I have been looking for a consistent place for Breakfast close to home. I visited Locals for the first time this morning (8/27/16) and have found just the place. I was pleasantly surprised with how well put together Locals is. The Menu, Service, and Decor are top notch at Locals.
My daughter made a comment that I think characterizes the decor in this place well. She said, "Locals decor looks like something you see on Pinterest." I agree!! The place is an Oasis in Port Jefferson. Nothing else is like it for many miles. The industrial decor and creative paintings are well done.
When you first walk in you may think this is a restaurant where you would be seated and served. The setup is similar to the Panera fast casual model. You order at the counter and pay then wait for your food arrive at to your table. It works well, especially since their staff is very friendly and the food is made and served promptly.
I had the Bombay Egg Sandwich. It was delicious!! I did not talk that much during breakfast because I was too busy savoring it. My family had the Channa Masala Wrap and Breakfast Quesadilla. They all had rave reviews for their dishes as well. I am looking forward to trying everything on the menu. We just had Drip Coffee, but it was good. I will go for an espresso next time.

Read moreThree times now this place was one giant letdown.
1- Ordered 3 eggs any style, bacon, country white toast, & home potatoes | Toast hard like rocks, not over toasted just plain old. 2- Ordered 3 eggs any style, bacon, country white toast, & home potatoes; added Avo | Charged for the avocado but didn’t get it. 3- Crispy chicken Sandwich | Roll burnt to a crisp, didn’t know that crispy is for the roll, the picture online indicated otherwise.
We all know times are tough, but making your customers pay full price for stale bread and unable to replace a roll that wasn’t property attended to during preparation shouldn’t be the norm.
On another note, the process for takeout orders could easily be improved: The kitchen staff does not pack takeout orders, it would sit in the kitchen and the kitchen staff would rather go back to browsing on their phone. So, when 5 people are ordering “complex” coffee drinks, you have to wait 10+ min for that be done before the person making the drinks behind the counter go to the kitchen and place the takeout order in a bag and place it on the pickup counter.
I don’t like to do negative posts, hopefully this helps management to coach a little better on bread management.
Tried to make it work with my last order ripping off burnt pieces only to find the bottom burnt...
Read moreYou can learn a great deal about someone, especially a restaurateur, by the ketchups, condiments, and oils they choose. Owner Jitendra scored exceptionally high on my scale for high-quality, health-conscious food in numerous ways.
For starters, his salmon pita is so exceptional that my husband insisted we stop in on our way to the hotel. Despite the kitchen nearing closing time and it being a relatively quiet night, Jitendra graciously agreed to prepare the salmon pita for us. It was beyond delightful—truly unforgettable.
The dish was served with a homemade wasabi-aioli that dripped over the lettuce and tomato on the sturdy, delicious pita. Absolutely fantastic. I eyed the ketchup bottles for our side of French fries, which we ordered in addition to the included coleslaw—a generously portioned, delicious slaw without mayo. Remarkably, the ketchup was Trader Joe's organic, with NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Amazing. This choice alone speaks volumes about the quality of food at this place.
I forgot to ask Jitendra what kind of oil he uses in the fryer—hoping it’s not canola. I’ll update once I find out. However, I suspect he uses a better oil, given the rest of the offerings. Our cashier, Caroline, was lovely and helpful. This will definitely be our go-to spot in...
