We went to Joey Z's Zpita last night in Port Jeff, it use to be one of my favorite places for fondue! We had reservations walked in the owner Joey was at the hostess station a mask on down to his chin not covering his nose or mouth figured ok maybe catching his breath, he saw us standing there for a few moments didn't acknowledge us right away we were a party of 4. After maybe 10mins asked if we all four of us were there to pick up food I said no we have a reservation, he went to the dinning area pushed 2 tables together and sat us as I watched a waitress at other tables put down a reserved sign. Now this place is extremely small to start with I know that and don't mind, well we had to many people at this table to be comfortable at but ok it's a small place. The table next to us maybe if 4 inches from us was obviously friends with the owner because that's where he was all night. I understand the restaurant is limited on space but the tables behind us no room for staff to walk by so absolutely NO social distancing here!!!! Not even comfortable distancing. I had to sneeze at one point and was afraid to. Our waitress came over, with menus even though I already explained 3 other times we were there for the cheese and chocolate fondue, she took our drink order ,placed our add ons to the fondue chicken fingers because they are still great there, fries(we had two 16 year olds) steak, and 4 shrimp at 2 dollars a pop. So now we waited an hour for our fondue. Fondue comes out not lit needs to be relit, it was cold along with most everything else. The chicken fingers were still good, I didn't eat the steak my boyfriend did and said it was good. The shrimp were beyond small and hard to the point only 2 of the 4 were eaten we couldn't tell anyone because no one ever came over to see how we were. When you order the fondue it's free refills on the items that come with it, my son wanted more pigs in a blanket after sitting for 20 mins he changed his mind. As I emphasized this place is small but I have known that and before covid never had a problem, last night the amount of times staff bumped into me was insane, my last one was someone elbowed me in the head they had to have felt it and didn't even apologize! After now waiting over 30 mins for our waitress my boyfriend spotted her and asked for the check she said I thought you wanted the chocolate fondue at this point the 2 kids were already outside and we said no thank you paid and left! Will no longer go...
Read moreOrdered online, showed up at correct time. Waited for 40 minutes and through multiple excuses before walking out. When I called from the car home 15 mins later for a refund, I was told to take it up with Seamless and hung up on twice.
I realize that everyone has bad days. (I was having an exceptionally bad day yesterday, following a 5 day power outage that led to many online meals ordered from many other establishments that were nothing but pleasant.) Perhaps yesterday was a bad day for the restaurant, but when you neglect to provide someone’s food, you should not keep someone’s money. Wanting to be refunded on the same day is by no means unreasonable, particularly as there are other posted reviews that reference shady practices with billing and charging.
At no point did the restaurant apologize, and only after we insisted upon a refund, did the person I spoke with offer to deliver the order. Had anyone apologized, taken responsibility, or been even slightly cordial, I would not have written the only negative review I’ve ever posted in my life.
Review has been updated to reflect management’s response. First, we did not “get our refund and get fed” - that’s literally the point of the review. At no point did we receive food from you, and we had to fight through website intermediaries to get our refund. Further, a screenshot has been posted to verify that we did, in fact, use Seamless to order. Again, if the restaurant is listed on Seamless, it is the restaurant’s responsibility to navigate orders that arrive from Seamless. There is no chance that the order could have been scheduled for delivery as we live out of town and had not entered a local address for delivery into the site.
You made several mistakes. You can double down on them, or you can just say you’re sorry and try not to repeat them, like a professional...
Read moreThe food at Joey Z’s was so good I actually came twice in one day. My favorite restaurant in Port Jefferson. Early in the morning I got the Pancake Rollatini. It comes with the largest, fluffiest pancakes you could ever have. Rolled in between are two well seasoned, flavorful sausage links. They also give you a large portion of eggs and home fries on the side. They give so much food. And lots of butter and syrup on the side. No one does potatoes better than Joey Z’s. I actually met Joey Z at the door in the morning and he was very welcoming. The place was extremely busy even very early on Sunday.
I came back for dinner around 7PM. They close at 8 on Sundays, but they even asked if I wanted dessert; I didn’t feel rushed at all. The food was brought out very quickly, and it was the best Greek food I’ve ever had in my life.
They start you out with a serving of Pita and Tzatziki. I got the Gyro Dinner with cuts of meat and lemon potatoes on the side. These were the best potatoes I’ve ever had, truly. And the gyro meat was excellent. I didn’t want to stay too long, so I took most of it home. It was a massive portion. Still tasted phenomenal today.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is by far the best in Port Jefferson. It feels so cozy and intimate. I didn’t feel out of place at all as a solo diner. I love the decor on the walls, pictures of Port Jefferson in the past, amongst other things. I will be coming here everytime I am in Port Jefferson. This is the best restaurant in town. Best food by far....
