Living downtown, I was excited to see that a restaurant opened up in the old Black Cloister building, especially after seeing how delicious their menu looked online. We (party of 3) decided to go this evening: we arrived at 6:40 pm and were told by the host that it would be around a 20 minute wait. There was one party of 2 ahead of us. After waiting about 30 minutes, we were moved to a tabletop and said we could order drinks while we waited for a table or booth to open up. No waiter acknowledged us or came over to take any orders until around 20 minutes later when a waitress came over to ask if we’ve been helped yet. We placed order for three sodas and chicken drummettes as an appetizer at around 7:30 pm. While we were still seated at tabletop, other larger groups were being seated presumably because they made reservations. Looking at their website while we were there, they had open reservations for three for a time only 5 minutes out. This means that people could likely place a reservation at any given time and be seated with priority over those who have been waiting over an hour. At 7:50 pm, we flagged the waitress down: we asked to cancel the chicken drummettes and that we would pay for the sodas in order for us to leave. She said to hold on and that she’d go talk to her team members. At almost 8:00 pm, we were told by the waitress that we could just take off and not worry about paying for the cans of soda. Besides spending almost an hour and 20 minutes there for nothing, one other disappointing aspect was that their menu prices were higher than what was posted on their website and they also had a more limited selection of appetizers and entrees, which is pretty disappointing for a restaurant that just opened. We decided to go to a restaurant nearby and noticed other people there who were waiting at Hannon’s Block and left without eating. Although I was really wanting to try their food, I definitely will not be planning...
Read moreI made a reservation while I was in town visiting my elderly blind Nana. We had a party of 5. When we got there, the table hadn't been set, Hope our server walked fast without keeping pace with my grandmother. I cleaned our table after our appetizer course, she left the dishes sitting there forever. She brought out 2 of our entrees while 3 of us waited another almost 5 minutes for ours (the other 2 sitting there getting cold so we could eat as a family). She left our table after dropping 2 to take her other tables order, another gentleman actually brought us our food. My grandmother's walleye/side was very over seasoned. (And the only reason we came was because of the reviews of the walleye). Part of my sister's Salmon was under cooked as well as my sons side. The gentlemen that finished bringing out our entrees actually picked up our dishes after our dinner. Hope never ever came back and asked if we wanted dessert. I worked in fine dining for years. Details matter. Finding out what brings them in, paying attention to your customers, not having them clean their own plates and leaving tables dirty in-between courses matters. Bringing food out at the same time so a family can eat together matters. Serving the celebrated guest first matters. If I'm paying $300 for a nice family meal, I shouldn't be the one working the table. I was appalled by our service. Definitely not a family friendly high quality dining establishment. The only thing that was phenomenal I will say is the feta artichoke dip and chips. But I highly suggest you...
Read moreThis was the worst service my family and I have ever received. Our server Kristen G was inattentive, clueless and lacked any training on hospitality. Not only did we receive slow service, but so did the other tables surrounding us. We were a table of three people and she had two other tables of two people each. They were not busy at all even though it was a Sunday during brunch, yet the waitress took 15 minutes to get to us, and 25 minutes for us to receive our drinks. (all of our drinks were nearly room temperature by the time she brought them to us) Although we ordered drinks and food at the same time, it still took an additional 25 minutes for us to receive our meals. The waitress did not care enough to ask our preference for the sides that accompany the breakfast sandwich and assumed we wanted fries, but she never came back for us to clarify that we wanted breakfast potatoes. After receiving our meals she ignored us for 20 minutes and only came back to offer the checks and then again (surprise) she ignored us and wouldn’t come back to grab the payment. I am not sure if she just wasn’t trained properly or if she lacks basic understanding of the service industry. I really hope the upper management of this business invests more time and resources into making sure their staff is equipped with the correct training and skills to provide a (at least) decent quality of service. I sincerely hope the best for your business in the coming future but we will not...
