I've been in Bronxville for about 3 weeks now and this is, by far, the best meal I've had. The food was pretty damn great, although the dessert (Gateau d'Opera) was odd and bland. The atmosphere is great with the darker setting and live piano music/great singer. This would be a wonderful place to take a date or really for anything from friends to business. Plus it has a great vibe and positive, non-arrogant staff.
The major problem is that the prices seem reasonable for the quality and the neighborhood until you see the portion sizes. The portions are definitely not worth these prices outside of Manhattan and very unreasonable for the neighborhood, becoming almost exorbitant fares. Two small slices of duck breast for $32 is laughable, especially when all you serve it with is some fennel slaw, a amall cooked apple and some onions that should be in a gibson somewhere...all foods the duck ate before it was put on my plate. The service was also lacking. The guys were very nice and tried very hard, but for an upscale place with those prices, they are too forgetful, inattentive and lacking knowledge of the menu.
This place really deserves 3 stars with the prices and service, but it really is far and above what I have experienced from the rest of the neighborhood. If they hired a good, strict manager to guide the waitstaff and lowered their prices (or increased their portions) about 15%, this would be a solid dining experience. Until then, I will have to wait to hit the lottery or I'm craving something on their menu, because this could never be a regular haunt...I'd either be...

Made reservations to visit our old neighborhood for our 23d Anniversary on Saturday, 10/20/18.
Called to confirm they LOST OUR RESERVATION. We made it a week in advance! They told us they had a table regardless. When we arrived we were seated at the WORST table by the restroom in the center of the place HIGH traffic! Not good for an Anniversary dinner.
Our waiter KEVIN must have thought I was Stupid because he KEPT UPSELLING It was beyond ridiculous! Honestly we would have given a much better tip if he backed off in the “ good choice that’s my FAVORITE” REALLY KEVIN ??? Sold me too much over priced PONT L’EVEQUE cheese like there no other option. Ridiculous!! Told me after he served it that I could “ take it home” THE WORST WAS WHEN... Hostess bumped into me several times once ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD without a single APOLOGY!!! The MOMENT I told her i’d complain to the manager, she was SUPER sorry🙄 . “Omg I am so sorry! I didn’t realize” BS I had several waiters and servers walk by with large trays NOT A SINGLE ONE hit me!
Honestly the atmosphere is nice a bit “UPPITY” They could do better with...
Read moreI was visiting New York from Colorado having worked in fine dining in Manhattan years earlier.
Labor Day 9/4/23 my girlfriend and I were seeking a Bronxville restaurant when we stepped into Underhills Crossing. What first popped out was the lovely decor. But within seconds what clinched the place was being greeted by bartender/server Adam. I spotted immediately that this gentleman knew all about gracious hospitality and that we'd be in good hands.
The food is fabulous. The ambiance is great. But to be greeted as if we were old friends is rare.
In addition to being attentive to service, Adam was enthusiastic about his food descriptions. My friend and I had a wonderful time! So much so that the next day when I was on my own, I checked to see if Adam was working and took a taxi back to the restaurant to have my last day out on the east coast before flying back to Colorado. Again, I enjoyed the experience immensely.
I so wish we had Underhills Crossing in Fort Collins -- I'd be first in line to dine there (and locally, I'd tell the world about this fine restaurant) -- hands down, the best meal I've...
