My daughter and I ate here tonight. We won’t be going back.
The hostesses didn’t seem like they knew what was going on. We were sat in a booth and it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to come on over. Because she took so long, she brought waters. We ordered gator bites and our drinks. We got our drinks quickly. Gator bites took some time. They came out fresh and were good.
Our waitress disappeared. About 10 minutes after we got our gator bites, she finally found time to take our order. I ordered the ribeye, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. My daughter ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. I ordered my steak medium.
It took about 30 minutes for our food to come out. I saw our waitress bring our food out, but then watched as she took it to a different table and sat it down in front of other guests. Much to my horror, I believe the female guest grabbed the knife off my plate and finally was like, “this isn’t ours”. Our waitress finally figured out, she got it wrong. She finally brings us our food. Upon presentation, my meal looks good and so does my daughter’s. She drops the food off and again, disappears.
I bite into the Mac and cheese. The first bite was warm. The rest of the bites, cold. I cut into my steak. It’s rare. Not medium rare. Rare. I am not one to send my food back, so I start to eat it. Then, my daughter says, “try this chicken”. The chicken in her chicken Alfredo was 1) cold, 2) hard, 3) old or canned with parsley thrown on it. At that point, I was done. I finally find a manager (maybe) and explain that our waitress is MIA and my steak is way undercooked.
She does offer to put it back on the grill. I said, “no”. She then offered to make a new one. No, good on that too. Not only am I hungry, but after waiting about an hour for your waitress to bring our food, I’m not waiting another hour for a new steak. I show her the steak and she said, “yeah, that’s medium rare”. No, ma’am. It’s rare.
About 5 minutes later, our waitress comes over and offers to finally do her job and I declined. Asked for my check and 2 to go boxes because I had my fill of Bourbon Street Cafe at that point.
The manager comes back over and brings out to go boxes and stated she took half off the meal. I didn’t ask for that and she didn’t have to do that. It was a nice gesture and appreciated. She then sees me put my steak in my to go box and says, “yeah, that’s rare”.
If you want Cajun food, go to Nola’s. You may wait for a while, but you won’t be disappointed in service or with your food. Our experience tonight was so disappointing, because back in the day, Bourbon Street Cafe was so good. Not anymore.
OH. And… if you park in front of the restaurant, make sure you pay for parking. Otherwise, you’ll get a ticket. It’s just better to go find street parking. It’s...
Read moreMy husband and I made a reservation here before our concert at the BOC. Our experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a wine and an old fashioned to start things off. A full 15 minutes later, the waitress brought my wine and told my husband that they were out of the Bourbon needed to make a different old fashioned choice. He ordered a different one, but had to wait about 10 minutes more to get that. It had a ball of ice and bourbon - that was it. No orange peel, no bitters, no cherry. Just a bourbon on the rocks with the Old Fashioned price. Next we each ordered a starter. I ordered a spinach salad. The waitress asked me what protein I wanted on it. I told her that the proteins are an additional charge on the menu and I didn't want protein as I was planning on having fish. She kept insisting that she had to put a protein down on her handheld computer. I kept telling her I didn't want a protein JUST THE SALAD. She then said she'd tell the kitchen and hopefully she could get it without protein. I showed her the menu and she finally realized the error, but she seemed put out by me having to politely point it out. My husband ordered the Lobster Bisque. We each ordered our Mains at the same time. I had Redfish Royale with two sides, I chose Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach. My husband chose the crawfish etouffee. We again waited another 15 minutes and suddenly here was our whole meal - starters and mains together. My salad was not even cool - but very lukewarm. My husband's bisque was very cool, not even close to being warm. Our mains were hot, so obviously, the waitress neglected to bring them out before the mains were ready - they just sat there the whole time as our main was being prepared. The main courses were just OK, nothing very appetizing. My mashed potatoes were extremely dry and it was obvious there was no garlic in it and there wasn't milk or butter either.. just smashed up potato. There was no spinach on my main plate, so that was another trip to the kitchen for our waitress. I did not receive my spinach until we were both finished with our food. When the waitress asked us how it was, we were polite, but honest and told her it was a pretty big disappointment and told her why. She said, "Oh, that's too bad" and slapped down our bill and just walked away. No offer to speak to the management or make it right in any way at all. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back. Our waitress was named Lily... and she definitely needs to be re-trained about meals and when to bring them all out. It could have made a big difference in...
Read moreHappy Birthday to Me! Bourbon Street Cafe was my favorite restaurant in the 90s, but it closed down around 20 years ago. It reopened 3 weeks ago, just in time for my birthday. I was so excited when I heard.
Dinner was a Tuesday at 6:00 PM, my wife and me. There was no waiting, but I had made a reservation through Resy last week. Our waiter was Kale. Friendly and efficient. Attentive but not intrusive.
We started with oysters on the half shell. They were sweet, chilled perfectly, and worth every penny of the 2.00 each. Served with a lemon wedge, horseradish, and cocktail sauce. I will definitely get these again.
My wife ordered Satchmo's: Blackened Salmon topped with a rich Lump Crab Beurre Blanc Sauce, served with Garlic Mashed Potatoes $29. She enjoyed it very much. I tried it, too. It was well seasoned, salmon cooked a perfect texture. The beurre blanc was velvety and buttery and complimented the sweetness of the crab. The potatoes are just the way I like them, meaning including some lumps and skins. This gets a highly recommend from my wife. I don't particularly care for salmon, so it is not my choice.
I've been waiting 20 years to order my entree. I had the Black Magic Catfish: Blackened Catfish smothered in Crawfish Étouffée with Dirty Rice $22. My memories were not disappointed. Portion size has been adjusted, but that's expected. First, the rice. This dirty rice is oh so delightfully dirty. Spicy, good amounts of sausage, with the right amount of clumpiness (not falling apart but not a solid chunk either). Next, the catfish. This filet has bite. Spicy, but not kill-your-tastebuds hot. So much flavor. Exactly what Cajun blackened should be. The cook was near perfect, firm flesh excellent sear. And last but certainly not least, the Crawfish Étouffée. There is a reason the menu includes this as an entree all its own. This is so good. More Cajun spice with a nice ratio of crawfish tails, green peppers, onion, and celery. This Étouffée is where texture and flavor meet up and have a party and the guests are the catfish and rice. Must try.
Dessert followed. My birthday gave us a complimentary New Orleans Bread Pudding (normally $7). Also, a highly recommend. Wanna know a secret? It isn't on the menu, but they have one of the most amazing Bourbon Pecan Pies. They may look at you like you have a second head when you ask for it, but if they have it it is worth it.
If you are in Tulsa, if you like Cajun fine dining, Bourbon Street Cafe is...
