By far my favorite comic book store on Long Island! I do mean comic books. You'll find some other comics-related merchandise, but the focus is certainly on comics. I can go in and talk comics for hours with Menachem, while finding a lot of great titles of mainstream and non-mainstream comics to enjoy reading. Menachem has a great track record for finding titles that will be enjoyed by almost anyone, so if you need recommendations, just ask.

There is a range of prices depending on sales and specials, if one is a hold list customer, as well as super affordable back issues at only a dollar a piece. There is some great pop art for sale as well, often from local creators, making Escape Pod a vital part of the local arts community.

Fantastic special events have been held at the store, signings, lectures, Free Comic Book Day (with so much available still long after that day, if this isn't your primary store). Menachem is in touch with so many creators in the comics industry, via social media as well as a few who are local, so he gets some great guests to sign at the shop, along with some exclusive items here and there.

If you value reading comics over "collecting" them, then this is definitely the place for you. It's also something of a family business, with members of Menachem's family contributing to some amazing window displays.

Yeah, the store is closed Friday evenings and Saturdays for religious reasons (some things are more important than capitalism, folks), but has extensive hours all the other days of the week. I've lived in five states, sometimes in major cities, and you don't find many shops open past seven at night, even on Wednesdays. At Escape Pod, you can often shop and talk shop until nine at night.

Menachem is an incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly guy, and his store is the best resource on the island for comics and graphic novels. My partner and I visit here often and he always remembers us and recommends great new selections based on our interests and previous purchases. The store is very small, but densely and diversely stocked, and you can spend hours looking at various selections from all different genres and forms. Super kid friendly environment, and a reliable safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Menachem knows more about comics than any other human I can think of, and reads like a man possessed. He is also open to selling one's self-published comics or zines if you ask him, making him an invaluable connection for local artists. A fair seller, and frequently has unbeatable sales too! Definitely my favorite spot for new and obscure comic books! Highly recommend...

I hopped by for a half hour yesterday.

The fact that the owner is so knowledgeable, friendly, and kind is what sets this store apart from any other shop on Long Island. I walked into the store and he was able to give me some wonderful recommendations. While I was making my purchase we had an amazing conversation about comics we had read and the comics industry and I was just so unbelievably happy. I don't really know a lot of people who read comics, let alone the stories I've been getting into.
