Finally found the time to draft this and I must say that my experience at Barrel and Bushel was nothing short of exceptional, thanks in large part to the incredible bartender, Matt. From start to finish, Matt's dedication to his craft and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction left a lasting impression on me and my companions.

Upon arriving at the establishment, Matt greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home. He immediately took the time to inquire about our preferences and provided us with a tailored cocktail menu that perfectly suited our tastes. His knowledge of the drink offerings was truly impressive; he effortlessly guided us through the menu, offering insightful recommendations and explaining the unique ingredients and flavor profiles of each cocktail.

The only good thing about this place was everyone was friendly and service was fast. And the crab avocado toast was excellent. Friends and I agreed to meet for dinner and drinks, I arrived early to avoid traffic, only to find out the bar was ONLY outside as things were under renovation (in the middle of summer in DC... ugh!). And all the open seats were in full sun, I was sweating before I decided what to drink so I left and went inside to ensure we could get a table later. I was told I could sit inside but would need to go to the bar each time to get a drink. I'd also be taking up a table for 6 just for me. There were 3 bartenders outside, surely one could have waited on the inside "bar" area. I even checked the website that morning, there was NO notice of a renovation, outside only bar, etc. or I would have asked my friends to meet elsewhere.

Then, I read the beer list. It is NOT the list that is posted online with 22 beers, some of which I really wanted to try. Instead there are 6 or so, I guess due to the renovation. Big FAIL on keeping the website updated, by this point I was just angry and if I wasn't meeting friends, would have left without getting anything. We bought canned beer, no glasses were brought out for them. And the water glasses on the table all had chips in them or were dirty, just gross.

Ordered food. Old Bay deviled eggs... bleh, no flavor at all. Crab toasts were awesome. Mac & cheese was overcooked pasta and so much sauce it was soup. Heirloom tomato salad was pre-cut and cold tomatoes, a big NO NO, so they had NO flavor. Seriously, someone could easily chop them to order and keep them room temperature like they should be, especially for the price of this place. Friends got chicken sliders, a big mess but decent taste, and chicken sandwich. One ordered tater tots instead of chips, they came out in a soup of cream and cheese or something, loaded with jalepenos... the waiter never mentioned they weren't just plain fried tater tots.

Finally, they pride themselves on local food and I thought the environment, but they leave doors open. So AC goes out and flies, so many flies, come in. Swatting constantly at your food and drinks is not enjoyable. Close the doors, no need for the unnecessary waste.

I never plan to return, it was nothing but disappointment after disappointment with one wow item. Hence the 2 stars, the good item and friendly staff. It's not difficult to keep a website updated, and if it is, then don't have a website. People go to it to ensure disasters like this...
