I have been to this restaurant six times. I enjoy the ambiance and have always found fine service. The place is clean and comfortable. The first time I was here my expectations were raised because this is a step up from the average Asian restaurant in decor and price. I ordered vegetarian hot and sour soup. I have found it decreased in taste and substance in the years since Sichuan restaurants first appeared, but here it was flavorful and dense with delicious ingredients.
I love Kung Pao chicken and have often been disappointed by it elsewhere. Here, it was flavorful and ample, but best of all it was what they call "Wok and Grill," the chicken was grilled and seared which gave it an extra layer of flavor. The kick was supplied by many whole chili peppers, which I could ignore or incorporate depending on my desire for heat. One time I optimistically tried Asian Grilled Chicken, and couldn't believe it was a bland mix of nearly tasteless chicken and watery vegetables. My wife's favorite is the Tamarind Chicken and crispy spinach, a sweet but complex dish of which I am always eager to steal a taste. My daughter once got sushi, which she found merely satisfactory. I can't list the dishes, but the seven other people who have accompanied me here all enjoyed their meals and commented so.
I wrote the above in 2019, and I feel the review needs an update. The food and service are still very good. The hot and sour soup is exceptional. So is the Kung Pao. General's chicken is delicious, and their chow fun is unusually complex with tender pork. However, recently one member of our party of four was served his dish forty minutes after the rest of us, despite our repeated requests and reminders. My wife recently ordered the wonton soup at lunch and was served a flavorless broth with a few greens and HALF OF A WONTON. Completely unacceptable, especially as the rest of us enjoyed our wonderful hot...
Read moreon 7/26/23 i was going west, towards brooklyn on sunrise hwy in nassau. i was hungry, i saw the restaurant wild ginger at 424 sunrise hwy rockville centre. from dinning at the one in manhattan, i believed this to be of the same caliber. i stopped and went in. i asked for take out and for what was not on the menu, spicey string beans, chicken, beef and shrimp. i informed them 4 times i have food allergies to carrots, corn and almonds. he assured me everything was fine. everyone was friendly and polite. the meal was ready extremely fast. (by the time i went to the restroom and came out the meal was ready.) i was amazed the swiftness and i showed this by giving them a tip which the take-out patron refused. he eventually took half of the tip and gave it to another waiter. i was brought the food and i opened the bag to check to see if any corn carrots and almonds were in there. the take-out patron said it wasn't necessary. everything was good and to enjoy my meal. he also said if i was dinning in the restaurant i would fancy the meal even better. i got back home, opened the bag and there were 2 dishes. a dish that was full of carrots and the other carrot free of which i partially ate. it tasted like it was just taken out of the refrigerator and not fully heated. even though the food was warm, it still had a refrigerator taste to it. due to my final destination being so far away from the restaurant, i had to throw away almost $40.00 worth of food (including the partial tip)... because of that.... i give wild ginger - 1 star for health.. if i wasn't conscious about my health and check the food, i would be in the hospital with a swollen throat unable to breath. -1 star... for the refrigerator taste overshadowing the taste of the food. included in this review is a photo of the receipt and the take-out food...
Read moreand overall it was ok time but the food quality was very bad. Firstly we ordered soup and it tasted burnt so we called the waitress and told her she ended up calling the manager and he came. He would not agree that it was hurt to and said we make this kind of soup only and it’s made in the morning and no one complained so far. Anyways he took it backAnd we ordered something else. Vegetable friend rice came and it was white rice with peas and little vegetables in it. Asked him again that y the color is not like a fried vege rice he said this how we make it…..he kept on arguing so we all said forget it. Later we ordered entrées and when we were eating and my friend picked one dish to take from it she saw a metal thing in the dish. There was this peice steel wool in the dish. We called the manage one more time and he said oh sorry may be when they were cleaning this must have been left there. My question was to him it is health hazard if a kid without seeing would have just eater this what wud have happen…….he said oh sorry by mistake it was there. Took it back and we didn’t wanted anything else. He took out that dish from The bill as we returned it without even touching it. He said we made so much fuss that the next time we go there waitress might refuse to serve us. It was not a gd comment instead of apologising and owning up to all the mistakes he argued. Attaching a photo that was gound in the dish. Wanted to complain with health dept but giving them a second chance to improve the management skills and owning up to their mistakes instead of arguing that this is how it’s made this is how everyone ate...
