This is a true South American fine dining experience from your table as well as the bar. The food was spectacular along with the drinks, atmosphere and decorations.
The menu has been thoughtfully constructed to suit all palettes whether they are sweet, spicy, vegan or all of the above. Our favorites were the Sweet Plantain & Cheese Quesatacos and the Oak-smoked Brisket Tacos although I highly recommend any of the options. The kitchen is excellent and I wish we could have tried them all.
For dessert, we had the Churro sandwiches with Horchata ice cream and they were delicious. Horchata is a perfect ice cream flavor. The Tres Leches Cake was also pleasant although pouring hot milk over it would have made it more interesting.
They have a discerning assortment of smoky mezcals and tequilas. Out of the cocktails, I would highly recommend the Margarita Clasica (Spicy) and La Clara.
The decor is thematically inspired with adobe facades, corn references and straw shades throughout the restaurant to convey some of the roots of their cuisine.
Aside from the restaurant itself, the mall has plenty of activities like indoor go-karting, arcade games, climbing and movies. Coming to Palisades Mall would be an event for your whole family with Carlitos as the culinary jewel. This is a hidden gem in the NYC/NJ area but hopefully not hidden for long!
One suggestion for the management would be to consider dedicating space in the restaurant for regular sports-viewing or set up for viewing bigger sports events on occasion. With events like the Superbowl and the upcoming FIFA World Cup, this might give Yard House proper...
Read moreI wanted to see what this new variation of Carlito’s would be like compared to their Paramus location. Consistent with the quality of the food, the friendliness of their service, and overall value, yet so much more to experience.
The design is beautiful. Simple, yet elegant, with a combination of colors and textures that exude comfort and style. The screen fixture that separates the main dining and bar area from the mall concourse is ideal. Diners feel separate and secluded while allowing those outside to catch tantalizing glimpses into this new space.
The atmosphere is calm and pleasant. The lighting is great, especially compared to many restaurants that make the environment dim and dark. The music is as authentic as the food but it’s not overbearing. We were able to have a conversation and speak with the staff without having to shout.
The menu offers more than their Paramus location. Their appetizers, some varieties of taco, as well as larger plates and desserts are all expanded. Everything we had was excellent. The food was fresh and so satisfying. The variety of quality tequila lives up to their name as a tequileria.
The staff was engaging, knowledgeable, and courteous. They kept attention to our table without being intrusive. Carlito’s provides a unique optiom for the area and a great value this is recommended for anyone seeking a great meal. Overall a heightened dining experience that will...
I went to Carlitos Tequilería on a friend’s recommendation, looking for a place with Mexican spirit to celebrate Cinco de Mayo — and the experience exceeded my expectations. The restaurant has a Mesoamerican-inspired concept and offers a modern, well-executed take on classic Mexican dishes, steering clear of the usual Tex-Mex approach.
My favorites were the birria tacos, the gobernador-style tacos, and the breaded shrimp tacos. You can tell the handmade tortillas make a big difference — they really add that extra something. The carne asada tacos were the only ones I felt were a bit on the dry side, but everything else was great.
I was pleasantly surprised by the extended happy hour, which made it easier to try more tacos at a better price. Tacos were just $10 and margaritas and other cocktails were $7, which I thought was a great deal.
The margaritas were well-made, and the bar itself is spacious and stylish. The Mexican playlist was probably the most authentic I’ve heard in a restaurant — finally, music that actually sounds like Mexico! There’s also a huge screen for watching sports games or major televised events, which adds to the atmosphere.
The esquites were tasty — not quite the way I’d eat them back in Mexico, but still worth trying and well-executed.
It’s located on the fourth floor of the Palisades Mall, making it a convenient spot with a fun, casual vibe, perfect for catching up with friends or going on a date.
I’m not sure I’d go back to try more elaborate dishes, but for tacos, drinks, and a good time, I’d definitely return during happy hour. I wish there were more places like this that genuinely try to offer something authentic and respectful of...
