As I shuffled through the front doors of Buffalo Wild Wings in Middletown, NY, a familiar sense of anticipation washed over me. You see, I have this love-hate relationship with BWW. I adore their wings, but more often than not, I find myself nursing a mild heartache over something that went awry during my visits.
The previous debacle at the Secaucus, NJ, location was still fresh in my mind. That place... let's just say it's not exactly my slice of heaven. Yet, here I was, driven by an insatiable craving for those crispy, saucy wings that I can't seem to quit.
Dragging along my family ā the wife and the kiddos ā seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, Santa had just stood us up at the mall. "Dad's going to make it up to you," I had promised with a wink.
The Middletown BWW, to my surprise, wasn't half bad. It was early on a Saturday, the world still rubbing sleep from its eyes, and the place was comfortably quiet. A stark contrast to the usual hustle and noise of New Jersey's outlets. I settled into the booth, feeling a cautious optimism.
Then came the wait for our waitress. Tick-tock, tick-tock. With two restless kids, every second feels like an eternity. "Come on, BWW, don't do this to me," I muttered under my breath. Thankfully, once our order was taken, things smoothed out. The utensils arrived on time ā a small victory, but Iāll take what I can get.
Now, let's talk about those boneless wings. I'm a simple guy. I like my wings crispy, with just the right amount of sauce. But these were drowning in it. "Less swimming, more flying," I joked, trying to mask my disappointment. The buy-one-get-one deal was a nice touch, sure. But I'd happily fork over a few more bucks for wings that hit the spot just right.
The place had a calm vibe, which I appreciated. No blaring TVs or rowdy crowds. Just a mid-day lull that let me enjoy my meal in peace.
In the end, the experience was... okay. Better than what I'm used to in Jersey. I'll probably come back here with my son, but only when the wing craving hits hard and I can't talk myself out of it. There's this part of me that knows there are better joints out there, places that'll treat me and my taste buds right. But for now, BWW, you've got me. Disappointed but still coming...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo start things me and 5 friends showed up to this bdubs at around 7:15 and it looked a little busy. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be sat which was expected. Our waiter CORY came and said heād be back in a minute and we waited another 10 minutes till he took our drink order. 20 minute wait till another server brought our drinks. Then CORY came and took our order and apologized. Time went on and we saw 3 tables sit order their food, get their food, eat their food and we still had no food. CORY hadnāt came back to us this whole time and we had no drinks left and weāre starving. We asked other workers and could tell Cory was busy but it was taking way too long. By now it was 9 oāclock so about an hour since we ordered. Another waiter brought our food out at 9:30 and right away we asked for the check and some boxes respectfully. We were very respectful this whole time but obviously a little mad but the food was there so we ate. It wasnāt great but we were all hungry. That check and boxes I asked for hadnāt come back yet and I had to ask CORY again. We paid and asked Cory what happened and he began to gaslight us tryna say nothing was wrong and the kitchen was backed up. I used to be a waiter and I know an order shouldnāt take that long especially cause other people who sat were eating and leaving while we waited 2 + hours. We tipped still like 10 dollars which in my opinion was way to much and left respectfully. Cory brought us our tip back out and said we forgot our changeš. I usually donāt get mad at this typa thing but it was just crazy he was lying and getting mad at us when we were respectful and the comments were 100% justifiable I think. Costumers gotta know if the order never went in so they can leave if they donāt want to wait. CORY NEEDS A...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe restaurant is a large, high-ceiling, open space with booths along the walls/perimeter and tables in the center of the room.
Menu options are typical pub grub, with the exceptional factor being the wings. The variety of dry rub and sauce flavors means that there should be something for everyone, as the options vary the heat and sweet. Boneless is a good way to go to keep clean and get more bang for your buck, but that's a personal preference. Order small plates for each person, or large orders to share among everyone. *Be aware that ordering larger amounts of a variety of wings can be done with each flavor sampled in groups of 5. This is helpful, but also makes it difficult to tell which wings are which on the large platter (the sticker system of identification is not effective and even the most seasoned of wait staff cannot correctly identify the wrong variety on the plate with 100% accuracy.
Other menu items are "okay", but portion sizes vary: a large side of fries is a good amount, but the fries that come with a burger are too few. Nachos feed plenty and have a good presentation, whereas other food is slopped onto a platter and sent out, as-is. The lack of a designated kids menu was not helpful, either.
The servers are friendly and helpful, making the ordering experience pleasant. They check in on the table a few times, though we found it was a bit long between visits and the infrequency was not helpful for getting refills on drinks or ordering additional food when desired.
Overall, you know what you're getting if you want to hang with a small or larger group to watch sports on the plethora of TVs flanking every wall in a large open space. Definitely not the atmosphere you see on the BWW commercials, but the wings are redemptive for...
