D.A.’S Deli and Dining — Restaurant in Thornton Township

I actually loved this place but ever since they changed to ONLY soul food Sundays the customer service has been absolutely ridiculous. Today was just the icing on the cake. I ordered 3 dinners and a sandwich with one lady and AFTER I paid another lady proceeded to tell me one of the meats for my dinner was no longer available. I didn’t want a substitution so I asked for a refund for that dinner and I’ll still take the other food. The lady proceeded to tell me they don’t do refunds and I’ll have to forfeit my money or choose something else which was only fried chicken or smothered chicken. I told the lady i understood the policy however my card was swiped before you notified me the dish was unavailable therefore I’m entitled to a refund. You charged me based on the availability of a dish you didn’t have. They continued to refuse the refund and told me their manager wasn’t available and wasn’t in reach. This went on about 20-30 mins until I got tired. I literally had to call the police to get a refund and the manager “magically” was available to authorize it. I’ve never dealt with something like this in my life where the police had to be called for a mistake was of no fault of mine. Oppose to a $20 refund now you’re out the whole order. It was extremely unnecessary and unprofessional. Even if a manager is unavailable, their should be someone there to handle and authorize situations such as this. If you ever come across this restaurant, RUN. The employees are absolutely rude and absurd. I deliver for doordash upon arrival they tried to force me to sign a receipt saying I agreed to pay for the purchase amount. I told her I was not signing because I was simply delivering the food, I wasn’t paying. It’s also well known with drivers to never sign receipts because a server could steal tips. The employee told me she wasn’t going to give me the order and I told her that was fine and proceeded to walk away. She then yelled asking me what was my name to report me to doordash (???). I didn’t tell her because she should have my information. I forgot that I was on a double doordash so I couldn’t cancel the order myself. I had to call doordash in order to get it canceled and they had to receive confirmation that I did not receive the order from the restaurant . The lady LOCKED the restaurant doors and ignored doordash calls. I had to get into the drive through line to get the order cancelled where staff continued to harass me. The owner even came outside and stood by my car in attempts to intimidate me while I waited for the employees to contact doordash (as they said they would) in order to get the order cancelled so I could continue to my other delivery that I had in my car already. I literally had to plead with doordash to cancel the order because I felt SUPER unsafe and the employees would not tell doordash that i didn’t receive the order nor call themselves....

I heard about this D.A.'s Deli and Soul food place from my fiancee. He knew I love cornbeef sandwich. He brought me a 1/2 pounder cornbeef sandwich from D.A.'S Deli with chips and pickle. I must say the cornbread sandwich was delicious and very tasty! The next day I ordered a pounder Reuben Sandwich with horseradish, mustard, saurkraut, hot peppers on Rye Bread. This sandwich was definitely a pounder! The $14 to $17 price range was worth it! The Reuben Sandwich was very tasty and absolutely delicious! They make very good cornbeef sandwiches! I also ordered smothered lamp chops with spaghetti and rice with a slice of cornbread. I enjoyed the dinner. It was delicious. For desert, I ordered a slice of carrot cake and a large order of peach cobbler. Both of the deserts were fresh, tasty and mouth watering! I had no complaints with my orders, the price and their service! The owner and staff are very courteous and pleasant. When I place my order of the Reuben Sandwich the owner called me to let me know they were out of mayonnaise. I told her I can do with out the mayonnaise on my sandwich. Also they were out of cheesecake. I had order the banana pudding in place of it. I will be ordering more...
