Tonight is my only experience with Fox Theatre, and I'm sure my experience is not indicative of the theatre as a whole, but I'm not positive about that either. I have 3 play reviews to do and I'm on my last one, so not knowing Fox Theatre's main product, I stopped by, and asked Doug, the man operating the box office, the name of the show and if it was okay to enter since the show had started 20 minutes prior. He replied yes and I asked him the name of the show. I had never heard of "the play" but thought I should give it a shot. I pay the $32.00 and go through security and I hear music.A TV screen above my head reveals a woman singing beautifully on stage while the lighting makes you feel like you're under a full moon . As beautiful as the setting was, I realized I was in a music theatre that markets singing rather then acting. . No big deal I thought, after all, it has only been 45 seconds since my purchase so laughing I told Doug the error I made.He looked at me and said "No refunds". Keep in mind I paid cash so this can be fixed very easy. I could not believe what I thought I heard so I clarified. "It's right there on your ticket" Doug continued, "What?"was all I could reply and he finished "No refunds" I then said, " it was 45 seconds ago and as you may realize I'm not familiar with this area" Doug didnt care.He kept my $32.00. This was an extremely ugly event, but I can't help but I feel a deep sense of sadness for Doug. To be simple minded and not understand basic courtesy is a tough obstacle to overcome. I do wish Doug my best. I will contact the manager soon and fill she/he in because I need to know if this kind of thinking is being pushed at the...
Read moreFox Theatre has always been our favorite venue for live entertainment in Tucson. I greatly appreciated how the sound crew always made sure to keep sound levels appropriate throughout each performance. It may be reasonably loud, but nowhere near blasting one's ears out. However, last night my family saw the "Live and Let Die, The Music of Paul McCartney" performance starring Tony Kishman. The sound mix throughout the event was terrible, the worst we had ever heard at the Fox. Other instruments, like the guitars, drums, or synthesizer often drowned out Tony's singing, and the overall volume was ear piercing, even headache-inducing to my teenage son. This has never occurred at any other events.
However, one of the most irritating parts of the show was the photographer; throughout the entire performance, she walked on and off the stage taking pictures, standing only a few feet from various performers and being an overall distraction from the show. In one song, when Tony Kishman was playing the piano and singing, she stood directly in front of him to take pictures, blocking the audience's view entirely. People all around us were mumbling about it throughout the performance--at points I could even hear some audience members exasperatingly shouting for her to get off the stage. Is this the kind of quality that we may expect for future for the Fox Theatre? In any case, I am glad I chose not to renew my...
Read moreMy dad and I went to see Live From Laurel Canyon Presents Lennon & Nilsson, Songs from the Lost Weekend, for my dad's 70th birthday. We had never been to Fox Theater before, so didn't know what to expect, but we really enjoyed it! It's a beautiful old venue with very friendly staff and clean facilities.
A security guard checked my bag on the way in and actually let me bring in the water bottle that I had. There were also concessions, which were surprisingly affordable. Popcorn was $4 with $1 refills, soda was $2, candy was $4, etc. The staff members were really helpful in helping us find our seats. (I will say, the seats are not the most comfortable, especially for me with chronic pain. They're typical old movie theater seats. My dad did think they were comfortable though 🤷🏽♀️)
We had second row seats so we got to see the band up close and personal! It was a great time and Otto, the singer, sounded just like John Lennon, but also did an amazing Harry Nilsson! We thought it was really cool that they had video playing on the screen behind the band too. And we got to meet some of the band members after the show!
It was definitely a good birthday present for my dad but I also loved it. I'd go to Fox Theater again; it's not a gigantic venue, but it's charming and the employees are...
