Choose your own adventure:
If with a group of 2-3 people, or more (see Part 1). If on your own, (see Part 2).
Part 1: Go to PopUp Bagels -- If you are a group of 3 people looking to go for a bagel someplace that is new, fresh, and has a novel twist on the standard NY bagel shop, this is a fantastic place. The bagels always come out warm and fresh, they taste great (not exactly like a classic NY bagel), and there are a variety of very unique spreads to choose from. Caveat: what's interesting about these bagels is that your first bite is the best bite...as the heat and softness dissipates, each subsequent bite gets a little worse. So its like eating a bowl of frosted flakes in milk and you are racing to eat the last bite before all the flakes get soggy. I wouldn't recommend buying these and bringing them home to eat later.
Part 2: Skip Pop-up Bagels and go to your regular bagel shop. If you are a person who is usually picking up a single bagel and coffee on the way to work or in-between errands, this place is not for you. Here is why. (1) you are forced to buy 3 bagels and a tub of spread with the associated costs, and (2) they don't put the spread on the bagel for you (how do you eat this in your car?), and (3) if you go at the wrong time, you will encounter very long lines with a...
Read moreI was wary of the hype but decided to try Pop Up Bagels. Now you should know that I'm a huge fan of bagels. My doctor wouldn't be happy to hear, but I usually have a couple of bagels a week. My favorite (and go-to) is always a nicely toasted everything bagel with cream cheese.
I arrived, and there was a long line outside, but it actually moved pretty quickly. There's a minimum of three bagel per order, so I decided to get the everything, the salt, and the plain bagel. Also decided to get the pickle cream cheese and the hotel butter. You have to buy the schmear in a small container since they don't spread it to your bagel.
The place was very crowded, so I ate my bagels in my car. I can truly say that these were some of the best bagels that I've ever had! They were hot and very soft. The pickle cream cheese was the perfect combination with the everything bagel.
I'm salivating while writing this review and I'm already planning on...
Read moreI’ve been to the Greenwich location twice and am a big fan. Happy to see them open up in Roslyn as it’s way closer to home. The bagels are truly special but unfortunately the first experience here was weird. I don’t understand how you can run out of the specialty shmears. It’s a weekly offering and I prepaid the night before. To show up and be told oh we ran out of the specialty cream cheese just threw me off. I honestly didn’t even know it was possible. It was early morning 12/30 when it’s supposed to be available through 12/31. It gave lazy expansion vibes. All good though, its the holidays and the scallion cream cheese is great but definitely misleading and not cool. Should probably offer something to customers that don’t get what they ordered. Will try again soon and just go earlier in the...
