This is my true review of my experience at Firbirds, on September 28, 2024 with a couple of minor grammatical edits or clarity [Shown in brackets]. You will see a review by "Michael on Open Table by someone named 'MIchael". It is entire lypossible that two Michaels posted about their recent dining experience at Firebirds, Fort Mill, SC. Mine is missing.
TL/DR: The service was good; Bacon Deviled Eggs good; the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls delicious (recommended) the steaks JUST AWFUL; chicken dry; tater tots (Yikes); desserts (bread pudding & creme brulee cheesecake) yummy.
We were a party of five, coworkers enjoying a quarterly night out. Using OpenTable to book the reservation was easy. The place was very busy [but we were seated] almost immediately. The ambiance is fine for any but the most romantic of occasions.
The Craft cocktail list was ok, the selection of bourbons (if you like bourbon) was very good, the wine list reasonable, and the menu had enough differentiation to suit most people. Of special note is the Three Course Menu (soup or salad, selected entrees, and a small selection of desserts). At $40.00, it appeared to be an outstanding value.
Service was good considering how busy it was but one companion was not served his glass of wine and we eventually had to flag down the server.
Three of us ordered the Grilled Sirloin from the Three Course. I ordered the Cilantro-Grilled Chicken, also from the same menu.
When the food was served, we had our first surprise: The Grilled Sirloin looked nothing like the picture on the web site; instead looked like a filet. I am jealous. I will take filet over chicken any day of the week.
Unfortunately, it mostly went all downhill from there. The filets were ordered at various temperatures but not a single one came close to the mark. Each was overcooked and not just by a little. My chicken was somewhat bland and dry. One companion ordered tater tots. Care for a teaspoon of salt with your tots? Avoid.
My colleagues did not want to make a fuss but I mentioned my concerns. A manager came over and offered to have new steaks brought out or make a price adjustment. We asked for neither. Everything else can be good but if the steaks are ruined, it makes for a disappointing experience. I am not sure I will be back, except for the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and dessert.
You can see our experience at Firebirds on Saturday, September 28 was less than satisfactory. It was my first time there and I was looking forward to a good dinner with friends from work. I understand restaurants, having worked in a couple so I know how busy the kitchen can be on a busy night.
I also get that it is easy to get it wrong when cooking steak. Yet, all three steaks were overcooked by a lot. I mean, it was not even close. Our server was gracious about it all. She brought over the manager who offered to make it right by bringing out new steaks. A co-worker said no and mumbled under her breath she did not want to risk having someone spit in her food so you can see you are in an almost no-win situation.
He then offered to make a price adjustment. We declined that too. I know margins can be dodgy.
Fort Mill, while a rapidly growing community, is still short of mid-upscale dining establishments. As much as I want to give everyone a second chance and come back, but with the cost of eating out, I will think long and hard...
Read moreToday is my birthday and I was super excited to go to firebirds in Ft.Mill first time coming since we are regulars in South Park location. The food was amazing as far as steaks, sides and drinks. Location is beautiful 🤩 Unfortunately I had a server by the name Michelle who had us sit for 18 mins after being seated by the lovely host. Michelle not only passed us by 5 times with no acknowledgement. My husband then got up after 25 mins waiting for someone to greet us, he went up to the hostess and asked who our server was. After Michelle was advised we are her table she came with no apology, no sincerity, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. Michelle then did not offer us on Happy Hour, she did not ask any questions. Michelle then went to my minor children and asked what they would like to eat vs asking their parents. My husband told her to ask him so he can tell her everything, she failed to acknowledge his request. After receiving our drinks and waited for our entrees, Michelle passed everyone but my daughter the wrong plates and advised to us "They got it right " in a cocky manner My daughter ordered a burger no cheese and it was presented like a science project of rocks. My husband again had to stop her and advise the issue with the burger. Michelle took everything lightly and nonchalant with my family on my birthday. I never one time saw a manger come over to us and ask what had happened and how we are doing after the mistake. Michelle brought out the 2nd burger and it was disgusting. While my children were still eating Michelle came to the table and asked if we wanted any desert we declined and she dropped the tab on the table. So my experience with Ft.Mill Firebirds was the following,
No integrity No Urgency Lack of Customer service in Fine Dinning No Team Work Rushed And only about the money.
Michelle all I have to say is look into another field of employment because 5 Star service is not what you are. Thank you for ruining my special day. Greatly...
Read moreI usually don’t eat at chain restaurants, but I returned here after having a pretty good Caesar salad at someone’s birthday dinner… after revisiting 03/10/2025, I wish had just gone somewhere else. For some reason, the salad was not as good as the first time, but I didn’t make any complaints… I just wanted to eat and be out of their way. I ended up ordering one of their mocktails and adding my choice of spirit to it, (as suggested by my server) but when I received the bill, I was charged for a cocktail then charged separately for the alcohol which is nearly the price of a second cocktail… which makes no sense, because all of their cocktails there are cheap. I asked the server why I was being billed that way and she asked if I wanted her to get the manager. I said yes and the manager came over quickly, but she was very unprofessional and rude to me. She also couldn’t explain the charge - she tried blowing me off by saying “that’s just how the system is” and finally admitted that she didn’t know. She ends up walking off mid conversation after trying to argue with me and then comes back to refund the charge, after I already paid. The whole interaction seemed very unnecessary, because the cash and tip for the initial bill was already on the table before she even came over. I appreciate the removal of the charge, even though I wasn’t asking for it. However I don’t appreciate the manager being rude to me when I asked for an explanation. It’s not really a fine dining restaurant so maybe my expectations were too high, but I feel that all customers at minimum, should be treated with respect, no matter what type of restaurant of it is. Business was pretty slow, they should have been a little more...
