I had been at The Palm several years ago, and I remember how great experience we had then, so much that we decided to go celebrate our wedding anniversary there this past weekend.
The nicest person they had was the hostess. She is super classy, helpful, and a big beautiful smile on her face ... she showed us our table, and we thought it would only get better from here, right? Wrong!
It took a solid 6 minutes for our waiter to come to greet us. He was like "oh I hear you're celebrating your birthday." I said no, it's our anniversary, he laughed and said oh same thing! I said, actually, it is not, but thank you!
He offered us the wine menu, and we kindly declined as we don't drink. He then proceeded to tell us the specials. Gave us our sparkling water and left, pretty customary.
Easily 10 minutes passed, and we hadn't been offered bread or anything, then another waiter came to our table and asked: have you guys been given any bread?! We said no, not yet. He was like, "Would you like some?" We said, "Oh yes, please.
Another couple/family came right about this time and sat at the table across from us, and they were getting all the things on time, all the attention, etc ... the way it should be ... my husband and I are just sitting at the table looking at each other in disbelief of the difference in service.
I guess the waiter we had has an assistant, and he came and brought us lemon slices [we asked for them more than once] and in a very playful mode he was like: Oh so and so is old and slow, I am here to help! We smiled back and thanked him.
The main server returns, and he takes our order, including appetizers. He refills our water glasses ... we get our appetizers within decent time. They were 💯 delicious and tasty, and in fact, I told my husband: I could make this my main meal, and I would be so happy
After we were done with appetizers, it took easily 30 minutes to get our food ... the family sitting across from us were on their desserts by the time we got our food ... the steak was tasteless, we could tell they forgot about us, and it felt as if the chef rushed, threw the steak in the broiler for a couple of minutes, and brought it to my husband ... completely undercooked and, again, no flavor, I've had better quality steaks from frigging Costco, honestly.
My fish was okay, the presentation was lacking big time, there was no depth in the taste, no particular notes stood out, it was just blah fish with a few strings of crab meat in the middle, 4-5 sad pieces of sparragus and a decent dipping sauce.
The mushrooms were very good, very tasty! The mashed potatoes were also very good, very flavorful - these 2 sides were far better tasting than the protein in the main dish ...
The assistant to the main waiter came to check on us, brought us another bottle of sparkling water, and I said, "Please be careful. [I saw him handling it rather roughly] you’ll spill it ... prophetic words, my friends 😆, he spilled it all over one side of the table. Thankfully, my bag or phone wasn't there.
It took a 4th waiter to notice that we were done eating, and she came with a very pelasant attitude and offered to pack our food ...
We ordered dessert, a cream bruleé and 2 cappuccinos... both were decent, just decent ... the person making the caps tried to make a shape with the foam, and it's not his forté, but thanks for trying. The young lady who brought us desserts was very nice, by the way.
The bathrooms needed attention, at least speaking of the ladies'. There were no toilet seat covers in the dispensers, lots and lots of water on the countertops, and the soap dispenser has seen better days, it wasn't pumping soap right.
Overall is a 3, maybe 3 and half stars ... nothing to be impressed by, frankly. Hopefully, this honest feedback helps them improve the experience they give to their patrons, especially if they make plans to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or special milestones in their lives.
Will I go back? It's a maybe ... and if I do, it won't be to celebrate...
Read moreI had a date here and I have been wanting to try this restaurant. I have to say I was not impressed. I cannot tell you what our bill was, but I can tell you that I was highly disappointed with the food. I will also tell you save yourself the issues and go to Eddie V‘s, Capital Grille or even Ruth’s Chris steak House.
I wouldn’t say I’m angry about anything I would say that I’m disappointed with my first time going to the restaurant.
Pros. The service seemed pretty good. The staff seemed knowledgeable somewhat of the menu and somewhat accommodating.
