This use to be our go-to spot for anything Teriyaki or sushi. Then the place burned down and was unavailable for years. When they finally rebuilt and reopened, we were stoked to visit at first but more than just the building had changed. So did their recipes evidently and the amazing food that we had remembered and waited to enjoy again after such a long time was a huge let down. Nothing tasted like we remembered it and not only that but it wasn't even good. That was our last visit to this location and that was also many years ago. Last night I had a craving for some Teriyaki and decided to give them another try. Why not? It has been long enough that things could have changed for the better right? Wrong! I don't know if the ownership has changed but the first thing I noticed upon my arrival last night was that there were absolutely zero other customers. It was around 7pm and the place was a ghost town. I studied the menu and made my decision as to what would be for dinner and then I placed my order. Nothing out of the ordinary there and the lady who took my order was very kind and helpful. What really struck me as odd was that my food was ready for me in about 5 minutes or less. I had ordered one regular chicken Teriyaki meal, one combo with Teriyaki chicken and General Tsao chicken less the rice with salad instead and an order of gyoza. While I waited, I heard none of the sounds that the kitchen should have been making to prepare my food. No sound of a wok being used, no sound of meat being chopped, nothing. I suspect that they must now pre-prepare the food and either keep it in warmers or microwave it upon receiving the orders. I took my food home to enjoy and I feel that my microwave assumptions may be correct. The Teriyaki chicken was barely warm and was devoid of any Teriyaki sauce. The only sauce was very runny in the bottom of the takeout container underneath the chicken. The General Tsao chicken was much hotter but had no crunch. The usual crispy batter was soggy and limp. The flavors were still off as well. When I finally reached the Teriyaki sauce underneath my chicken, it was very salty as far as Teriyaki sauce goes and the General Tsao was bland with no hint of spice at all. My steamed veggies were more raw still than I'd prefer too. My salad was good and the gyoza seemed the freshest item that I had bought. Looks like it's going to be another decade before I give this place another chance and fingers crossed, it's not just to remind myself of why I no n longer eat there yet again. Unfortunately the only place I can recommend as an alternative is across the bridge in Gig Harbor. Tacoma is seriously lacking for a good Teriyaki restaurant but if you fund one, please let me...
Read moreYesterday I went out to eat with a tew friends at a teriyaki place and ordered chow mein with beef. When our plates were brought at the taste of our first serving the meat had an awful taste. I kindly informed the waitress and she went to go tell, whom I'm assuming was the owner, a female Asian lady. She started off with "never in my 20 years here has anyone complained". I said I'm sorry but it does not taste right. She became unhinged and started shouting you will pay for it. I told her NO we will not, and if she wanted to taste it. She was very hostile we got up and started walking away and she said " I'm going to take a picture of you and show that you didn't pay!" I said ok I will take a picture of the food, and she went towards my friend who went to take the picture and shoved her, and literally if I didn't mention I was going to involve the police she would have hit her with a plate. My friend has a heart condition and luckily she didn't shove her on her bad shoulder, that was terrible. What in the world! never had such an awful experience like that in my life. Stay clear away from "HAPPY TERIYAKI". More like UNHAPPY TERIYUCKY! Located in...
Read moreTeriyaki was good, nothing special. They serve warm cabbage instead of salad, I prefer salad with my teriyaki- but that is just a preference. I would order here again if I needed to, but there's nothing that would make me come here over any other Teriyaki place. Also, and this is just a pet peeve, but I hate it when they make you pay for one extra teriyaki sauce after you just paid $20 for your teriyaki, especially when they know you've paid with a card and your only asking because there's not enough sauce on your Teriyaki ( not because your like stocking up on sauce for your refrigerator at home, or your asking for 3-4 sauces or something). *That's not a reason to take points off, or not come here, and I didn't rate them less for it; because everywhere does it. However whenever i find a shop that doesn't do that ( or that gives you enough sauce you don't have to ask for an extra) then that makes me want to come...
