I'm compelled to share this review in order to caution perspective diners who may consider selecting Meehan's as their choice of restaurants while visiting Huntington village. My wife and I had decided to stop in for lunch after doing some shopping as we like to help local businesses when possible so we enjoy the smaller mom and pop stores that can be found throughout.
While we're frequent visitors to the town and live nearby, we try making a day of it and usually grabbing a bite to eat. I ordered a typical Reuben sandwich and my wife had the tossed salad with chicken. The meal itself was satisfactory though ordinary and the service was pleasant right up until the check arrived.
Nowhere on their menu was there any mention of draft beer or price's and the waitress was unfamiliar with the selection available. We ordered a pitcher of Budweiser Light assuming it would be common enough to ensure it was likely on tap. We ordered a second pitcher afterward and when finished asked for the bill.
It wasn't until I had a closer look that I saw they were charging us $32.00 per pitcher for a total of $64.00 for the two. Being the charge was more than half the bill, my immediate thought was they had made a mistake so I called the waitress back over to question the calculation. She assured me there wasn't a mistake and that was the price so naturally I asked to speak with her manager to verify.
Please understand, when we go out to five star restaurants and Michelin rated establishments, bistro's and culinary institutions, we expect to pay the premium’s that customarily coincide with that grade of quality and service. It's expected however, when we stopped at what basically is an Irish pub (which I gravitate towards on many occasions), I don't anticipate this kind of exploitation and attitude as displayed by the manager who condescendingly suggested we don’t normally serve customers who question the bill and took umbrage that we had the audacity to even ask.
I felt we were victims of a deceptive practice and then gas lighted for questioning the integrity of the pricing strategy that charges the price of a keg for two pitchers of beer in what is essentially an overblown...
Read moreWhat was supposed to be a nice quiet night at dinner turned into a nightmare. My husband and I have been here before, we love the atmosphere for watching football and good food. We started with dinner for the 2 of us. That went well, service was good and had no complaints on food. Shortly after that we paid our server and moved to the bar area as we were meeting a friend for a drink. The bartender failed to mention it was last call for food orders so he went hungry. Service was subpar as there were hardly any people sitting at the bar. Then a highly intoxicated man entered the bar area. He made everyone at the bar extremely uncomfortable as he was slurring and very belligerent. When he was asked to give me space, he began threatening me and my husband. The bartender asked him to leave and we felt that would be the end of it. She then told us the manager was requesting us to pay and leave as well. I asked to speak to the manager (whom wasn't present at all) at least 3 times. The bartender disregarded any request and became extremely dismissive of any request to discuss why we were being asked to leave. We weren't the cause of any conflict, nor did we engage with the intoxicated individual after she pushed him out. The whole ordeal was very unprofessional and it was more concerning that she would tell us to leave immediately after kicking someone out who just threatened us. I felt if we were given the chance to explain to a manager, the night would have ended much differently. Regardless to say, we will not be back and will never recommend this...
Read moreService was excellent. The waitress was excellent, manager who checked in on the table was very nice as was the waiter who brought out the food and also cleared the table.
The food itself was another story. Pretzel appetizer which was $11 I believe and consisted of two tiny pretzels. It was actually comical how small it was. Putting them together they wouldn’t even equal 1/2 to 3/4 the size of a pretzel you get at a ballpark or street vendor. Ordered fish & chips and a steak fajita. Fish was absolutely overcooked. The skin was visibly overcooked and beyond crispy and had no taste. The French fries were basically a baked potato cut length wise into 4 long thick spears. They had zero taste other than the side that still had the potato skin on it tasting like a burnt baked potato straight out of the oven.
The steak fajita came only with salsa which tasted exactly like jarred salsa from the supermarket, guacamole and sour cream on the side. Steak plate was served with peppers and onions. No lettuce, No cheese, No rice and beans came with it. It didn’t seem like an oversight but definitely strange because everywhere else you order a fajita you get additional stuff. Steak flavor was off and I’m not sure what they were going for. All you could taste was ginger and you could smell it also from across the table.
I haven’t been to Meehans in probably over a year, but the numerous previous visits the food was very good. We were the only ones eating dinner in the restaurant since it was 5:30pm so I can’t even make the excuse that maybe the kitchen...
