I’ve been here three times now. First time for an earlier dinner was amazing, second time was okay, but very slow service, third time was absolutely the worst service I've received in a long time. The first time was the only time that I sat in the middle and was seated there. The second time, I was seated by the host on the second level right by the kitchen. This third time, we came early in the day, a late brunch, and we were told to sit anywhere we wanted. we chose to sit on the second level, and I think this was our first mistake.
No one noticed us for about 10 minutes, despite walking past one of the servers. Then, when ordering, we asked for vegan nachos with mushroom chorizo, no queso. When we got our nachos, they were just chips with pickled onions, and pico de gallo, and jalapeños. I can't believe that alone cost $13.
We also got a tomato basil pastry, I forget the name of the dish. That was very good, but $15, for just a flaky savory pastry with a small side salad and balsamic lol.
There are so many places in Tucson to get much more food, higher quality ingredients, and more vegan friendly options for so much less. Even in LA, you can eat much better for $13. I’d happily pay $20-$30 per meal but make it actually worth it.
We waited about 20 minutes, wondering when the server was going to come over and ask if everything was good so that we could tell them that we were missing the mushroom chorizo.
Finally, we went and asked for a cup of it. Nobody said sorry that we hadn't gotten it and they didn't even tell us that it was an up charge when they gave it to us. It would have been totally fine for it to be an up charge if it had come on time, but paying an extra four dollars for something that didn't even come when you're already paying $13 for chips and a few vegetables on top is so ridiculous.
At the very least, they should have offered an apology and they definitely should have comped the mushroom chorizo since it was forgotten.
The only thing good here was the drip coffee, and that was reasonably priced with no up charge for plant milk, thankfully. The guy who brought our food (not our server) was also very nice, but couldn’t be found after that either. Other than that, I would literally never come back here again.
And it's a shame because it's such a cute little place, it has wonderful ambience, it's a great looking place at night and the first couple times, they had very good live music. That's why I brought my friends here to show them a good taste of Tucson.
But instead, we left hungry still, and overcharged. I will never be back and wish that I had asked for a refund, but because they were already so slow, and we were in a rush to get to the airport, I didn't have time and clearly no one cared. This really put a damper on the last day of our trip together.
If you do decide to come, I would only sit right in the middle of the bottom level where everyone can see you. And I wouldn’t expect quick...
Read moreDate night a Jojo's was amazing!
As you walk down the street or alley, you are met with lights, tables, and lots of greenery. Jojo's is tucked into the Old Town Artisans in the Presidio District. Such a lovely venue for a date!
As you walk in from the street, you come into this large lighted outdoor courtyard. The bar (Monsoon Room I think it's called) is to your immediate left before you get to the hostess stand. The bar is indoors, decent sized, with the trunks of the trees growing right up through the building.
Because the Artisans are located inside, their shops line the outer boundary of the venue (we went for dinner, so the shops were closed). Looking in some of the windows, you can see many offer a taste of the Old Pueblo and the diverse desert we call Tucson.
It wasn't busy on the beautiful Saturday night in October - lots of places having their Halloween parties. However, I would recommend making reservations, as I can imagine a place this pretty would normally be hopping. They do not take reservations for parties of 1 or 2 also.
We were seated promptly on the grill/kitchen side. They were having live music that night, and I thought it was very intuitive of our hostess to sit us a bit back from the stage like she did (she seemed to pick up that we were on a date, and would probably appreciate sitting where we could hear each other talk - well done!). Oh, and tables are spaced apart here, which makes romance much easier (since another couple isn't right in your ears).
Table service was spot on all night. We wanted to get in all the getting-to-know-you formalities, so we were never quite ready to order. Our server was super patient - thanks for that also!
Their dinner menu has many delicious dishes. Nothing looked too snooty or pretentious. There is an emphasis on fresh ingredients and local flavors. We settled on the street tacos. They come 3 to an order. My date ordered the pork tacos, I got chicken (with the intent being we would each get one of the others so we could try both). The tacos come either with corn or flour tortillas. They were generously filled with grilled meat, cilantro, some cheese. Very tasty!
Jojo's seems like one of those "nights to remember" kind of places. Beautiful decor, great food, patient and attentive service, lovely people out enjoying a beautiful night out together! I would definitely...
Read moreCan hardly believe I've been in Tucson as long as I have and just found this place yesterday! 🤦🏾 Better late than never I suppose...🤷🏾♂️
Fantastic spot! Tucked into a nook surrounded by the coolest lil vintage & art shops, JoJo's is a treasure. Had a Mother/Son date and truly enjoyed the festive, serine & friendly atmosphere! Our server Griffin was very nice & attentive, and upon asking, he gladly shared a little history of JoJo's, confirming our suspicions that their ingredients were Locally Sourced! Way to support Local Small Business JoJo's, 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Kudos!
Mom had the [pictured] Grilled Chicken Tacos🌮 which were very tasty. The "bite" she offered turned into me almost eating a full taco...'till she gave me "the look🤨", Some of yall know what I'm talking about😅😅! Her helping was verry generous at 3 tacos and the slaw/cilantro topping added a great zest! She also had their House Salad 🥗 w/a Vinigarett Dressing. The salad looked amazing & tasted even better. The ingredients were so fresh & crisp, not one leaf of regular "iceburg" lettuce, it was all spinach & arugula, topped with vibrant red tomatoes & purple onion. The Vinigarett on all that freshness just made the salad burst with flavor!😋
I had the [pictured] Court Yard Burger 🍔w/Fries. Great Burger cooks, great burger! You can plainly see the meat was actual ground beef molded into a patty w/rigged, uneven edges and all. Absolutely not the run of the mill, "formed" disk patties most places serve. The Burger was Juicy too! Topped with American Cheese, purple onion, crispy dill pickles and bacon...🤤 And the toasted bun [not a standard bun either] was a nice added touch. The fries 🍟 were crispy, hot & perfectly salty.
We both had the Hibiscus Lemonade 🌺 🍋🍹that was out of thos world! Suuuper Lemony 🍋🥴🍋 which I wasn't ready for but loved!!
We ordered more Chicken Tacos to go for a Family Member & shopped at the Antique Store in that little plaza.
Griffin said the Dinner menu is different so we WILL most definitely be going back again and again! Love this new find!
If you haven't been, or just don't want box chain food...GO...
