Before the Tempe location opened, I saw the exterior of the building and felt excited to try it once it opened as a pizza place.
I researched Prince St. Pizza and discovered that it originally opened in New York City in 2012. Pizza is my favorite food, and I enjoy a good New York-style slice of pizza.
The Tempe location had its grand opening on August 28th. Upon hearing about the length of the line that day, I decided to try it for myself the following day.
I got there about half an hour after they opened, and there was already a considerably long line outside the door. Regardless, I got in line and waited.
As I approached the building's entrance, I noticed that Prince St. Pizza had a rewards program. Once I realized I could earn bonus points simply by signing up, I decided I could not pass up the opportunity.
The staff warmly greeted me upon entering the building. Based on what I saw from the inside, I realized it was a grab-and-go kind of pizza place (which was okay with me).
When it was my turn to order, one of the staff members asked me how my day was going, and I replied that it was going well while asking them how theirs was. He said he appreciated my asking how he was doing before inquiring about the pizza I would like to try. Since it was my first time, I tried their simplest slice, the Neapolitan Original Prince (their version of a cheese pizza). It was one of the best New York-style pizzas I have ever had.
I have since returned and tried their Sicilian Meat Lovers slices, which were not only delicious but also had a texture that reminded me of garlic bread.
It also helps that my job is within walking distance of the restaurant.
I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a great New York-style...
Read moreLast year while living in NYC, I went on a mission to find the best slice in all of New York and Long Island. Honestly, it was one of my favorite adventures from our time there — though I probably gained 20 pounds along the way! 😂
Now that I’m back in the Valley, I was super excited to hear that Prince Street Pizza had opened in Tempe. In New York, I was never a full-on fanboy of Prince Street — don’t get me wrong, it’s good pizza, but it didn’t crack my personal top 10. Still, I couldn’t wait to see how they’d translate here.
First impressions? They nailed the dough and crust. Crisp on the bottom, chewy in the middle — exactly what you’d expect from a true New York slice. Where they lost me a bit was the sauce. For me, it was a little one-note, and it looks like they’re using sliced mozzarella instead of shredded. That’s just a personal preference, but I found myself wanting a little more cheese to balance things out.
The regular cheese slice was solid — I’m giving it a 7.2/10. The spicy pepperoni was definitely better, with that signature kick, earning a 7.8/10. Both are good, honest slices, but not the kind that blow your mind.
What I will say is that Prince Street brings that New York vibe with them. The energy, the look, the feel — it all fits. I’m glad they’ve opened here in Arizona, and I’ll definitely go back to give the full menu a shot. For now, though, they’re just barely hanging on in my...
Read moreI understand this is a new location, but my experience was extremely disappointing.
I ordered two pizzas online for Tuesday at 12:30 PM pickup. When I arrived, the store was closed—yet my card had already been charged $99. I left messages with no return calls. I finally reached someone Wednesday, who admitted he didn’t work there but would pass along the message. The team said they would reschedule my order for Thursday.
On Thursday, I went in at noon (since phones still weren’t being answered). They had no record of my order. The manager took my info and re-entered the order, even offering to comp it, which I declined. I added a third pizza, which he did comp. I was told 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, nothing was ready. Fifteen minutes later, I saw my two pizzas sitting in the warmer. When I asked about the third, they said the ticket never printed and it would take another 15 minutes. At that point, I was done. I asked for any slices ready in the warmer, took those and my two pizzas, and left.
The communication was terrible, phones were never answered, and the front counter staff acted like I was the problem—arguing over whether I had really waited 55 minutes vs. an hour. That’s not how you treat paying customers.
You need to get your process, communication, and customer...
