If you’re lucky, once in a great while you get the opportunity to unexpectedly experience a very special day.
For me, my wife and a few of our friends yesterday was one of those days when we discovered …. The Hubb
Yesterday morning my wife and I decided to plan a very last minute New Year’s day pub crawl in Troy and set about looking at Google Maps to see what bars would be opening by noon. We’ve done this before on NYD and usually hit five or six establishments during our travels.
As I looked around downtown, the Hubb’s 5 star review caught my eye and I decided to check it out.
I had never heard of it before, but it looked like it would be a great place for us to start things out.
Well, we showed up there at 1 pm and were immediately and warmly greeted by Stacey, who along with her husband Dave is one of the proprietors of the Hubb.
I can honestly say it was …. by far …. the best pub we visited yesterday ….
Because we didn’t actually leave there for the next 6 hours …. and it turned out to be less of a pub crawl and more of a pub stall
We thought about leaving a couple of times, but as the afternoon went on and we continued our conversations with Stacey and Dave …. learning about them and all about their brand new establishment and their many plans for turning it into a very special place… and it just never felt like I could leave and find another spot at that moment that I would enjoy being at more than being right there where I was already. That’s just a great feeling to have.
So we just never left.
They’ve only been open for 3 weeks now, so they still have lots of cool stuff they’re still working on, but after hearing the excitement and passion in their voices I have no doubt whatsoever that once the word gets out the Hubb will become one of the premier places to go in downtown Troy.
And if you’re a history buff like me, you’ll appreciate being able to tip your glass in what is actually the oldest bar building in Troy. While it has obviously changed hands and gone by various names many times since it was built in the 19th century, during its long life it has always been a bar.
Dave has done extensive work rehabbing many of the oldest and most challenging buildings in downtown Troy over the last 30 years, and his fine craftsmanship continues to be on display on this gem.
I could tell you the many other things I learned about this fine establishment during my pub (non)crawl, but I’m gonna leave it to you to visit for yourself and let Stacy and Dave share it with you personally.
I can tell you that it’s my new favorite place to go in Troy, and that I’m looking forward to seeing the remainder of this amazing transformation that Stacey and Dave have planned.
Great people Great place Great food Great cocktails
What more can you ask for really?
I give The Hubb Brick Oven & Bar 5 stars … with pleasure
PS
At some point during your visit, raise your glass, make a small toast and take a drink to honor Bob.
