MK BBQ — Restaurant in Sullivan

I’ve been seeing signs all around about MK barbecue so I was very happy to find it. Until we actually started eating my friend and I were very disappointed in the food because we’re used to Missouri Hick BBQ where they give such a large portions with great service and very very reasonable pricing. AT MK. The portions were small, we ordered the brisket and ended up with two small slices that had quite a lot of fat. You’re only get one side with your mail which we chose potato salad. The potato salad was pretty good, but we didn’t understand why there was only one side. The drinks came in cans or bottles, and there were no refills. We had to order from the counter and they called her name when the food was ready. Needless to say we probably won’t be going back. We recently checked out MK Barbeque in Sullivan, Missouri, and had a fantastic experience. We got there a bit late to try their famous beef brisket and pork ribs, but the pulled pork sandwiches we had instead were absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, smoky, and full of flavor. MK Barbeque is just a little south of Highway 66, and it's definitely worth the short detour. The restaurant has a tidy and welcoming vibe. I suggest getting the combo with the Fritz’s sodas.

We have to give a shoutout to owner Kirk. His passion for barbeque really shines through in every bite. He was trained by some of the best in the business, and it shows in the quality of the food. His dedication to the craft, or as we like to call it, his 'gospel of barbeque,' adds a special touch to the whole dining experience.

We were camping at the State Park and asked for recommendations. We received the most recommendations for MK BBQ. We walked up to the guy at the smokers and were greeted warmly by the staff. We came back a couple of nights later with a group of us. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. We loved the atmosphere! I’m picky about my smoked meats! The Kirk’s have done this right. As far as the other place mentioned, this is so much better on every level!!! I have driven over an hour to come back to MK BBQ three more times. They do not disappoint!
