10 stars to the Seminole Cafe! We recently ate dinner here with about 100, 6th and 7th grade students along with our teachers and adult chaperones. College food service has changed dramatically since I was in University! The Seminole Cafe provides menu options for every kind of person from vegan/vegetarian through full American traditional foods. There are more than enough food choices to satisfy anyone wanting a filling and healthy meal. The food serving and dining areas were spotless, and the self service serving style allowed for a quick grab and go system. Cafe supervisors had a constant eye on the efficiency of the entire cafe, and made sure everyone was happy with their food and if they could help in anyway. Even though we were a large group, we did not impede the flow of the serving area at all due to the really great design of the entire cafe from the food service area, through the seating area, and the final scullary, everything worked perfectly without any glitches in the system. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful, and our students made many comments about how the staff really seemed like they cared about them as guests and the jobs they were performing. Our students were engaged in conversations by many of the staff that were interested in where we were all from, and what we were in town to visit. Thank you very much to the crew at the Seminole Cafe! The 6th and 7th grade students and teachers at Admiral Farragut Academy appreciated your warm...
Read moreIt's school food; better than most public schools and the menu certainly has variety from day to day but whether or not it's quality, or fresh, depends on the staff that day. EDIT 6 years later (2022) - much has changed. Without exposing too much about the inner workings of Seminole Cafe (formerly Fresh Foods Co), I amend my review and can say that the food is fresh, often made in the hours leading up to service and continuously throughout the day. It is also generally really quality stuff, much improved since I was a student - changes include: a sushi bar (replacing the general build-your-own salad), with daily fresh prepared ingredients and a weekly menu; specialty pizzas changed daily between lunch and dinner; hot and cold desserts; plant forward station for vegetarian and sometimes vegan options and desserts; and the smokehouse station, which is similar to Traditions in that they have a protein and side dishes, however at smokehouse proteins are more often smoked or slow-cooked overnight and sometimes may have seafood. There are still challenges, mostly effects of the ongoing pandemic, such as staff shortages affecting quality of service, and sometimes food item shortages (most often, fresh produce items like fruits and veggies); be mindful of these. All that said, it is a buffet, and with it being open to not just the university but public guests, I'd consider it well worth the $9 to $11 to get in (prices vary from breakfast to dinner, as well as for public...
Read moreThe facts:
Food is healthier.
The options are more limited. EX: it's taco day, and there is no condiment station for cheese, sour cream, etc. You get your lettuce and sliced tomatoes from the burger stand.
The music is entirely too loud. Everyone is speaking like they're at an event, and I can still make out the music... it's like I'm at a movie theater, and the pre movie waiting music is on blast. Maybe dial it down a couple of notches when it's slow and not noisey.
The staff here seem generally unhappy or reserved. Perhaps it's an off day, but I can count on one hand those that ask if you need help, are smiling, etc. Makes me reluctant to ask for food, like I've done something wrong.
The environment is much better than Suwanee. It's more spacious (but not larger), it's lighter, brighter, and all together more upbeat. The crowd here is more mature as well. The room isn't filmed with students pushing past each other and laughing and carrying on obnoxiously loud, etc.
I dont like that it's not self-serve except for pizza and dessert. I understand that it's to keep wastefulness down, but every time I ask for a little, I still get a lot and end up throwing half of everything I get in the trash. It would he wise to implement food portion options. Like a half serving or something.
Overall, I like the ambiance better, but the vibe is all off. The modern interior and sushi bowls are what's got me sold. That and it's not slapped in the...
