The ambiance is rather rough here. I think they slapped a quick coat of paint on and opened the door, no cohesive design of the interior. Many elements still remain from 3-4 business that rented here prior.
We visited on Sunday, the restaurant was far from busy yet still understaffed. About 10 minutes to get water and meet our server. Waitresses attitude was okay but not overly friendly and welcoming (be the face of the business and build relationships) especially for being such a new establishment.
The complimentary bread was by far the least flavorful bread I’ve ever had. My partner and I both laughed and said “tastes like it came from Price Chopper”. For our meals we ordered Chicken Piccata and Chicken Parmigiana. When our food was brought out, one meal was incorrect, they gave us veal not the chicken piccata. Our waitress got us the correct dish immediately and no harm there. The pictures of the food on Yelp, Google, or Facebook are not real, just stock images. The plating was no better looking than going to your grandmothers house. The food was not visually appealing, sloppy and poor execution. The portions were fair but honestly small compared to other restaurants in the area with same pricing. For instance, 13 North in Saratoga, has a massive Chicken Parm, 3 times the size of Sofias for the same price. Even Solevo or Delmonico’s has a larger portion and better execution.
Now to the actual flavor of the food. The Chicken Parm was very hard and chewy, definitely overcooked. The marinara sauce I was indifferent on, I was unable to tell if the sauce was fresh and homemade or canned. It was a small portion of linguine to get a true taste. The Chicken Picatta was good but nothing to write home about.
I only rated this restaurant 2 starts and though I noted the ambience and service, these things can easily be fixed so I excluded them from my stars. I strictly rated our experience at Sofia’s on the food, as recipes are very difficult to change in the restaurant industry. Nothing about our experience has us excited to come back for another experience after all the wrinkles of a new business are ironed out.
If you’re looking for a wonderful dinner out on the town, this isn’t the place. It’s equivalent to any chain restaurant. Certainly not authentic Italian cuisine like I was hoping. The management has some serious hurdles to overcome to make this a viable business. I don’t think they will be there more than a year before closing...
Read moreSofia's, well first time here.So here are my thought's. We heard so many wonderful thoughts on this place so we had to give it a go. When we arrived we were immediately seated in a room of four tables. One for 8 guest, another for 6, and two window seats for two. Our waitress came over and asked what type of water would we like. The water was poured and bread that was supposed to be warm was very much cold and slightly hard. Almost like PC. As time went on we decided to have our selection's ready for the waitress. Our drink selection, appetizer and main meal were ordered all together. And I kid you not, 20 minutes later (Heather) our waitress came back and asked if we we ready to order. First, we asked that the bread be removed and warm fresh bread be brought over. This happened immediately. We placed our full order and our drinks were brought over quickly. About 15 minutes or so our appetizers were brought out. Very delicious by the way. In less the 5 minutes and while still enjoying the appetizer, our main dishes were out and being put on our table. WOW, not what we expected. (we also noticed this happened to the table of 8 and the table of 6. One gentleman was holding his plate of whatever he ordered for a appetizer in his hand and trying to finish while the main meal sat on the table). This is by far a waitress issue. Or is it? To the main course. My guest ordered the Chicken Parm and I the Veal Parm. We were asked what pasta we would like. My guest had the rigatoni and I penne. (little did we know there was a up charge of $2.00 for the pasta added on to a $25.00 and $27.00 meal) Crazy! My veal dish was about as thin as one could imagine. Not to mention the portion size compared to other establishments. The chicken dish the same way. Children's portion size I would say. Dessert. We wanted the "creme brulee" but they were out. Oh, and also out of mussels which was my first choice for a appetizer. The Cannoli was our next choice for dessert. That also was delicious. Sophia's was not overly crowded. But the delay in taking our order, the appetizer and main dish being served right on top of each other was why I gave only 3 stars. (include the bread too).
I don't know how long they will survive in this area. But there are some attention to details that need to be addressed that I did not include in this review.

Read moreAwful we had a party of 6 it was a birthday party we had reservations for 5 forty five and we were advised we needed to go to our table as we were early at the bar to gather with our group. We understood that and did go to the table. Things went downhill fast . We did not ever see a drink menu and we waited 1 hr to get bread. The drinks took forever $15 for a glass of wine is ridiculous and the mixed drinks were awful..Our food came out at 8 pm very small portions the chicken parm was very thin child sie portions ,the penne pasta was cold the portion was so small it was served in what looked like a soup bowl 3 of us had it and all 3 had cold food the chicken marsala was 4 bites and thin . It was 8 pm at this point so we just ate what we could. Had we sent it back we would have been there until close. Getting water took a hr . The tables were very close they did paint it white ,and have a mural and had live music in the bar . The dining area was very close, and noisy .There was no Manager in the dining room asking how things were.We were not offered a dessert menu and it was a birthday celebration. When we left we went elsewhere for a after dinner drink and dessert . There was 1 person at the bar when we left on a Saturday night . We would have stayed for dessert but it was such a disaster .We did advise the waitress thankyou everytime we saw her it was not her fault they were understaffed and a mess.
Our waitress was very good she advised us there was a table of 25 and a few of 6 and we tipped her well it was not her fault the dinner was a disaster . I understand its the first week but this was worse than the Painted Lemon who occupied the building prior to them . Our bill was $400 plus tip .If the food was not ice cold and did not take 2 hrs it would be acceptable it was not , unless they change things they will be the next Painted Lemon. We all felt bad we want them to be sucessful but they need to get their act together .We would all not recommend this place which is a shame its a cute spot. If you want good italian food go to NONNA MARIES where the food is hot the portions are generous the food is delicious and the drinks are reasonable. The waitress Heather was great she did the best she could under circumstances that were not under her control.
Sofias will be the next Painted Lemon sadly if they do not get their...
