A friend of mine offered to take me to dinner for my birthday. I was sooooo excited to try Street Tacos and Beer from the photos on Facebook of their food.
Due to the location downtown, there was NO parking and I ended up paying for parking in a garage and walking to the restaurant. There were maybe four or five tables outside on the front patio, all of which were taken.
We went inside and the place was horribly crowded and loud. Normally, I'd take this as a sign the food is spectacular. There was no hostess, you pick a table and seat yourself after walking down a little cordened off area to order. (Think 5 guys or Calle Tepa.)
This area is set up like the line at Chipotle, where each food server serves a specific item. The guy behind the counter asked me what I wanted. I ordered nachos with asada meat. As I was telling him, mid sentence, what I wanted...and mind you I knew what I wanted as we waited in line, so it was right after he asked me, he turned to my right to the person that has just ordered tacos he was cooking and asked them a question about their order. He then turned back to me and asked for my order again. He reached under the counter and pulled out a Styrofoam to go box preportioned with chips. He then opened the lid to the melted nacho cheese. I was a bit disappointed thinking they'd use melted cheese vs a cheese sauce. My friend looked at me and created a reservation online for another nearby restaurant. We had the nachos as an appetizer and left.
When we were looking for a table, one group got up to leave and I grabbed a chair quickly and sat down. My friend said it was like the Hunger Games trying to get a table. The atmosphere is not one potrayed online of relaxing tacos and beer. Who would have thought it would be stressful just to find a table!?! For that, I would have expected the nachos to be amazing!!
The chips were slightly salty, but we're overcooked. Luckily not greasy though. The carne asada meat was tough and relatively flavorless. I was very disappointed and doubt I'll be back. This is not a good place for a relaxing meal. It appears you order food at one area, then have to go separately to the bar to order beer, which we did not take the time to do because it looked like a mess to get over there. We did have a beer button at our table (you push it to order beer) which one friend tried to...
Read moreThis review is for the Park Place Mall location. We came here for Taco Tuesday yesterday (11/13) it was a really disappointing experience since the handful of times we have came it’s always been good. First, there were only 2 people working the front, and 3 people making food in the back- which is all fine and great but it seems they get overwhelmed with the traffic of people they get. There was an older guy with a beard mid 20s-early 30s and a teenager that kept having a conversation. The kid asked the older guy if he could give him a ride home, this all happening while I was in the middle of trying to order. The older guy misheard my order, and he got irritated when I mentioned I was missing a taco. He gave me attitude and said next time just order all my tacos at once- as if it was my fault he didn’t hear. We also ordered beer, and the kid that was helping the other guy didn’t know how to pour beer from the tap so I had to wait for the other guy to stop making orders and give me my drinks. The salsa bar is a mess, cups everywhere, salsa spilled on various areas, napkins everywhere, it just looks very unsanitary and messy. I don’t have any complaints about the food, as presentation is great and has delicious flavor but customer service is mediocre. It’s clear they can’t handle such amount of people, they should consider adding another person to the front since they struggle with this. I won’t be coming back to...
Read moreCame in for lunch on a Thursday and we were met by a thick cloud of mesquite smoke, so thick that our eyes were watering before we got to order.
I ordered a fish taco (big mistake) and a Sonoran dog (grab a fork and knife for this one!). It’s kind of like a chipotle experience, where you get to build your items as you work your way towards the register. The free chips and salsa were a nice surprise!
Ultimately I felt pretty let down by my pre-cooked and griddle-reheated fish taco. I understand that speed of service necessitates a pre-cooked fish finger or whatever you wanna call it, but I much would’ve preferred to wait an extra few minutes for a freshly battered and fried piece of fish. I recommend they get rid of the tiny fish kid-size taster taco if this is the best they can offer. It was puny and not worth the dinero.
The Sonoran dog was a hit though. Messy af, but delicious. Be sure to grab some utensils and extra napkins.
Maybe the smokiness is an intended part of the experience, but for me and mine, and my beard and long hair, I’d rather not be marinated in food smells while I eat my lunch. They need better ventilation,...
