I am writing about my recent experience with Dortoni hoping that the management takes what happened seriously. At work we order birthday cakes for each other so I placed an order on Wed Sep 14 at 5pm for my colleague's birthday to pick up on Thur at 6pm. My order was an 8 inch tiramisu, and I asked if they could write happy birthday on it. The person who took my order double checked with their manager, checked the spelling with me, and I paid for the full price over the phone. I went there at 6pm, and asked for my order. Soon afterwards, I could tell something was wrong because the 2 young employees were checking every single fridge... not a good sign. 20 minutes later they brought a cake that was already boxed & taped (usually they confirm before putting it in the box). It was so rushed that I was handed over the cake right by the door. Of course, the box looked small for an 8 inch cake and felt light. I opened the box in my car and went straight back in. The picture I attached is the cake I was given and there was not even any writing on it. First, I wait for 30 minutes for nothing. Second, the employee lets me walk away with a $32 6-inch cake. Third, I am blindly put in a difficult situation: If I did not trust my gut instinct and not open the box right away, how embarrassing would that be at the office? And why am I letting my colleague down when I put an order in advance?! All these aside, I cannot empathize with the young employee for thinking that they got me fooled -as if I wouldn't be able to tell. They have to learn that honesty is the best policy. They should have said "We are very sorry, there has been a mishap, how can we make it up to you?" That's it. I would not be upset or writing these things here. I understand they are young and inexperienced, but this is a great opportunity for them to learn work ethics. There was not another 6-inch tiramisu(?) so they let me pick another 6-inch cake and I ended up leaving at 6.40pm. Sure, now there's enough cake for everyone but you cannot put a price tag on a someone's time and mood. Going to a bakery should be an exciting and happy experience, not stressful.

My now husband and I had our cake made here for our wedding this past saturday as they are the prefered vendor for cakes through Giorgio’s Catering. Now let me tell you, I’m the person who takes one bite of wedding cake and calls it quits because it’s either too sweet or too dry. Our cake was neither. It was so moist and delicious and the fresh strawberries and blueberries in chantilly were so full of flavor and brightness. They nailed the design of our cake and the color of it and even made a miniature vegan version for our guests as well. We were a little put off by the presentation of their cake tasting (there was only 2 small pieces of the two cake flavors we picked to sample the 6 toppings with). And when I called up to finalize the order, after going over it all with one of the girls at our tasting, the girl on the other end told me my cake was a buttercream cake and not a fondant cake (which was incorrect as the girl helping us at the tasting had checked with the manager and was told it would need fondant for the design we wanted). However, I was put at ease when I went in person and the original girl who had helped us out was there and my cake order was placed correctly. Everyone loved the cake and we can’t wait to have it again on our 1 year anniversary!

Let's play a game of which macaron is from dortoni's. two of the raspberry ones are from a frozen stop and shop brand and a frozen target brand, one is from dortonis. The ones in the box are all mixed and you can't tell the difference at all. Dortoni's charges 17 dollars for 12. Stop and shop charges 6.49 for 12. Target charges 6.99 for 12. They all look exactly the same and have the same flavors. So if you are looking for baked-in-shop macarons don't go here. They don't really taste that good either and I don't appreciate being charged triple for macarons that were probably brought in from somewhere else. I wish I would have realized sooner that I could get the same macarons from stop and shop for WAY cheaper instead of giving my money to them. They also charge like 50 cents if you use a card. Who knows what else they order in as a whole sale. I've provided photos so that they don't try and flag me as a "fake" review. Don't go here.

To begin with, I’ve been buying from La Bonne for longer than I am proud of. This will truly be the last time I make that mistake again. Here’s why: I show up to the bakery, pictures in hand as reference, and talk to the girl behind the counter. She reviews my pictures, makes notes, and tells me she will get back to me with prices once she speaks to her boss. I am told everything can be recreated accurately. With that in mind, I wait for pricing.

And wait, and wait, and wait. If you want to know why I won’t ever buy from this awful bakery ever again, here’s reason #1: the boss is a deadbeat. I said it. First of all, you’ll never see this guy in his own bakery, not even for a massive custom order, and probably not even if the Pope showed up himself. He is literally NEVER there, and the rare times he IS there, he will actually physically refuse to emerge from his hovel as though he is actively avoiding his own customers. I’ve never seen a professional business run like this, and that is probably why La Bonne is as far from a professional bakery as you can get.

Back to pricing. The bakery was supposed to contact me when they reached a final quote. Well, they didn’t. I called THEM. When I did, the owner, who was there, refused to speak to me. Instead, he made the practical decision to communicate with me via a 3rd party, AKA the poor sap of an employee who got stuck answering the phone. I spent the next 20 min or so being put on perpetual hold while she told him what I said and he, presumably, twiddled his thumbs before he decided he made me wait long enough for an answer.

So I place my order. Fast forward to the day of pickup and I wish I had never ordered anything to begin with. Nearly everything was a mess. You would think from looking at my order the boss didn’t even look to see if what I asked for could be and instead just said yes to get the sale (which, who am I kidding, he probably did). The miniature cheesecakes I ordered, which were supposed to be a light pink, were a screaming salmon color. It was a color of such grotesque intensity that I didn’t know how any of my guests would dare put it in their mouths. To top it all off, I found out later that day that salmon colored cheesecake doesn’t take like cheesecake. It doesn’t taste like, salmon, either. It tastes like Red Dye 40. Oh, and it doesn’t come with a crust either, apparently.

