Ya know, I've never had Korean chicken before. I've heard lots about it, and stumbled in here today when the sushi spot I wanted to try was closed.
Walking in, the place is well decorated and has a fast casual atmosphere. There's seating but not a ton. Fine. I tried to review the menu and noticed they have a variety of items to choose from. Chicken sandwiches, tacos, and of course, chicken wings. The lady behind the counter helped me out and showed me the daily lunch specials which caught my eye. They actually seemed like a good idea so I went ahead and ordered the 8 piece boneless chicken wings with a side of coleslaw and a drink.
While I was waiting for my food, I went to the drink station for a beverage and saw they had my new favorite pop, Stubborn products! But they were out of the vanilla flavored one. BOO. They were also out of another drink as well. It was literally down to Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Stubborn Root Beer. Since I cannot stand Pepsi products, I went with the root beer. Not bad! I think they also had a station for fresh brewed iced tea, but it was empty. Yet another boo hiss.
My food eventually came out and it was actually really good! You can use chop sticks or forks and knives, as they provide both here. I did ask for a side of ranch to go with it which was great.
Overall a really great experience and I would gladly dine here again. I want to try the tacos and chicken sandwich, so that's on my short list of things...
Read moreAfter reading so many great reviews about the made to order, double fried chicken- we were here in Troy, as first timers at 12:19 today. There was one customer waiting to order ahead of us and the cashier was on the phone. There were 3 other employees in the back all standing or sitting in view of the service window.
We ordered the drumstick meal with Korean BBQ sauce and fries. We also ordered the boneless meal with soy-garlic sauce and Korean street corn.
The cashier told us that it would take 15 minutes for our food. We filled drinks and sat down and the food was out...less than 5 minutes after ordering.
The boneless pieces were barely warm, with minimal sauce that was flavorless. They were definitely NOT crispy and actually soggy. The Street corn was not warm and the cheese on top never melted. The drumsticks were not hot either, definitely not crispy- in fact, they barely had any coating on them and minimal sauce. The fries were very greasy and not hot. They seemed like reheated leftovers. This food was absolutely not made to order. Why didn't we inform the cashier?? Because he took one order after ours and disappeared after giving it to the couple it was for.
I took pictures, but there is no option to post them. I hope others have better experiences than we did. For $30, for 2 meals, I don't think we will return. I'd love to speak to the manager or owner of they...
Read moreMy niece had never eaten Bonchon before, so I decided to treat her to a life changing experience.
We stopped by Bonchon in Troy, Michigan, after I hyped up these double fried wings. So much buzz—and wow, little did she know, she would find out for herself the hype was real.
The soy garlic wings were next-level. That double-fried crunch hits you right away, and the soy garlic glaze? Perfectly balanced—just sweet enough, with a deep, savory garlic flavor that lingers in the best way. They stayed crispy even after sitting in the car for a bit, which is rare. I dropped my niece off at home and drove to my hotel, and the wings were still crunchy and covered in soy garlic sauce. I caught myself licking my fingers between bites—not sorry at all.
The potstickers were a pleasant surprise. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with that same addictive soy garlic flavor. They paired so well with the wings. It almost felt like I was building my own Korean street food platter.
The Troy location was clean, the service was quick, and everything was packed up neatly for takeout. Honestly, if you’re craving bold flavors and serious crunch, Bonchon Troy nails it. This won’t be my niece's or my last visit—I’m already thinking about that...
