No beer price menu visible at the bar, or available online, before you order. So you have no idea what you’re going to pay for drinks before they overcharge you.
Acoustics of the space are extremely echoey. The music was very loud and almost inappropriately bass-heavy, considering it was supposed to a taproom at lunchtime and not a nightclub at 10PM. If that’s your scene more power to you, but if that’s true then you might not like that it also has the sounds of children screaming, which I ordinarily don’t even mind that much, since they become equally overwhelmingly loud even when you’re all the way across the room from the family. The fully open concept layout is doing this venue absolutely no favors.
Many of the tables, including the ones we had to sit at because everywhere else was full, have stools that are about a foot too short for them, so when you sit down the table comes up way too high, just below your neck and is extremely awkward and uncomfortable. It might be a better experience if visiting when it’s mostly empty, which could explain all the rave reviews accompanied by pictures with just a handful of people.
The food at the canteen was pretty alright, but shrinkflated so it ends up overpriced for what you get. $13 before tax and tip for three medium-sized chicken tenders. No side fries come with, though they’ve tried to make the basket seem less empty with a teeny bag of chips. You need to pay another 8 dollars if you want some fries or tots. Left hungry and disappointed, but didn’t feel like paying (and waiting nearly 30 minutes) for more food.
All in all, I regret spending so much here to have one of the most disappointing dates I’ve had with my partner in the 14 years we’ve been together. And that’s including the ones when we were broke college kids who got gas station fast food while waiting to catch the Greyhound and called that a date.
If you want somewhere in this neighborhood to just go for good food and a decent place to sit down, Abella’s is just a few blocks away. The pizza there is to die for, the tables and chairs are a normal size, and you can hear each other to have a...
Read moreHonestly, we love this place and have Gone so many times over the years but this evening was a souring experience. We have two kids, one being two years old and the biggest selling point is the informal environment to bring children (couches, being able to move around while eating — people with kids get it) tonight towards the end of our 2 hour family gathering, my youngest daughter was going from one couch to the other saying “boo!” To her family members and we would act scared which made her belly laugh IN A WAREHOUSE THAT ECHOES. This goes on, we’re all having a great time and the bartender comes over and goes “would you like some coloring books?” And I had all my coloring items that I brought with us on the table and we were going to leave within a few minutes but I accepted and she very rudely said “also keep the screaming to like a zero okay?” And turned her back and walked away. Please keep in mind, we are VERY aware when our children are causing a scene — this was NOT it. When our toddler was too loud we quietly shushed her and let her continue having fun with her family.
All this to say — I am not pleased with people (staff or patrons) who go to a kid friendly establishment and then get rude with customers who have kids being kids. If my kids were in any way SCREAMING, we would remove them (as we have done in the past) I’m sure that gal was just annoyed but if you don’t like kids, there are plenty of over 21 bars in Tacoma to get a job ❤️ anyways — happy kids should never be told to dull their laughter, be better and let...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. Initially, I was impressed by the atmosphere and the layout. Nice decor, comply couches, spacious and tall celeangs. The party room was kind of blant, resembling more of mom and pop low end burger joint on route 66. Not an issue there. I was driving and could not drink any alcohol, so I went the bar to ask for a sugar free soda. They do not carry any sugar free anything! What? How many people are they shunning away? Their bad business decisions are their right afer all. Then I went to use the restroom. As you can see in the pictures, the man's room and the door, or lack of it, is located in direct view of the bar and people walking around. For ladies to walk to the ladies room, they have to walk pass the men room. Here is the crazy: the men's room has only an old west style swing doors about waste high and they don't even close right, so any woman, or a child, specifically your girls,.some as young as 9, 10, 11 or 12 years old are.looking directly inside the man's urinals watching grown men urinate as the pass by, or they can just stand between the bar and the entrance to the toilets and see it all inside. I was there for a party and we had at least 10 children in our group, but there were other people with their kids in the bar too. I was shocked that children were in the bar area just standing around. I thought there were restrictions of the minimum age of 21 for bar patrons?! Anyway, I am shocked at the fact the man's room had no door. I will not be suggesting for anyone to bring...
