George Martin The Original — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I don't know where to start. First Suzanne was super patient with me on the phone. I had a birthday dinner of originally 13 which dropped to about 11. I made probably 2 adjustments on the reservation and called the day before and the day of and they knew who I was right away. It showed that they are organized and efficient, they didn't have to go searching or asking for a reminder of my reservation. I was running late for my reservation I called and spoke to John I believe who was super nice and made the adjustment to my reservation. I was greeted by Kristen who was nothing, I mean NOTHING short of amazing. She was super sweet, attentive, quick, efficient, and she engaged with the party well . I had one guess come late, the kitchen was closing and Kristen still offered if she wanted anything to go or at least a glass of wine. Kristen really contributed tremendously to my birthday. She greeted us with a smile from we all walked in and until we left. Kristen is a true gem and I was super lucky to have her help us on my birthday. Thank you Kristen! I, as well as my dinner guests appreciate your hard work!

Oh and the food is good, great portions big enough to take home and eat for dinner the next day. My dinner party loved the crab cakes, the calamari was good ( tad bit salty) but it is big enough to share and comes with 3 different sauces for everyone preference. I had the 12 Oz steak with the Creamed Spinach which was soooo good and even better the next day. The drinks are mixed well doesn't matter if you like it neat or on the rocks.

As much as people say this is a good NYC steakhouse on Long Island, don't believe it. NYC Steakhouses don't run out of food, especially the entrees they are known for! We went to dinner last night with 6 people and it was absolutely a horrible dining experience. We had a 8PM reservation and at 8:25PM they told us if we wait 10 more minutes, we can get a better table. 45 minutes later they finally sat us at a table which was tight for 6. Then 15 minutes later, we were greeted by our waiter who told us they are out of mashed potatoes and shell steak. Hard to believe a steakhouse can run out of mashed potatoes and steak. An hour later we finally got our appetizers but, right before our dinner order arrived, our waiter told us they ran out of baked potatoes. So we had to change our order again. Then after dinner, we ordered desserts and the waiter sent over the manager to tell us the desserts we ordered we sold out. We were livid at this point because we bought my daughter's future in-laws and had told them this place was good but they too agreed it was a horrible experience. Overall, during the entire time we were at George Martin's, we felt like outsiders. The dining experience did not live up to the high rating for this restaurant. So be careful if you go to George Martin's, especially if not a regular or with a group of more than 4. You are bound to be seated late and could end up finding the entree you want...

We were there for a holiday office party lunch. Dark in there. We had to ask for the lights to be turned up a little because we couldn't see the menu to read it. Busboy was great. Food was great. Server not so great. She seemed to not want to be bothered with our large group and even had to audacity to be rude and snotty and even walked away before everyone was done ordering their coffee/tea/dessert part of the meal. When someone said something to her when she came back about some of us not possibly being able to hear her and didnt realize she was taking the dessert order, we got more attitude. When she came back again with the rest of what was ordered she had to make a dig saying, "I just want to make sure everyone hears me, you know since I talk too low for some of you". Honestly, that's just frakking insane to say that to the people you are serving. I know that having to work a large table is a problem for some servers, so maybe those servers should ask someone else to cover their tables. We were nice, polite, and yet were treated in a way that it was quite noticable that the server was just not in the mood. I personally wont be back after the way we were treated.