What La Bonne Boulangeri had the AUDACTY to serve was probably the worst case of “We’re on a budget” that I’ve ever seen. The cream puffs were essentially bread puffs, (you could hardly see the cream), while the jam to cookie ratio was so drastically disproportionate nearly all my guests commented on it. The Éclairs hardly had any cream, too, and when I pointed this out to the staff (who has a case of the major crankies) I was told it looked just peachy to them. Gee, I’m glad you paid close to $300 dollars for it to look good to you, but guess what, you didn’t! And yet not a single “Let me refill those for you” were offered. Instead, I was met by every excuse as to why all the things I didn’t like were actually fine.

When I pointed out that the mini cakes I ordered with elaborate fondant embellishment (priced at $18 dollars a pop) were melting, sloppy, and not decadent enough, I was told it was fine. When I pointed out that my 7 year old niece could have done a better job piping the cream onto the side of the cream puffs, I was told it was fine. When I pointed out that the decorative circles that should have been placed in the MIDDLE of the cream puff were, in fact, sloppily placed on the sides and looked as though they were falling off, I was told it was fine, and it could just be moved. After their excuses they then tried to blame ME. This was probably one of the sloppiest, ugliest orders I’ve ever gotten. In my experience, La Bonne keeps its patronage out of convenience, not loyalty or quality. Unfortunately, it will probably continue to be a blemish on Port Jeff for...

Had a cake made for my daughter's first birthday. Sent pictures specifying exactly what I wanted and it was all written down on the paper. Day of the party they deliver the cakes. One of the tiers was not what it was supposed to be. We call and get a very sympathetic employee who tells us she needs to contact her boss asap. We then get a phone call back a few minutes later by who I would assume to be a manager. This person is blaming us for their mess up and then tells us they are waiving the $150 delivery charge, which mind you was never mentioned at all previously and never even stated on the copy of the cake detail paper so this number just came out of nowhere. My husband says that is not an acceptable answer. They then say they can come and fix the cake so we say great the party starts in 30 minutes and the cake will be served in 2 hours. They then say that they won't make it there before 3 hours they are very busy. My husband asks to speak to the owner and their response was that the owner is too busy. I am sorry but this is not acceptable by any means. We just paid hundreds of dollars on a two tier cake and a smash cake and it is not what we ordered and they are not willing to work with us or give us a little bit of a refund nothing and now we are being ignored when we call back to speak to the owner. I am sorry but this place was recommended to us by my mother who now feels terrible for the lack of responsibility on their mess up we are receiving. I will not be giving them anymore of my business and probably would have given them a second chance if they had a different response other than oh well. I am just disappointed for something that was not our fault when pictures and emails were provided for them with specifics. I hope no-one else encounters this issue but just fair warning if you do that they will probably not help you in anyway and get a run around and ignored like what has happened to us. Edited 9/17/2024: Ok so yes you say you offered to have someone come and fix the mistake and you are right it did not fit my timeline because you wanted to come fix it in 3 hours where my party that was starting in 15 minutes was only 3 hours long... then you say you offered us a gift card for $50 to use in store at any location. I have no desire to revisit your business and give you my money when your employees treat your customers so poorly. I am sure you only heard one side of the 18 year olds story because they do not want to get in trouble. If your phone calls were recorded you would have heard one excuse after the next being told to us as well as the attitude we got from your 18 year old employees. So yes, after being treated that way we have said one curse and that was bulls**t and that was in reference to excuses so if you consider that cursing out an 18 year old than so be it but talking in a stern voice is also not yelling but again you only heard the one sided story. I understand you have been in business for 50 years and you would think within that time you would understand customer service but that does not seem to be the case. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience and instead of making it right and just giving us some money back since we PAID for fondant work that we did not receive (and yes it was mentioned it was expensive because of the fondant details) that is why we asked for money back since a gift card would do us no good we would not being going back. You guys seem to play the victim but it was not your daughters cake that was messed up. If this is how you run a business and allow your employees to give customer attitudes instead of correcting the behavior than shame on you. I will never recommend you guys to anyone and one more thing if you need to BRIBE your customers to give you a positive review for an extra pastry because your rating has now dropped than that to me...

I have had horrible customer service experiences every time that I have visited Dortoni Bakery in Port Jeff in the past year. Dortoni Bakery was the bakery that my wedding venue was contracted with for our wedding cake. Our wedding venue package included a free wedding cake from Dortoni Bakery. In February 2023, my husband and I visited Dortonis of Port Jeff for our cake tasting. When we asked questions about what was included with our wedding venue package, we were told that we would receive a 3 tier cake for our 200 person wedding, and that only chocolate or vanilla cake was included with limited basic filling options. My husband and I ultimately decided that we wanted vanilla cake (included) with custard and fresh strawberry filling (not included) for two tiers, and chocolate cake (included) with chocolate pudding filling (included) for one of the tiers. When we attempted to place this order with the young lady who worked there, she had to frequently “text her boss” to find out how much of an upcharge the fresh strawberries and custard filling would be. There was obviously no set menu or paper that delineated how much each “upgrade” cost, and it seemed that these upcharges were made up on the spot over text by manager. We were ultimately told that it would cost us $450 for the strawberries and custard upgrade, which sounded incredibly odd to me considering that the cake should be included with our venue and we were only upgrading the filling of 2/3 tiers in the cake. We said ok because my husband really wanted the strawberry and custard filling. A few days passed and this still didn’t make sense to me, so I called the Dortoni Levittown location and I was given completely different information. I was told that I should receive a 4 tier cake because that is standard for my wedding venue, not a 3 tier cake. I was also told that the strawberry and custard filling was not an upcharge at all, and that my cake with my current selections should in fact be FREE!! I was so glad that I had called the Levittown location to question the information provided by the Port Jeff location. From that point forward, the Levittown location took over my order but it took me a month to be...
