Strangest experience dining out. We walked in and were greeted by a man in regular clothes ( plaid shirt and jeans) whom was seated at the bar along with a waiter in uniform at the host stand right next to the bar. The waiter asked if we had reservations to which we replied yes and gave our name. The man in regular clothes introduced himself as “one of the owners” and let us know about a special they had going on for “industry night” that night only which if you ordered an alcoholic drink from a specific menu those wouldn’t be charged to your bill. I asked the man if he was being serious to which he replied yes so we ordered a drink each. Around halfway through our meal he came by to check on us and asked if we liked the drinks to which we replied yes. During that time he told us we could order as much as we want from that specific menu and that we weren’t limited to 1 drink. We only ordered 1 per person and then 1 drink per person from the regular menu as we still wanted to support a small business. However when the bill came the “free” drinks were on the bill at full price. I am not sure why he would lie straight to our faces for no reason other than to make more money off our bill. We both wouldn’t have ordered those drinks and instead ordered something we actually liked had we known we were going to pay full price anyway. Got a steak covered in gold we didn’t enjoy my fiancé cooks for a living and said it seemed boiled. Tacos were ok kind of cold. The appetizers were the best part of that says anything. We absolutely did not appreciate being lied to and hope this does not happen to any other customer and would not recommend this to anyone else nor will we...
Read moreCute little spot reservations are a must considering space itself. Weekend evening dj house techno great for anyone celebrating to be seated inside we opted for outside to hear one another over dinner. Waited 44 min for a cocktail but they were busy so it’s understandable and if you order a premium cocktail it does take time to handcraft also understandable. The Bitcoin wasn’t all that great tbh tasted like a watered down ice cube . The waitress was nice enough to bring over a sample drink in shot glasses to comp for the wait . Personally it tasted better than the Bitcoin cocktail so we ordered a few as a cocktail itself. We were told they were working on putting it on their menu but we have a pic should you want to order . The manager came over was very nice super humble in our opinion. The burger was super juicy and tasty. Empanadas were ok a little on the light side . The experience itself was nice but nothing out of this world . The premium cocktails for the experience was fun with aromatics but the non premium ones tasted better personally. Make sure you reserve ahead of time be prepared to wait a bit and try your luck earlier rather than later in the eve, Nonetheless experience itself was fun but not enough that we’d return. Roughly 40$ cocktails 40$ burgers and reservations should be scheduled early. For desert the backlava was huge and tasty best bang for your buck there. Sadly no non dairy options on deserts. In conclusion if you can’t make it to nyc for handcrafted cocktails try your luck here. Staffing is difficult in these crazy times completely understandable. Would love to see this place do great in this...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place that is brings a little bit of Miami vibe mixed with a little Manhattan vibe then come to Mamaroneck! As a girl who grew up in NYC, the prices are on par with what you would see in Manhattan, which if that was their goal with this establishment, they nailed it. The vibe is fun and livens up the area. My husband and I enjoyed the drinks and the food we had. We met the mixologist, Brian who was brought in by Mike to develop the drink menu, and it adds something special that you won't find anywhere else - we tried Tequila Twilight and the Dancing Lady. For food, we had the cheese steak quesadilla, tacos, burrata app and crab cakes and enjoyed all of it.
I'm seeing some really negative reviews, which saddens me. First let me say, I am not related nor employed by the establishment - I'm a local who has seen the Village and the Avenue metamorphose over the last 5 years. Barquila is barely a month old, so yes there will be kinks with scheduling and the food that will be worked out... I don't know of a single restaurant that had everything perfect right out the gate. Additionally keep in mind that State restrictions are being lifted slowly, even moreso here due to the VoM ordinances.
Crawling out of such a tough year, I hope everyone treats others with a little bit of kindness (which includes restaurants and staff in said establishments) and give Barquila a shot. It really is a fun place with good food, good drinks, cool vibe and a fresh face in the Village. I know my husband and I will be making our reservations to go back...
