Location and aesthetics were beautiful. Room itself was disappointing. 508. The shower had a cool multi head system, but wasn’t functioning properly. It never adjusted to the main head alone and the others went in all angles. The adjuster knob fell off easily. Water temp fluctuated during shower to hot/cold/hot without input from us. Hot water lasted about 5 mins. Then we tried again and it lasted 10. Wild.
Bed was super comfy and adequate. No squeaks and ample pillows. No insects or bugs and thermostat was responsive. Windows open to direct outside, but safe 5” gap or so. Refreshing in an old building.
Biggest letdown was the Rooftop Bar was closed and we couldn’t go see it even. That was our planned evening out upon booking. So expect that on a Tuesday evening. The other full service restaurant was closed as well. The coffee from the Mark is good and fairly priced.
Valet service was ok. First kid tried the night before but was understaffed. Their text retrieval service said no one was available to retrieve our car for 25mins, yet the valet was at his post in the lobby. The older gentlemen at checkout was prime example of class. He was on-time although busy, never indicated frustration, opened the door for my wife and opened our trunk and offered to load our luggage. Earned a handsome cash tip from us. We appreciate the effort.
Lobby was gorgeous and very pleasing. We enjoyed spontaneous photo opportunities (while waiting on the valet text response) and there are many places for that. However in the lobby, if you are sensitive to smells, be aware. Their airfreshener system was on full blast and was very powerful- to the point my wife and I both got headaches from it. That is not something we are normally sensitive to either. The floral scent was very pleasing but very strong. Think that old man that you smell from a mile away - the cologne smell is awesome but you cannot escape it. And this lobby was HUGE haha.
Overall for the price ($250 + $30 valet) we felt the experience of the lobby was the highlight but wouldn’t chose to stay again at that rate for the room. It was spacious, but the bathrooms are HUGE deal for us. It doesn’t help that on an off night (no events and no holiday on a weeknight) our rate was $300 but when I go to write this review I see our same package listed for $150. $100 devaluation for a booking a month later in April. That put a rough taste in my mouth. We were visiting for our 9th anniversary. And upon booking I signed up for the discounts. The card I booked with wasn’t charged on booking (although I thought it was) and the actual fee was paid using a card...
Read moreMy first night at The Mayo was 4 days ago on my wedding night - June 20th. Expectations were high as I always thought of the Mayo as the gold standard of hotels in Tulsa, OK.
Unfortunately, my wife and I were sorely mistaken.
We showed up at the hotel at 11:30 PM to find that Valet service stopped at 11:00 PM. Seems odd to not have valet service past 11:00 PM on a Saturday night for a hotel without a parking lot. (Oh well, just a Trump Rally thing I guess) After driving our car to a friends house, nervous about our vehicle being vandalized during (potential) rioting if parked on the street, we finally arrived at The Mayo at Midnight to find that our preordered "R&R" package was not in our room (Strawberries and Champagne). I called the front desk and notified them that it was our wedding night and we ordered the R&R package and nothing was in our room. The clerk was very apologetic and notified me that the chef was gone so he could not provide neither the strawberries nor the champagne. The clerk could tell I was disappointed and assured me that he would have the hotel manager contact me to follow up. I still have not received any call or email from the hotel regarding the situation. Half an hour goes by and I have the idea - "What if I go up to the rooftop bar and order drinks and bring them down to the hotel room?" So, I call the front desk again and ask if that's possible. Again, the clerk was extremely friendly and told me that I could but there is a dress code up there and I'd have to go to the first floor for him to buzz me up to the roof (again, Trump rally security stuff I guess). So, I put my suit back on, went downstairs, got buzzed up stairs, paid $12/cocktail and brought them down to my room. Problem solved, I guess.
My advice to newlyweds out there - go somewhere that doesn't get all the Tulsa newlyweds and you'll probably actually feel like one. The young man working the front desk was very friendly but lacked any kind of follow through to make my wife and I feel like it mattered that they dropped the ball on the most important night of our life. No comp at the bar, no call from the manager, no apology note under the door.
I wasn't (and still am not) looking for a handout, freebie, or anything like that. There are many free things you can do to make a guest feel like their experience matters. But, you probably won't...
Read moreThis hotel deserves zero stars!!!!! Customer service was terrible trying to resolve and issue of a room being booked that I did not reserve. Never even heard of this hotel or even went to Tulsa during this time! Our personal information was used without our authorization and charged to our credit card. Made numerous phone calls, left messages to be called back which weren't returned and voicemail boxes were always full. Finally talked to General Manager who had zero compassion for what had been done to us just was worried about his bottom dollar not the fact that some one was being ripped off by thieves. At this point even if I made a trip to Tulsa, I would sleep on the street before I stayed at this hotel.
Response to reply: First I have only had two conversations with you of which one was today and the first one when you told me to dispute with the credit card company and your hotel would take care of it with them so I did that. I told the credit card company everything that I told you including that we did not make this charge or the reservation. I also did not tell you that the card was in my husband's drawer I told you it is locked in our safe and has been for quite some time. We do not use this card except for emergencies. I did do what you told me with the credit card company and told them everything including that we did not book this reservation or authorize it to be booked. You said in our first conversation that no one showed up and today you tried to say that someone gave you the card to swipe which is impossible since it is locked in a safe. Even the report given to the credit card company said it was for a no show. Also, the only way I have been able to contact you is through the phone number listed on your website, I have never been given your cell phone number, direct office number or e-mail. But for your reference I have contacted the credit card company again and told them the entire story and they are dealing with it. There is no need to respond again as I am done and my feeling regarding how you and your hotel handled this situation stands. There are cyber thieves everywhere taking advantage of innocent people and when people like you think it is more important to have the money for a room than to help a person out that was taken advantage of is what is wrong with the world today....
