I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for over two years, bringing my family here more than 20 times, but after my most recent experience, I am absolutely heartbroken and outraged by how we were treated.
While enjoying a meal with my sister and three nephews, my 2-year-old nephew was sitting next to my sister when her keys fell to the ground. As he tried to pick them up, we quickly noticed that he was soaked with bleach his hands and legs were covered in it, and there were visible puddles of bleach on the floor where he had walked. We realized the he ingested the chemicals. My immediate concern was for my nephew's safety. We rushed to clean him up, give him water, and assess the situation.
When we spoke to the manager about the hazardous situation, his response was defensive and deeply troubling. Rather than showing any empathy or concern for the child who had just been exposed to bleach, he immediately became confrontational. He dismissed our concerns and said, "We're not used to babies walking around," as if that was somehow an explanation for why there were hazardous chemicals left on the floor. His response was cold and inconsiderate; he told my sister to just take the baby to the bathroom to clean him up and refused to take any responsibility for the bleach being on the floor. He even went so far as to assume we were trying to get a free meal, which could not have been further from our intent. (We paid for our meals and gave our server a large tip) We were simply trying to ensure our baby was okay and that this incident was addressed.
Our server, thankfully, was kind and tried to help, but the manager's attitude was dismissive. He walked away without any real apology or solution, just saying, "Have a good day," which was completely unacceptable.
By the time we left, my nephew began vomiting in the car in the parking lot, and we were forced to contact poison control and the police to ensure his safety. We were terrified and shaken by the entire ordeal, and while we are grateful that he is okay, we are still deeply concerned about how this situation was handled. The manager's complete lack of accountability and compassion for a child who had just been exposed to a dangerous substance was appalling. To be treated with such indifference after being loyal customers for so long is simply unforgivable.
I am devastated that a restaurant I've trusted for so long would treat my family with such disregard, especially when it comes to the safety and well-being of a child. I can only hope they take this seriously and ensure that no other family has to endure such a terrifying experience.
Sad to say, but we will never...
Read moreTempted by Tiktoks of steaming noodles and glossy sauces, I’ve been wanting to try hot pot for a long time. Here’s how my first experience went!
It’s important to note that my intended score is 4.5. It’s rounded down to a 4 due to my personal take on the broth, which is an important component of the experience. The restaurant (and the KBBQ!) otherwise earned a solid 5/5.
Customer service was great. Coming in at New Year’s as a larger group, our wait was going to be eternal but we realized we’d double joined the wait list and they promptly accommodated us, which I really appreciated. The interior was well-decorated, bustling, and filled with the scent of sizzling beef. My anticipation grew.
Our server was patient with questions, as we had many. The food comes out family style, so the whole table can try. You cook it yourself, and just kind of guess when it’s done. Sounds easy enough, right?
Hot pot isn’t a budget meal by any means ($32 per person all you can eat, including KBBQ), but we absolutely ate our money’s worth. Everything on the extensive menu was good quality and generously portioned. Add in a fully stocked sauce bar and you’ve got a feast.
Another surprise is that our ingredients arrived almost instantly. With a dining time limit (two hours) I was concerned to see how long food would take to arrive and I needn't have worried. I will say, it took me a little bit of time to get used to multi-tasking my way through the meal without burning my mouth - dipping and stirring and fumbling with chopsticks - but once I got into a rhythm, things rolled along smoothly.
For full disclosure, my least favorite part was the butter beef broth, as it was spicy, but didn’t have too much other flavor beyond that. My lack of interest in the broth alone takes off half a star, but I absolutely plan on returning and discovering a base I like better.
My strategy for next time? Go with a group, order a variety of things you like to start with and do not immediately burn your mouth on the boiling hot broth. Practice with chopsticks ahead of time. Don’t be shy to ask questions. Give yourself a few minutes to get into a flow of cooking, eating, and chatting, and you’ll be a hot pot...
