So my 12yo daughter decided to do a review for her school project, so I thought it's fair I post it here - a view of a pre-teen (no edits from the grown ups):
When me and my family went to Colorado we ate at many restaurants, some of them were good and some of them were not, even though their rating and reviews on google were spectacular , so I decided to give an honest review about the Swiss Chalet Restaurant.
On our last day we went to a restaurant called “Swiss Chalet '' from 5pm to 8pm. The Swiss Chalet is a fondue restaurant and is located in Vail Village, it looks really small from outside but is quite big on the inside. The whole aesthetic of the restaurant was really nice and cozy, one of my favorite parts of the interior design was that it had a lot like a fancy ski lodge because of all the wood. Now let's talk about the food, the most important part. First we ordered a cheese fondue. It came with several things to dip into it. We also ordered some apples because they didn't come with apples and it cost us like eight dollars. The fondue was really great I like how the taste of the cheese wasn't that strong as it usually is, it was also really nice that the pot wasn't huge cause I know that we wouldn't have finished it Next we ordered a milk chocolate fondue for dessert, I wish that we would have ordered the dark chocolate fondue because the milk chocolate just tasted like melted nutella which isn't bad it was just a little too sweet for me. Just like the cheese, the dessert fondue came with many things to dip into it. Overall the food was really satisfactory and the presentation of it was beautiful too. The services of the Swiss Chalet were amazing. Our waitress gave us many tips and suggestions on the food and went out of her way to get the “ special wine guy” for my parents. They also took our coats which I guess is normal but it was still really nice. They did also have some candy at the front which I especially liked. The service was amazing and so was the whole restaurant and I would totally come back there again. The food, service , and the design of the restaurant was marvelous. I would definitely...
Read moreFood 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 I arrived with reservation 7:30PM on Wednesday, March 12. As soon went I was hit by a strong cheese stench (I usually really like cheese) it was not pleasant. After awhile the smell was gone, probably because I got used to it. I got the Shirley temple to drink and it wasn’t very good. It kind of tasted like paper. Pretzel bread was pretty good. For appetizers we ordered the french onion soup as well as the salad. The soup was phenomenal, one of the best if not the best French Onion Soup I have ever tried. It was rich and had a good amount of bread, cheese and onions. I definitely recommend trying it. The salad wasn’t great, in my opinion it had too much goat cheese. The meat samples were good, just as expected. We of course got the meat fondue in broth, and Raclette (grill). The beef was not very flavorful when you boil it in the fondue. Fondue didn’t add much flavor too meat and did not have much flavor itself. Meat was slightly better on the grill but still could use more flavor. Vegetables were as good as vegetables can get. Potatoes were well seasoned. For dessert I got the dark chocolate fondue. It was not bad fruits were good.
Overall, this place was a good experience but the food definitely did not justify the price. I recommend getting the French Onion Soup as it was probably...
Read moreThe food was great, I would say I'm pretty familiar with fondu and that was the reason we chose to come here for our "last night in vail" dinner. "Their website suggests you make a reservation but many restaurants we visited that afternoon for drinks and small bites, suggested the same and when we took a leap of faith and just walked in and were able to be sat in each place. Eventually we noticed in all instances the restaurants were not full by any means and had quick guest turn around so tables opened up fast." So with that we were able to be sat here at swiss chalet, we were sat at the table across from the kitchen and the bathrooms. We were in a corner which whatever but we ordered a fondu and the gas from the pot made the entire table feel ill. Rushing through the meal so we can leave, we didn't get to enjoy the great food. We had planed to have fondu dessert but my husband was so sick he stopped eating mid dinner and needed to leave right away. As the rest of us left we noticed more then half the tables in the restaurant were open. We were placed in an area with minimal ventilation from our fondu pot, next to crashing dishes and staff conversations. Meanwhile beautiful areas of the restaurant were all open and available from the time we arrived to the time we left. Very...
