The reason I give 1 star for the service is because she was really bad :(
For my husband's birthday, we decided to venture beyond our usual favorite, Gyu-Kaku in Westchester, and try something fresh: Gyuzo Japanese Barbecue at the Palisades Mall. We initially made a reservation through Yelp, but unfortunately, it didn't go through. Thankfully, I called ahead, and the friendly hostess saved the day by securing us a table immediately.
Upon arrival, the restaurant wasn't too crowded, but we waited around 15 minutes before anyone greeted us. A gentleman noticed our eye contact, promptly came over, apologized, and took our drink and appetizer orders. Turns out, he was the manager, Andy. His warm introduction and assurance that we'd be well cared for set the tone for a much better experience.
We opted for the "classic set," priced at $58 per person, which includes all the premium meats we love, like melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu steak and perfectly marinated short ribs. The first appetizer to arrive was a short rib taco--flavor-packed and a perfect teaser for the meal ahead. Drinks followed soon after, and despite a few minor mix-ups in our order, the food arrived, and we were too eager (and hungry) to let anything stand in our way.
One disappointing aspect of our visit was the lack of BBQ dipping sauces, a standard offering at most Japanese BBQ spots. While the meat was premium and well-marinated, it could have benefited from flavorful dipping options. Surprisingly, we even had to request soy sauce, which should be a given at a restaurant serving sushi.
There were also some mix-ups with our sashimi order--salmon sashimi was replaced with marinated salmon for grilling, and instead of Ika sashimi, we were given marinated squid. These mistakes were frustrating, but Andy, the attentive manager, helped salvage the experience despite the server's inexperience. If the service improves, this place could be a standout.
As the evening progressed, the service only improved. Andy frequently checked in, making sure we had everything we needed, and his attentiveness really elevated the overall experience.
And the food? Pure indulgence. The Wagyu was buttery and tender, the short ribs richly marinated, and did I mention they throw in a complimentary lobster tail? Unheard of! For $58, the all-you-can-eat menu is a carnivore's dream, giving you 90 minutes to feast on top-quality meats. Though they're still fine-tuning some elements of their service, Gyuzo is well worth the visit for anyone who craves premium Japanese barbecue. Absolutely mouthwatering and definitely worth a try!
Food was VERY good service needs improvement that's the only reason I gave this place a 3 stars...
Read moreHello to anyone curious about this place. Yesterday, my wife and I decided to travel up north FOR MY BIRTHDAY to this place as only two of these restaurants exist. As I walked through the door, I was greeted with kindness and amazing customer service. I told them I had to change the time, and they said no problem. I said to myself, "That's a great start. Loved their pink Christmas tree, by the way. When we got there on time, we were seated, and the atmosphere was already calm and soothing. Maybe because it was a Monday, but I feel on a busy day, you would still get the coziness of this environment. We had been treated with care, and I said the best server I've had on any place. His name was LINH. I have to make it known he's the best. He took care of us as we were ordering. He told us so many things, and his generosity and passion for keeping people happy is phenomenal. He was nice enough to let us keep the cool cups. I don't know if I'm supposed to say anything, but please, I'm glad I did ask because I wanted them. The food was amazing and the best Japanese bbq I've ever had. Everything was perfect. As I got the bill, he asked for my ID because yesterday was my BIRTHDAY. When I saw I was free, but that only depends on what you get since there are 4 different choices for your experience. We chose the casual cheapest one. Still, even with that, you will have an amazing time. It felt so good to see LINH go out of his way to make us happy. I want to thank Gyubo Japanese for an amazing time, and for anyone who wants to have this experience, please go. You will not regret it. I hope you also get LINH because he will make your experience perfect. Thank you so much I will see you again. If anyone needs to remember me, I'm the one with the Sonic the Hedgehog shirt that said ITS...
Read moreThe AYCE essential set ($38) is a very good deal. I think most people would be satisfied with the essential set. Step it up to the classic set ($58) if you want better sushi and sashimi options, as well as unlimited American wagyu top blade; which tastes amazing by the way.
We opted for the premium set ($68) and felt it was well worth the money. You get 1 lobster tail cut up with small butter squares per person. They allow 3 orders per person at a time. So, 2 people can order 6 items at once, 4 people 12 items, etc. and keep it rolling. 1 hour and 30 minute time limit, which is just enough time to order, eat, and chat a bit. Have your mind made up quickly to get the most out of the AYCE options.
Dynamite shrimp, sashimi/sushi assortment, and beef teppan rice were the standout side dishes that we ordered. The cheesecake dessert was mediocre. I only ate half a slice.
The service was great for the 1st half hour to 45 minutes, but quickly declines as it gets busier and becomes a full house. Our waiter and servers were very quick to come with the dishes we ordered, take away dishes, and replace the grill piece, but got much slower as more and more diners showed up. It starts getting very busy at around 6PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so arrive early and/or make reservations. I've past by on weekdays and usually only see a few patrons inside. So if you want the best service and don't like crowded restaurants, come during weekdays.
Incredible restaurant and excellent dining experience. Food is great quality at a reasonable price. My only complaint is that some dishes and sauces were overly salty. We'll definitely be coming back to this restaurant again.
Oh, they automatically charge 20% gratuity, with 22% and 25% options, so be prepared for that...
