Cosimo's Brick Oven — Restaurant in Town of Wallkill

The food and atmosphere get 5 stars all day long. Even if something isn’t the best, it’s far superior than any other “Italian” restaurant out there.

My review isn’t for the food. Or the service. Everyone is usually wonderful at all Cosimo’s locations, including Middletown.

My review is specifically for the reservation platform. My family has been frequenting Cosimo’s for as long as I’ve been alive. Birthdays? Cosimo’s. Baptisms? Cosimo’s. Funerals? Cosimo’s. Retirements, family gatherings, and so on.

Tonight I had called to make a reservation and was informed it was only first come first serve and I couldn’t. I get it. It’s a busy place. It’s a weekend. I respect it. However there are some cases where this rule is unacceptable.

Tonight my daughter really wanted calamari. Cosimo’s is her favorite place. So I took my daughter and sister out, trying to have a nice dinner for both of them after a 12 hour workday (spent mostly outside in the cold to add to my frustration). My sister is a cancer survivor, and had just had major reconstructive surgery a few weeks ago. She can only eat liquid or very soft foods. Cosimo’s has the best of both.

We were told the wait would be 45 minutes. We gambled and decided to stick it out. I was trying not to pull the sick person card to get a reservation, so we waited. 45 minutes go by. Multiple tables of 2 or 4 (I know we were 3) and even larger parties who came in after we had gotten there had been seated before us. Again trying not to be a jerk about it. I just tried to point it out while hiding my frustration. I was told we would be seated next. Annoying, but fine. I get it.

As I head back to my sister and daughter, I could see in my sister’s face she was uncomfortable. She told me she was about to pass out. I had walked her outside to the bench so she could cool down and hopefully let it pass. It didn’t. I had to get her home before she passed out in public when I only had my 10 year old daughter there to help me.

None of this is directly the staff or the restaurants fault. However at the same time it’s obvious she was sick. My frustration wasn’t towards them. It’s the first come first serve mindset which I will normally HAPPILY wait for as I do at their other restaurants often. But in some cases, and I especially learned today, it doesn’t work for everyone. Options in this case were limited. My daughter wanted to eat at her favorite restaurant. All I wanted to do was to make a reservation to avoid this exact incident. If nothing else comes out of this review, I hope at least they consider changing their policy on...

I went to a birthday dinner with family and this place was nice for a large party of 11. They seated us when enough of the party arrived, and the server started working on drink orders soon after. I'm not sure if she just had a lot going on or what but she was missing most of the night. Someone always needed her to a drink refill or something else and she just didn't seem to be available for a while. On to the food... I had never been here so I was open to whatever... I chose the Harvest Salad.. and let me tell you something.. it was on point.. It had apples, cranberries, walnuts, feta cheese ( I took that off ) Radicchio, romaine lettuce and black currant vinaigrette. I love a good vinaigrette, so this was right up my alley. I didn't know what to expects but this salad was just enough sweet and sour to hit the taste buds right. They served complimentary bread, but I didn't have any. Everyone at the table seemed to love it dipped in oil. The star of the night for me was what my fiend ordered. she had a broccoli pie. First off, I never heard of that.. but it looked so good I had to try it and boy oh boy... that was yummy.. I wished I had ordered that instead of my salad. This broccoli pizza had broccoli florets, roasted garlic, mozzarella and herbed ricotta cheese. OMG my mouth is watering now just thinking about how good that pizza was... I need to go back and order one! The restaurant was kind enough to allow us to bring in our own birthday cake and even cut it and served it for the guests. Very nice and we were very appreciative of their hospitality. I highly recommend this place. the food was great, and prices...
