Peter Chang replaced Forever Restaurant at this location. That had been one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in the area so we were sad to see it close. We gave Peter Chang a go and it is a lot different from Forever Restaurant, not that that is a bad thing.
If Forever Restaurant was a Chinese restaurant for a primarily Chinese clientele then Peter Chang is definitely aiming for an uh, more diverse one. I mean, you don't name your menu "Chinese tapas" if you're trying to be "authentic" or whatever.
Anyway. They are only taking reservations and the place is very crowded. A lot of people walking in being turned away without a reservation. We didn't know this ahead of time but we put our names down and came back an hour and a half later for a table. I imagine they will relax this in the future if the crowds slow down.
Service was good. Food came out at intervals but that's expected. We ordered three of the "tapas" dishes and one noodle dish plus rice. We got two meats (pork and beef) and a fish. Everything was cooked well. The fish was crispy, well seasoned and flakey on the inside. The beef was tender and the vegetable chutney was flavorful. The twice cooked pork was crispy, spicy and oily all at the same time (as it should be). They're trying to market the "farm to table" thing, again appealing to upper middle class white people from the suburbs. I mean, fine. I think we figured everything tasted a little bit like if you tried to cook authentic Chinese but only had access to an American grocery store. Everything was cooked well, seasoned well, and tasted good, but the flavors just felt a little bit more... ok I'm going to be diplomatic here: the taste was slightly more "accessible" to a non-Chinese palate. Now, some may find that to be a problem. Personally I thought it was fine, but your mileage may vary.
So yeah. It was good. We'd go back. It isn't purely authentic, and honestly naming something "Chinese tapas" annoys me, but the food was good and that's what really...
Read moreExtremely disappointing dining experience! Reservation was pointless + food quality was terrible—a complete letdown!
We had a reservation for a table for 5 at 4:30 PM today. We arrived 10 minutes early, only to be told that our table had been given to another group who had a reservation for 5 PM but arrived early. The staff showed no apology and directly suggested we squeeze into a table for four. The restaurant was almost empty at the time—only two tables were occupied. We noticed a larger empty table nearby and asked if we could sit there, but were refused with the excuse that it was “already reserved.” Since when did our reservation become meaningless?
What made it even more frustrating was that the staff said, “You have a child, so you can just squeeze in.” Since when did bringing a child justify being treated unfairly? We explicitly booked a table for five—why should we be downgraded?
In the end, they reluctantly arranged two small two-person tables pushed together for us. The experience was already unpleasant, but that was only the beginning of the disappointment…
The food was equally disappointing:
Qiang Guo Fish 炝锅鱼: The fish scales weren’t properly cleaned—every bite felt gritty and unpleasant. Beijing Duck 北京烤鸭: Clearly pre-made, with a strong unpleasant duck smell—far from fresh. Braised Pork belly 红烧肉: Tough, dry, and seemed reheated multiple times—almost impossible to chew. Rice: Poor-quality rice—hard, coarse, and tasted like leftovers. The only tolerable dish: Only the cumin beef was somewhat acceptable, but still not worth coming for.
We will definitely not return, and strongly advise everyone to think twice before choosing this place—avoid...
Read moreDear Ted Chai,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry that your experience at Peter Chang King of Prussia didn’t meet your expectations. We value every guest’s feedback as it helps us continue improving.
We’d like to provide a bit of context from our side. Sundays are one of our busiest days, and our team members only had a short break for lunch around 4:45 PM. Your reservation was for 5:30 PM, and when your party arrived shortly before 5:00 PM, our staff were still preparing the dining area. We apologize sincerely for not being ready to seat you earlier — that was not our intention to make you feel unwelcome.
Regarding the ordering process, our servers often recommend dishes enthusiastically as part of our hospitality — many guests appreciate this. However, we understand that you preferred to confirm all additional items yourself. This was an unusual request for us, and we apologize for not handling it in the way you expected.
As for the billing and takeout mix-up, we’d like to clarify that in most U.S. restaurants, dine-in and takeout orders under the same table are typically combined into one check unless guests specifically ask to separate them. The takeout portion of your order was under $100, and the mix-up may have caused a service charge difference of less than $20. We’re sorry this caused frustration, and we’ll make sure our team is more attentive about confirming check preferences in the future.
We truly appreciate your feedback and hope you might consider giving us another chance to serve you...
