This Holiday Inn Express location is in the perfect location for our intended visit to the Bob Dylan Center (a MUST visit for anyone that appreciates American music history!) and local dining options like Local Bison and Chimera.
This being said, it wasn't the perfect stay. Upon entering the lobby their was an overwhelming scent of some sort of fragrance. I (as well as many others) am sensitive to artificial fragrances. I hoped that it was simply lingering from the last person at the front desk and that it would dissipate eventually. The next thing I noticed was all the cool Halloween décor throughout the lobby area (even the elevators!). We also appreciated the no charge for handicap parking. This meant uncovered parking, but we felt it was safe an secure enough.
Our room had a couple of negatives. The first thing was when I went to wash my hands and pushed up to turn the faucet on and it literally fell right off! I attached back on and warned the other two people staying with me. As if that wasn't enough, the toilet seat was only being held down by one of two fasteners/bolts, and my husband had to fix that. (We didn't think it was worth calling down to the desk about these things, but housekeeping should have noticed and had them fixed.)
We had a decent night's sleep. I awoke early the next morning looking forward to the hot coffee that I was assured of upon check in would be ready by 4:30 or 5:00 (breakfast at 6:00), and it was 5:30. The first disappointment/annoyance was as soon as I stepped into the hallway from our room and there was that smelly fragrance again (not too strong), and then I stepped out of the elevator into the lobby and the overwhelming smell of air fragrance hit me. within 10 minutes I had a headache.
Another big disappointment was the lukewarm coffee that was obviously not fresh morning brew. I figured it wasn't officially supposed to be ready until 6:00, so I didn't say anything to the desk clerk (I should have). I could hear the breakfast staff working behind the big wall/door that would become the breakfast area and sat anticipating the hot coffee. Soon I could smell bacon and that helped the air fragrance smell. Finally the door slid open and a woman came out to check the stock at the coffee bar. I heard her call over to the desk clerk (in Spanish) and ask her if she made the coffee. The (young) woman just looked at her. The older woman turned and just shook her head and went over to grab the coffee and quickly go to the back (to brew coffee!). Soon she came out with what I had been waiting for!
The furniture in the lobby was comfortable for sitting to sip coffee and catch up on some work on my laptop while waiting for my two companions to wake.
I eat a healthy vegan diet so, unsurprisingly, the offering were minimal. However, I was SO HAPPY to find that they offered what was obviously old-fashioned oats! Not the little packets of sweetened instant stuff, or yucky runny oats, but hot thick, whole oats with nothing in them!!! I had a huge bowl along with my own banana, topped with raisins from the breakfast bar. So yummy!
We will stay here again. In case management doesn't read this, I am going to email them to suggest they not use that horrible air-freshener and instead just make sure things are clean so that it...
Read moreTERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My mother in law booked the stay for us (me & my husband) as we came in from out of town to visit my father in law who is in the hospital close by and not expected to live. We arrived at check in time, front desk clerk at check in was nice enough, so we go up to our room to settle in and rest after a long and rough day. We initially bought some snacks at the hotel lobby and had them charged to the card on file that was used to book the room. About an hour later, my husband goes down to the lobby to add 3 more bottled waters for me, and again requests them to just charge it to the card on file. So he comes back to the room with the water but tells me they couldn't charge the waters to the card on file because the "system was down" and made him pay cash for it ($10 for 3 bottled waters-kinda expensive but okay whatever) he asked if she could just note the waters and then just charge the card when the system came back up. Mind you, there was no issues when we first checked in and got snacks with the girl we initially checked in with. My husband did however get a little upset with her and questioned the girl about why it was such a hassle about the bottled waters etc. Granted, he shouldn't have got upset like he did, BUT, it's understandable in a sense because his father is on his deathbed and for the girl to make such a huge stink over bottled water was a bit ridiculous since the first girl acommodated us nicely with the initial snack purchases at check in. NOTE: I was up in the room sleeping while this exchange happened over the 3 bottled waters. So I had no idea this issue had taken place, but approx. 1 hour later, we get a loud knock on our door that woke me up, husband goes to check, and it's the POLICE! I'm like what in the world is going on??! Apparently the girl at front desk called the police on us to have us removed from the property immediately! No good reason given except for "they just want you to leave, you will get a full refund minus the food charged to card" according to the police officers. So we had to pack up hurridly while the officers watched, and then escorted out by them. I have NEVER been so embarassed and humiliated in all of my life. This has NEVER happened in all my almost 50yrs being on earth. We were made to feel like CRIMINALS when all we wanted was to have a safe place to rest after saying our final goodbyes to my husbands father. I have so much more I could go on and on about this terrible experience, but at least I know we will NEVER EVER stay at a Holiday Inn...
Read moreHusband and myself are staying for a work trip at Holiday Inn Express Downtown Tulsa. We where booked Monday - Thursday for my husbands work and we decided to extend our stay through Saturday. We arrived Monday and I noticed that the AC unit was making a horrible sound and would not turn off. When you press the off button on the unit the motor continued to run. I went downstairs to the front desk to ask for service. I was told that maintenance would be up to the room Tuesday morning. Mid morning Tuesday, I returned to the front desk to remind them of our issue and was told that he was asked to run shuttle and would be up when he returned; he did not. I went to the front desk a total of six times asking when he would be to the room to check the AC ( I'm working from the room while my husbands in training). NO ONE SHOWED. Finally we left for dinner at 5:30 Tuesday night and again I asked about service, they said he would be right up. We returned to the room at 8:30 with the same issue still. Here it is Wednesday and I again went downstairs to ask about service. He finally made it to the room at 10:10 am to check the AC. "The motor's going out and needs rebuilt. We can move you rooms" per maintenance. I told him that would be fine and we moved down the hall. After moving all of our stuff I went to the front desk to turn in the old room key. I stated to the woman behind the desk that we requested service on the AC Monday night and it was now 11 am Wednesday and we were finally accommodated. For this I requested they comp the Thursday and Friday night stay for the inconvenience they caused; working from the room and dealing with non-stop headaches due to noise. I was told "We do not comp rooms. I can offer you points for another stay". This might be good for some but we do not travel and that does us no good. I told her this and asked to speak with either a supervisor or manager. SHE IS THE GM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm baffled at this point; you really think treating your customers like this is acceptable? I have never been rude when asking about service nor did I make a rage demanding another room. All I wanted was for someone to look at the AC when we...
