TL;DR: $35 for cold or microwaved food for two; not coming back.
When we came in, none of the staff greeted us. The layout was strange. We couldn't tell if we sat or ordered at the counter. Once we figured it out, we ordered the lamb meatballs for an appetizer, I ordered the souvlaki and gyro combo, and my husband ordered the mousaka. We were told there weren't enough meatballs for the size of appetizer we ordered (how that happens at 6:30 in the evening, I'm not sure), so we switched to the dolmades (one of my favorite Greek dishes).
Our dolmades came out quickly. We once ate at Niko Niko's, outside, in 47 degree weather. These dolmades were about as warm as those were. The flavor wasn't awful, but below average.
My combo came out in a fairly timely manner. The rice I ordered as a side tasted of nothing but salt. The souvlaki (I ordered the pork) was seasoned well and ranged from slightly dry to juicy. I wouldn't be surprised to learn, however, that the seasoning is the same for everything on the menu. The gyro meat, despite being displayed on a rotisserie, was just barely warm, as was the pita bread. The meat itself was strikingly similar to what you'd find at the mall.
My husband's mousaka came out steaming hot, which would have been a good thing except a) it came out 10 MINUTES after my entree, and b) it had been very obviously microwaved. I tried a bite and was not convinced I had actually eaten anything as it had slightly more taste than air.
Our total for this adventure was just over $35, not counting the $8 we spent at Culver's getting my husband a burger to make up for the inedible mousaka-impersonating mush. We will not be coming back, but if we did,I would not be surprised to see Robert Irvine or Gourds Ramsey wandering around the place...
Read moreI just ate at Savvas for lunch today. I had the Lamb Souvlaki sandwich basket (it came with fries). The meat and the pita were both of high quality and all of the vegetables (lettuce, tomato and onion) that came on it were very fresh. The service was good and they are very polite. The place looked clean as well. The tzatziki sauce had good flavor, but was just a little too subtle. I'd like it to be a bit more robust in flavor (the sauce that is, because the meat had very good flavor - which makes me realize that's probably why the meat flavor shown through, lol). The portion was just right. Fries? Who cares, but since they come in the basket, I'll go ahead and comment that they were crispy and tasty for you basic fries. I wish they would actually put a touch of olive oil with some Greek seasoning on them to make them standout, but it's not like they were bad or anything. My total price was $12. $7.95 for the dish, $2 for the soda (just craving one today) plus a basic tip. I can tell you that I'll certainly be returning to eat there again. They have a salad that looks delicious and I also want to try the cheesecake which is made with Greek yogurt (they claim 40% less calories, which should knock it down to...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for 14 years. In that time, the prices have gone up and the food quality has been hit or miss.
I supported the business even throughout the price hikes, the construction getting to and from the restaurant, and even during the pandemic. And didn’t say anything when they’ve messed up here and there, including leaving out items I paid for. I’ve even recommended them to others to send business their way.
Recently though, they made a big mistake on my meal, blamed it on a new worker, refused to refund the meal or remake it, and I had to go back out before they closed (which is early) to get my missing item. Of course the rest of my meal was cold by the time I got home and was disgusting reheated, so I ended up throwing it out.
And all the owner could say is, that’s sad. What’s sad is coming here for so long and the owner refusing to make it right the one time I bring up an issue.
So I ate the cost of the meal I threw out and won’t be back. 14 years of patronage and the restaurant rather lose that and future business and recommendations, than $14.
I generally don’t write reviews like this, but this is unacceptable and I don’t want others to have to...
