I love to get my hands on a gyro at any chance I can, and Spartan Grill's offerings do not leave me disappointed! Their novel Lamb and Beef Gyro offers an extra spin on a Mediterranean classic's standard fixings, with the added inclusion of classic fries inside the gyro itself! Said fries are crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, allowing for a homey mouthfeel with a ever so sneaky zesty tang that I can only attribute to them soaking in vinegar pre-frying (so you know its fresh~) Should you not be a fan of lamb and/or beef, there is a great many option available including but not limited to chicken and crispy fish; the latter being an option i hope to someday treat my grandmother to, who due to health complications has to adhere to a strict pescatarian diet. But don't assume that Gyros is the only thing they have to offer! from freshly battered chicken tenders resting on a bed of either fries or a waffle (a classic combo), to the underrated skewered "souvlaki " meats, down to even empanadas (a nostalgic treat for me personally). From speaking to the friendly owner of the eatery, said empanadas are made from breaking apart the meat off the spit from the end of the day, ready to be served in a crispy and flaky pastry shell for the next day's lunch; a resourceful and hygienic habit that ensures no foodstuffs go to waste! Should you crave something sweet with your meal, they supply a freshly baked pistachio baklava for an airy honey soaked treat! The only notes I have for the business would be concerns of its slightly greater than negligible wait time depending on what you order. But that's often due to me usually stopping by during dinner hours. Otherwise, Expect a generous variety of great foods and a friendly staff more than happy to answer your questions about the establishment, all thanks to its Greek-born founder and the wonderful staff...
Read moreOn the hunt for great Greek spots outside of Astoria, Queens (the Greek community there keeps the love thriving). Came upon the place and walking in I loved it; it was very clean. The menu had a decent variety, not overwhelming, they also had spanish meal influnces on the menu (cute) and I love that I was able to "tap to pay". All foods and pastries were made on site which is awesome, and loved how we were able to share our 2 cents on the Baklava we had and they took it and asked us more questions to learn more. I love places like this where everyone is eager to learn MORE. 🥰 Staff was truly welcoming. Food was cooked to perfection for sure and the flavor is subtle and not overbearing. They also offer you extra salt and pepper if you need to and if you know Tzatziki, ask for that to put that on everything and it'll top off the meal. I scarffed my Yeero down before a pic was taken, with my sides of Tzatziki, but you get the point in the pics I was able to take. Service was fast, I ordered a lot (2 tacos (pictured), 4 yeero, sodas, 1 pork souvlaki (pictured), big bowls of Tzatziki, 2 servings of Baklava) so that means something. Thank you guys! We'll be stopping by to try the 2-4...
Read moreGreat food- fresh salad & chicken spit/char-grilled with rice and pita bread with sauce. Nice portions, you won't leave hungry!
Atmosphere- an upper scale for take-out. For those sitting in, it's a combination of self-serve and restaurant service. The customer service was stellar. There was a check- in on the satisfaction of the food, and there was no pressure to hurry eating and leave. Very clean establishment with Spartan armor decor on the wall...Great conversational pieces.
The location of the restaurant is well-traveled with both foot and vehicle traffic. Small eating area but clearly outlined with coffee brewed and all the condiments that may be necessary to enjoy the meal nearby. Clean tables, chairs, and floor.
A great find not too far off the Queens/Nassau border to catch up with a "bestie" for a long, overdue lunch!
Thank you,...
