasito’s did not let us down. An amazing meal full of flavor and enjoyment. So much so that I neglected to gets photos from this visit which is a disappointment as the dishes looked amazing! The Coronado was great. It came with three large bacon wrapped shrimp that were seasoned and grilled to a mouthwatering perfection. The crispy taco was about the size of my plate. Great crunch flavor. Cheese enchilada was full of cheese and topped with a delicious spiced sauce. El Sombrero came with a chicken fajita that was super tender. One that really hit my taste buds was the Birria De Res. Hats off tho the chef on this one. Clearly a dish made of passion. The spiced broth is dripping of flavor and the meat was super tender. The fresh corn tortillas were excellent. Flavor packed! 4.8 / 5 on the food - just cannot beat this. You feel very satisfied with the value. The service was great. Very attentive, helpful and timely. Kind and helpful staff made for a very enjoyable meal. That restaurant has a very unique feel as it’s designed to maximize the occupants. This is a detractor regarding the atmosphere however it is part of the experience. The one downside for me is the lack of fresh air or rather the fact that I leave smelling like gym socks. Definitely a sign that the food is excellent and I will definitely go back. I just wish I didn’t have to plan on washing my coat following dinner. Dislikes aside, great food from good staff and excellent value! ...
