Hailing from Delhi, I couldn't contain my excitement upon hearing about the authentic Chole Bhature being advertised on Bolly 92.3. While I wasn't holding out for a Haldiram-level experience, the promise of a taste of Delhi, a city I dearly miss, led me to give this food truck a chance.
To my disappointment, the bhature they served resembled more of a poori than the fluffy bhaturas I'm used to. The chole, too, failed to capture the essence of Delhi's iconic flavors. Anyone from North India knows that the color and taste of chole in the Bay Area don't quite match up. Authentic Delhi chole should have that rich black-brown hue imparted by tea leaves, along with the distinctive aroma of ghee and masala. The color was somewhat reminiscent of Delhi's chole, but the excessive presence of amchur in each bite threw off the balance entirely.
We ordered one Chole Bhature along with one additional Bhatura, which set us back $22. Shockingly, that extra Bhatura came with a hefty $5 price tag. The wait time was 20 minutes, and when our order arrived, it was evident that the bhaturas weren't freshly fried and had been stacked on top of each other for some time. This lack of freshness was truly disappointing and made the experience far from worthwhile.
For those seeking a better Chole Bhature fix, I'd recommend giving the Delhi Chat Truck a try. While their chole might not perfectly replicate the flavors of Delhi, they do serve up some delectable bhaturas, making it a more...
Read moreWe recently tried Spicy Tandoor in Sunnyvale, CA, and had mixed feelings about the experience. We ordered the Dahi Puri, Kachori Chaat, Daal Aloo Tikki Chaat, and Amritsari Kulche with Cholle. While the variety of dishes was appealing, the overall execution left us a bit disappointed.
The Dahi Puri wasn’t up to the mark—the puris were soggy, which took away from the usual crisp texture that makes this dish so enjoyable. It felt like it had been prepared ahead of time and lacked the freshness we were hoping for.
The Daal Aloo Tikki Chaat also fell short, as the spices didn’t seem to gel well with the rest of the dish. The flavors felt disjointed rather than harmonizing into the bold and tangy taste expected from a good chaat.
The Amritsari Kulche and Cholle, while generously portioned, were overly loaded with oil and lacked the rich flavor typically associated with this dish. The cholle, in particular, could have used more depth in seasoning.
On a brighter note, the Kachori Chaat was decent, with a nice crunch and a tangy, spicy flavor that stood out among the dishes we tried.
While the convenience of the food truck and the diverse menu are definite positives, the inconsistent quality and lack of flavor in some dishes left us wanting more. We hope to see improvements in freshness and seasoning in the future, as the concept has...
Read moreThis food truck is a bit of a mixed bag... The food is great sometimes... and by great I mean awesome, among the best chole bhature, kulche, and aloo kachori you can find anywhere. The chur chur naan is also great, though the accompanying dal and paneer are just ok. But after several visits I have found that the quality is inconsistent. On more than one occasion the chole was sub-par... in one case the chole was too khatta, in another case they were running out of chole and what we got was a diluted version of the real thing. The sooji dahi poori was really good, but the pooris were stale. The tamarind chutney that accompanies the chole bhature has a weird acidic taste. This food truck has operational issues to work out... you can expect to wait close to an hour during rush times. The orders are delivered in a trickle with a large gap between each delivery. Maybe adding another person to cook will help? The owners are sincere, friendly, and trying really hard to bring a different menu and authentic tastes to the area. There are flashes of brilliance. I will continue to support this establishment and hope that they can work...
