I have been coming to the Lohse Y for lap swimming since 1995. I have never in all of these years experienced what is happening now with the pool. It is a fabulous pool and many people want to use it. All the Y's across the city have adopted a new policy of closing all the pools at 11am M-F with no hours for the swimmers who used to come on their lunch hour between 11am and 1pm. This results in forcing a large amount of daily swimmers to cram their usual 45 min to one hour workout swims into the five hours in the morning when the pool is open. In addition to the limited hours five months out of the year, the new policy is have 4 people circle swimming in each lane. They also have water aerobics classes five days a week for one hour of the five they are open, so during that time there are only four lanes available for lap swimming. This is not enjoyable. I cannot recommend joining this y for the purpose of using the pool. My husband and I, who are both long-time lap swimmers at Lohse Y, are looking into swimming at other facilities We may possibly quit going to this Y entirely because the cost of the monthly parking may be too much when we can't use the pool. This decision is with a heavy heart after 30 years loving this Y. They recently remodeled the pool and in our opinion it has been one of the best lap swimming pools in Tucson. It is truly a shame that the citywide pool director has chosen to turn it into a treadmill of a water...

Racquetball & basketball courts, free weights, weight machine circuit, yoga & qigong classes that are excellent, plus many other opportunities I never even explored.
Cons:
In a very expensive remodel, they deleted the dry sauna and a steam room, which were the best features of the place. I am unaware of any ways in which the remodel improved anything for me. But perhaps the new private shower stalls are better for people who've been traumatized in showers in prison?
The layout would probably be vetoed by any feng shui consultant. It's cavernous, sprawling, tortuous, and confusing, even to me. But I also take my elderly, disabled dad. On our way from the pool back to the locker room, my dad decided he needed the elevator, so we walked to that, past the front desk, where the attendant yelled at us to put shirts on. As if we'd planned to go around shirtless. When assisting an elderly person, it's not easy to predict how things will go.
There was a book called /Things That Make Us Smart/, about how good design results in products that work with us, rather than against us. This building makes me feel stupid, and as such, I can't approve of its design. I wish YMCA would bring in an architect to...
Read moreThe women at the front desk on 2/15 at 9:45 in the morning were extremely unfriendly. I forgot to bring in my id(my bad admittedly) but when I i got there, they were just straight up rude about it and, with no apology made me run back to my car in the pouring rain to get it. They could have easily just looked me up. Then informed me that even though I had already been there three times of my 6 time guest pass, I had to pull up a blank guest pass every time I came in. Basically I need to pull up their own website and show it to them every time I come in even though they have a record in the computer of every time I’ve been here. And the last sarcastic ‘have a nice day’ was an especially awesome touch. I would rather pay money to use the public pools and a local gym...