Cons. I enjoy champagne and they only had one option of champagne by the glass so I accepted that but it was horrible. We ended up getting a bottle of Veuve. They did take the glass back and brought the drinks menu back. I did not feel that they had a comprehensive wine or champagne list. When our server brought us our champagne, she did the right thing for me after opening it and then realized that she needed to get an ice bucket. She went and got an ice bucket and then attempted to set it on our table, and then realize that our table was only intended for two people and was trying to make room on the table. My date and I suggested that maybe she get a stand to hold the champagne bucket. I would think that a serving staff member would know this. I ordered their fresh raw oysters and they were blue points. They were flavorful, but small, It didn’t come with anything special other than lemon cocktail sauce, and horseradish. i’m not really sure if this is a negative thing it just was not as set up well as the other restaurants that I recommended above. We ordered a second course of salads. Our waitress seem to be a bit in a rush to get our dinner order in, so we did that. Our dinners arrived before we were finished with our salad, so that’s the con there. He was happy with his steak. We ordered a side of green beans, and honestly, there was nothing really special about them. These were just very basic with a little bit of garlic. I ordered the Chilean Seabass I can’t have wheat so they were able to take the stuffing out of the crab meat and just put regular crab meat in it. It came with asparagus that had hollandaise sauce on top. I didn’t really want to serve this way but I want ahead and eat it that way. My disappointment was in the Chilean Seabass. This is one of my favorite types of fish to have and I’ve even cooked it at home and this just came across as very dry and not very good. It was just ok. I have not had desserts in a while, so we decided to go ahead and treat ourselves to desert. I wanted a tawny port. She was not familiar with the ports and had to ask about them and I was able to get a 20 year tawny port, which was OK. I asked them if they had a crème brûlée And our server had mentioned that it wasn’t on the menu, but they did have it. My day order the chocolate cake. Me chocolate cake my date didn’t even finish because it was so dry. I had the crème brûlée, which is my all-time favorite dessert and it was under cooked and tasted horrible. Needless to say after having a few bites of it, my stomach was not feeling very good. I had to excuse myself to the restroom and was not able to finish my dessert and had no interest in finishing it. It was the worst crème brûlée I have had. I do not like having to say that in a review, but I think people need to know what to expect. Let’s talk about the ladies room. I know that for some people this isn’t a big deal, but as I mentioned the restaurants above, have better facilities. There were two stalls I had to wait and the restroom was below par.
Based off of reviews and pricing, I expected more from this restaurant it doesn’t come close to what I had hoped. I’ve had better food at many other restaurants with better ambience, pricing and food. The Palm sadly is is not going to be on my...
Read moreThe Palm came highly recommended so I decided to book Christmas dinner for my family. I spoke to Jared the restaurant manager who was very pleasant and professional. The reservation was made for 10 people as we were hosting family and friends. I requested a round table so we can easily see each other and have a conversation.
When we arrived the gaudy decor on the walls jumped out right away. This is not what I expected for a “high end” restaurant. (That’s on me for not doing enough research before the reservation)
TABLE: My anxiety grew when they jammed our table between others. The chairs were literally back to back with other diners. The server couldn’t get to me without going around the outside perimeter of four tables.
SERVICE: Our server got the order and was pleasant. However the service from the ancillary staff was rough, rushed and unprofessional. One server threw the plate of food in front of us, then said “sorry”. It was so cramped that the wait staff asked us to pass over plates because they couldn’t reach - in effect we were bussing our own table all night long!
We have dined many places around the world, never have we experienced such vulgar way of treating diners. Diners are not supposed to assist the service staff. They are paying for a dining experience.
NOISE: The noise level was so loud no one could effectively hear anything without shouting across the table.
FOOD: Appetizers were so small we had to order double of everything. Calamari was good. The meatball …yuk. We were told the salads were shareable sizes but were single portions so we ordered multiples so everyone could have some.
The boneless prime rib was grey and thin. It was overcooked. It landed on a cheap, scratched, cafeteria style oval plate with nothing but a grey piece of meat languishing in its juice. No garnish or any culinary effort was made. For a $70 steak, that was shocking . My guests had similar unappetizing plates.
The sides were mashed potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms. We also had to order multiple orders as the shareable sides were big enough for one hungry person, or at the most between two people.
BILL: For $1400 bill this was an embarrassing situation. To add insult to injury, I specifically asked our server to bring the bill to me and my husband as we were hosting. When one of our guests was generously trying to pay the bill, the server decided it was “fair” to split the bill. This was not her decision to make! It was unprofessional and further embarrassed me and my husband by allowing MY GUEST to pay half the bill.
FEEDBACK TO MANAGEMENT: If you are going to charge the prices, please train your staff on etiquette of service. What we experienced was completely unacceptable, and your staff...
